Android :: Kindle - How To Share EBooks On Android Devices?
Sep 14, 2010
First off, if you like reading and you never thought the EVO would be a good eReader, think again. I am going crazy over here with the Kindle app. My enthusiasm for reading has been re-Kindled, sorry, couldn't resist. But, that is not why I am posting this. I do remember some of the early adopters of the Kindle telling me how they can share eBooks with X amount of people that they chose. Is that the same for the Android app? And if so, how do I share books with my wife on her EVO? I did search and did some google searches and didn't come with anything on this.

I have to say that an user profile is a must have feature in an education. So no devices under android 4.2 aren't possible, because there must be an option to use "student profile" in a device to prevent any installation from an user.
1) If i have several devices (like 50 Android devices, Android 4.2 or later), what is the easiest way to manage them all at the same time?
- wifi?
- sync application for this?
- administration profile?
2) Do I have to make an account for each devices in GooglePlay or can I add them all under one account? How can i buy and install apps for each devices?
3) And does the Allshare offer sharing a screen with several devices?
How to manage several devices easiest wat - administration, installing/deleting apps, emptying devices (for example photos/videos...)...Or is it just better to choose iPad with a sync case? Im more interested in Android tablets because they offer much more for less money (example Galaxy Note serie). But I have no idea how to manage them all at the same time.

I've searched high and low to find some books to read on Android. I'd love to try out the technical O'Reilly ones - but they're ALL priced at more than $3. Can someone tell me of any good books that are available for free? I'm more than happy to buy - but just want to trial out a book first - I'm just afraid I'll find it really hard and awkward to read and end up not reading! So don't want to waste any money.

Does anyone know if there is an app that will let me read both my epub and pdf books? I know Calibre does conversions but even the Calibre website itself says that pdf is the least preferred format to convert from and I often get unreadable output. I know that I could use the native pdf reader but I was really wanting to be able to browse my books as a single collection through a single app rather than having them in multiple places. Google Editions couldn't come soon enough for me as I refuse to commit to any of the proprietary store ebook formats!

Has anyone tried the app Wordplayer from the market? It's a pretty decent e-book reader with compatible (and pretty decent) TTS capabilities. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could help me understand how to convert the ebooks and put them into a format that the TTS software could easily read from. As it is, the TTS starts reading my particular book at page 167 even though the .epub file appears complete if opened with any other software.

I have quite few books in .doc formats. All the ebook readers for android. I found don't really support .doc. The most of them don't support anything other than this new for me "epub" format. Now I can open the .docs, but would like to read them in a convenient way with the options and extras of an ebook reader software. I found something about online converter from .doc to epub, but would like to have my books accessible without pre-converting.

I downloaded and installed the Nook Android app from the Google play store. Unfortunately when I click on an ePub book, even one that I downloaded from the B&N Nook store, my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 displays an error message stating that it cannot find an app to run the file. If I run Nook first, I can open files by clicking an icon in its list of books. Unfortunately that *only* lists epub books that I downloaded from Barnes & Noble, not any of my other books. (I have ePub books I bought directly from Baen, for example -- no joy.)
I'm a complete novice with the Android O/S and have no prior experience with any smartphone or tablet whatsoever. I'm quite familiar with Windows (up through 7) and several Unix/Linux flavors. Also somewhat familiar with MacOSX (but not iOS).

Just went out and purchased 'The Army and Vietnam' through my Kindle for PC app. Then I logged onto my Kindle for Android app and the book won't appear. Why are some books on Amazon not compatible with its own app on Android!Anyone know how to get the book onto my N1 so that I can read it on the way to work?

I haven't seen any comments on the new Kindle app specifically regarding the Droid. I downloaded it a few days ago and it is great.
IMO the Kindle app is the best ebook reader - great selection of titles, easy to purchase, good prices and just a top notch app. It also automatically synchs with all of my other Kindle compatible devices.
But what really stands out in this app, over other ebook readers on the Droid is the fact that the developers found a way to lower the screen brightness - lower than I've seen with any other app - so you can read in a dark room (in bed) without staring at a bright screen. Plus, just in case that contrast isn't low enough, the developers added a sepia background, under "View Options." This makes the background an off-white.
I highly recommend this app as the best ebook reader for the Droid.

I want to use Kindle for my Feedbooks but have run into a problem. Before I actually bought anything from Amazon, I was able to use the Kindle app with my Feedbooks as the folder "kindle" was on my sd card and that's where I stored my Feedbooks. (I had to do a workaround and download the books to my pc and then transfer them to the kindle folder on the sd card because I couldn't download the files directly to my phone -- but it worked).
When I bought my first book from Amazon, however, it caused the Kindle app to force close every time I tried to open it. I called Amazon and they told me to delete the "kindle" folder on the sd card but they didn't tell me how to be able to use the Kindle app to read my feedbooks.

Amazon Kindle on my phone stopped getting book samples. I have three samples already but I can't get any more. The Amazon website says sample being sent to device, but when I go check the Kindle app, it never gets there. I deregistered, installed, etc. It won't sync new samples.

I have created a book that each page is a JPG picture (believe me, this is how the book is intended to be). This book is intended to be read in landscape.
This will be a kindle book, intended to be read on all kindle platorms (kindle 1, kindle 2, iphone, ipad, mac, windows and android). I don't have a kindle yet, but I have kindle app for iPhone and mac.
I have prepared the HTML structure to be used.
My question is: the images were created to be seen in landscape, and all images were saved in this format (I mean, the largest size is the horizontal).
If I create an HTML for kindle and all images are saved that way, the images will be scaled down, so they fit on the horizontal size of the device screen, right?
As this was the way this book was created for iPhone and iPad, I suppose that at least on Android users will have the option to turn the device sideways and the image will expand to fill the screen. But what about Kindle 1 and 2?
If I rotate the images 90 degrees CCW, kindle 1 and 2 will see the image at the maximum dimension possible but when the android user rotates the device, the image will rotate and the user will not be able to see it correctly.

I currently have a Hero (Sprint). I have some money and am trying to decide whether I want to buy an Evo off Craigslist (I'm not eligible for upgrade until October--I'll just sell my upgrade then for ~$200) and sell my Hero, or if I want to buy an iPad and sell my Kindle.
I was hoping to get some feedback here from people who own an iPad and could be a little more objective on how they use it than the Apple Fanboys out there.
Cost wise the Evo would be a little less -- I could probably buy the Evo for around $350-$400 and sell the Hero for around $100-$150, whereas the iPad would run me about $530 and I could sell my Kindle for $200. It's fairly negligible difference though.
I don't live in an area that has 4g or will in the foreseeable future. I do a lot of web-browsing on my Hero and spend around ~30 minutes a day reading RSS feeds (NewsRob). I read a lot of news sites and blogs throughout the day (outside of RSS feeds) on my laptop. I don't really use my Kindle as much as I thought I would -- I've read a few books, but I'm not an avid reader. I spend 80% of my reading time on news.
I very much miss my BB Tour's camera flash. I don't carry a regular camera and miss being able to take low light pictures (not looking for anything spectacular -- just the ability to take group pictures of friends and such).
I've played with the iPad and it is fun, and I could see browsing and reading news articles been very comfortable and more enjoyable, especially on the couch or something where I don't have a table. Some of the games are pretty fun (Plants vs Zombies!!!). I don't get eye strain from staring at an LCD screen.
The problem with the iPad is I'm just not sure when I'd use it over the Evo and my Kindle/Laptop. It's large enough that I can't carry it without a backpack, and then at that point I might as well carry my Laptop and/or Kindle with me. I'd also have to decide when to buy apps for the iPad vs the Hero.

I really really really want a kindle 2 reader, but it isn't my birthday until December, so I've downloaded the kindle for Android application to my Sony Ericsson X10 Experia, I've only downloaded one book so far, but I read it within a day, I noticed at the end of the book that it said "quick read". Are all the books supplied quick reads? Is this the same on the Kindle reader? If this is the case I won't be buying one, I want the full version of the books!

I am developing my am on mac (10.5.8), on eclipse and SDK 1.6 and a Vodafone HTC Magic Everything was working ok up to a few days ago. I can not see my device on adb devices. I also got a Sony Xperia and I can not see it on the list either. I upgraded the phone software (the HTC) to 1.6 a few days ago. Maybe that is what caused the change, but I could not be sure.

It seems amazon really makes things a little complicated trying to concert PDF files into ePub files and sync with the default kindle app. I cannot get kindle to recognize the books I converted for anything. I downloaded file explorer and I'm moving it into the kindle app and into the amazon android folder and no luck. Does converted PDFs to other formats know which folder it's supposed to go into?

Hi everyone! I got my Cliq this morning, and so far I LOVE it.I am an ebook junkie, and I was wondering if there is a way to install the books I now have on my pc (and my HP Ipaq) over to my Cliq. Worst case I read 'em on the HP, (like my mobipocket books, until they come out with a reader for android!) but I'd REALLY like to move them over.

Installed on Eris (2.1): Laputa, Aldiko, Tulip, Wordplayer
On laptop: Mobipocket, Caliber, MSWord
There's a vast amount of material in MSWord format that I wish to read on my Eris. I can save a file as .txt and put it on my SD card using Astro, etc., but Quickoffice and Tulip are the only readers able to read those files - and both are otherwise inadequate. I've never passed the Caliber IQ test. It seems to convert to epub, but none of those readers ever see the result.

There is an app called Shortcovers. in the android market. It will let you both read free books an Buy Current Best Sellers Books. The site is uses a Kobo ereader and they sell them at the Borders bookstores. I am just thrilled to finally find someplace that has an easy access to purchase current books for my little Droid.
