what is intent action name(e.g. action name "android.media.action.IMAGE_CAPTURE" for launching camera appl) to launch the native map appl Is there intent available(documented or undocumented since above intent of capturing image is undocumented ) for launching maps appl?
I know one for launching maps for driving direction "this.startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("http://maps.google.com/maps? f=d&saddr=37.4,-121.9"+ "&daddr=Bellevue, WA&hl=en")));" but this goes to driving direction page of maps appl.
is there any way to launch maps appl which will open maps home page?
I am trying to launch an activity by specifying only its action(custom) defined in its intent filter from an activity in other application. The activity to be launched is the main activity of its application thus have android.intent.action.MAIN & android.intent.category.LAUNCHER set as action and category in its intent filter. Now according to android doc on Intent and Intent Filter, i do not need to specify DEFAULT category at all in this case. But doing the same i am i am unable to launch the activity.
LogCat says, Activity could not be found...
Am i misinterpreting the text or is there something else missing...?

I have a ListView where I want to show the QuickContact (like in the default Contacts android app when you click on the photo of a contact).
It works fine on my Nexus One 2.2 or the emulator with avd 2.2, but doesn't work on my Samsung Galaxy S 2.1update1 or emulator 2.1.
On 2.1, I'm getting the error:

I have a widget that displays the picture of some of my contacts and I would like to display the QuickContact card when the user taps on one of the pictures. I know I should be using the method ContactsContract.QuickContact.showQuickContact(), but it requires a View or a Rect as one of the input parameters. My problem is that Widgets only have RemoteViews, so I'm no sure what to pass as the View or Rect parameter.

So I was very surprised to find that supplying action+data where filter had only action, causes it to fail. In the code below, if you comment out line 47 so that data is *not* sent, only then it resolves correctly. To get it to work with the data (an id that is simply a String), what mime type should I specify in the intent filter?

1) Verizon admits the problems to some, denies it to others.
2) HTC admits problems, but blames Verizon. Verizon admits it, but blames HTC.
3) Both parties blame either hardware or software, depending on who you talk to.
4) Customers keep getting sent refurbs with same issues, while few get phones without issues.
5) Some customers get to switch phones, some aren't given that opportunity. Some get to switch for free, others are told they have to purchase refurbs for $289. Some have even been allowed to have the Incredible, most have not.
6) Some customers even get new contracts.
There is no consistency with Customer Service, either in store or on the phone. I spoke with a rep 3 weeks that fully admitted Verizon knows this phone is a pile, and offered a replacement if the june 29th update didn't fix the issues. Well it didn't fix them and the guy today denies that there are any well known problems, that mine is an isolated issue and most customers love the Eris. He is sending Eris refurb number 2, the 3rd in total. Told me I could do that or buy a Droid refurb for $289. Didn't care at all if I chose to leave Verizon. There is clearly a problem with the Eris, everybody involved knows it. If enough of us band together, perhaps we can get a consistent, equitable resolution from Verizon. Who is up for starting a list of names?
A friend of mine has the HTC Incredible and asked me, since I have the Eris and they are pretty similar, how to change the default action in Favorite people. When he set up his wife as a favorite, he accidentally chose to "send text" as the default action. He wants to change it to dial her cell number. I read the instructions for my Eris on how to do this.It tells me "To change the default communication method for a favorite contact, press and hold the contact, and then tap Change default action."When I do this, I do not get an option to change default action. Same for him.

I realize that selecting the name below the icon allows me to choose different actions, but I have very poor accuracy in trying to tap on just the name, so for contacts that I've added that I'm forced to choose a default action, it's very difficult for me to choose an alternate action.
The instruction manual says to "press and hold" the contact to change the default action, but that selects the entire widget to move or discard.
Does anyone know how to change the default action to prompt me each time I open a specific favorite contact?
I've seen this question for the Hero too, but with no answers. Posted on the HTC forum, but that's looking rather un-promising.

However, I later decided that I want it to launch the link in a browser (so I can read comments) instead of playing instantly after clicking the link.
I tried "Clear defaults" under settings>applications>manage applications but there is no settings for youtube. I tried to clear defaults for facebook and my browser, and tried reinstalling the facebook app but no luck.

I am hoping to make it show up as a translucent box that overlays on the screen, as opposed to completely occupying it like Activities usually do. One technique for doing this that I've heard is possible is to launch an Activity in an AlertDialog box. This would be perfect - it's the ideal size and has a lot of the mechanical properties I'm looking for, but I'm totally unable to find any more specifics of this technique. Is this possible? Before I rooted my phone I was having the issue that, despite checking the "Use by default for this action" box, my phone just plain refused to save what homescreen app to go to when I tap the "Home" button.I've tried clearing the cache. I've done factory resets and data wipes (although I did restore "all apps with data" with Titanium Backup). I've tried using the Home Switcher app. Nothing works.Right now my phone is running the current version of BB, ChevyNo1's 1.0Ghz 5 slot update.zip for OC, and am using AdamZ's Smoked glass theme. I want to use the "HelixLauncher" app as my default homescreen, but it's rather obnoxious having to constantly select it when I hit the home button (it'll save my default action for a few clicks, and then I'll have to set it again).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Wikitude API 1.1 as an AR viewer in my application. The problem with Wikitude, if I haven't launched the actual Wikitude application since the phone's bootup, I will get a NullPointerException everytime I start my own application.
So I figure if I can start my app first and them check if Wikitude is installed and or running. If it's not installed, go to market n download. If it's not running, then we should run it straight to background so that my app doesn't loose its focuscode...
The part I block commented is the intent to start Wikitude. But I always failed in restricting Wikitude to background. Any help?
