I want your help for my app. The following is my new requirement. I have written a rss reader app. Now my requirement is to launch the app when we browse any xml/rss link. I mean if I type the xml/rss link in the phone browser, then instead of showing the content, my app should be launched. can you please suggest me how to achieve it?

I am trying to launch my application when some one clicks any .xml file or .rss file from device browser or mail. But, my app is not launched when I type an xml link (for example : http://remotesite/xml/myXml.xml), instead, it is opened in the default browser as a text file.

For example if I have a new file type 'file.mjl' and I receive this file as an email, I want Android to associate this file type with my app and allow me to open / save it.
Is there a way to launch a viewer for common file types like TXT, DOC, XLS, PDF from within an app, like Gmail does. Maybe a Google Docs api to pass the file to GD and have it open in the browser?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use latest android sdk 1.6_r1 i launch the emulator(with the avd comes with sdcard ) then using adb push to push some videos and pictures onto sdcard because i cannot insert/eject sdcard on emulator so i reboot it after reboot, Gallery can find my videos and pictures just inserted now i want to push more pictures to sdcard so i reboot it after pushing files to sdcard but now Gallery cannot find the newer files after i check with adb i found the files i pushed in 2nd time all of them are of length 0 , so i think Gallery cannot read these files so my problem is Why the files i push to sdcard have zero size after i launch Gallery?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it in any way possible to launch an activity from the main function without having a UI? i.e. is there a way to create a sort of "wrapper" around another activity, i.e. by launching the main activity, it takes you to another activity automatically. If that is not possible, is there a way to remove the main activity from the stack so that clicking the back button does not take you to a blank UI?

I started with a (working) widget that, when clicked, opened the alarm clock. When I try and run the app in Eclipse through the Emulator the emulator gives me the following error:

The problem is the apps will launch twice or more when I apply the following steps: 1. launch the app A (1 time) 2. rotate the screen, (the app A will launch again, now the app A launch twice) 3. press return button (my expected result is that the app A will keep running, luckily, I can do that.) 4. launch the app A ( there will be one more app A running) So, in this case, there are 3 app A launching at the same time. But my expected result is just have one and only one app A launch.

I am successful in creating file using openFileOutput(). and can read the file using openFileInput().
I am able attach file from external storage sdcard while emailing the same using getExternalStorageDirectory as sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse("file://"+Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()+"/ zibra.txt"));
But while trying to attach file from the openOutputFile stored area using sendIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_STREAM, Uri.parse("file://"+ getFilesDir() + "/zibra.txt"));, resulting emptied file emailing.
My file is stored in "/data/data/com.example/files/zibra.txt".
what is going wrong in it?

We are suddenly unable to install our app on G1 developer phones with 1.6. Works perfectly on emulator. When installing the app we get:
Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE Please check logcat output for more details. Launch canceled!
And logcat:
PackageManage: Couldn't copy package file to temp file.
What does this mean? We checked that there is actually room enough on the phone.. We tried reverting the code to a revision that worked previously, but are getting the same error.

I have some reference data in a text file (~5MB) that I want to use with might android application.The file is of the format:

What I want to know is the most efficient way (less memory, fast, size etc.) to use this file within my application.
a.) Should I save the file as a raw resource and open and read the whole file whenever I need a certain line.
b.) Should I convert the file to XML and use XPath to query the file when ever I need to look up a value

c.) Should I just copy & paste the whole file as a static string array in the application and use that.

I have a large bitmap (say 3888x2592) in a file. Now, I want to resize that bitmap to 800x533 and save it to another file.I normally would scale the bitmap by calling Bitmap.createBitmap method but it needs a source bitmap as the first argument, which I can't provide because loading the original image into a Bitmap object would of course exceed the memory (see here, for example).Is there a way to read a large image file with 10MP or more and save it to a new image file, resized to a specific new width and height, without getting an OutOfMemory exception?I also tried BitmapFactory.decodeFile(file, options) and setting the Options.outHeight and Options.outWidth values manually to 800 and 533, but it doesn't work that way.
