Android :: Java Unable To Find Class At Runtime From JAR I Created

Nov 19, 2010

I am working through a facebook-sdk example and trying to utilize the collection of classes as provided as a .JAR. I am relatively new to java and eclipse so I expect I am making some obvious blunder.

The issue is that everything seems to compile fine, but when I run the project (using the android emulator) dalvik vm is unable to find the first class I reference from this facebook sdk. ( com/facebook/android/Facebook.class )

As an aside, if I copy the source directly into my project as an additional package everything works fine.

Step 1: I exported the com_facebook_android project as a .JAR file. ( right click project, export, java / jar file ) I choose c:datajagjar as my location to save facebooksdk.jar.

Step 2: I hit properties on the project HelloGoogleMaps, Selected Java Build Path, Libraries, Add External JARS... I the directly selected the c:datajagjarfacebooksdk.jar file.

At this point my project seems to be building just fine ( no errors ).

Step 3: Debug the project and receive the error:

Android :: Runtime (703) Java.lang.Verify - Force Verification Of Library Files

Jan 11, 2010

I'm using the Android Development Toolkit (ADT) in Eclipse Galileo. I've created a project in which to develop some util classes, which I intend to use in several upcoming Android projects. However, when I come to use these util classes (deployed as a jar and included in the Android project as a user library), I get a java.lang.VerifyError during the startup of the emulator. Can I force the verification of these library files, or do I need to include them as part of the Android project, and not as an external jar?

Android :: Java Timers - Functions Called Not Completing

I have a TimerTask task calling a function onTimerComplete() in its run()

onTimerComplete() looks something like this:

CODE:...............

I make a Timer t and I schedule the TimerTask with t.schedule(task, 2000);

The problem is, when the timer is up and the task runs my onTimerComplete() but that function does not finish. It runs myFunc1() but never finishes it nor does it ever call myFunc2()

However, if I call onTimerComplete() directly, everything works.

Android :: Runtime Error Using Exported - Signed Apk But No Runtime Error Using Eclipse IDE

Mar 2, 2009

1) I am developing my app in Eclipse 3.4.1 with Android (ver 1.1_r1) plugin. My app compiles and executes without errors when using the Eclipse IDE.

However, when I export my app (unsigned) using Eclipse (via {select project} >right-click>Android tools>export unsigned application package), sign it, and try to run it on the Emulator, it throws a runtime error when I try to update my sqlite database, at which time the specific error created is: SQLite error#14, unable to open database. It is able to read from the database without problems. (I have also verified that the database is: open, is not readonly, is not locked by another thread, is not in the middle of a transaction.)

I have limited experience, but this seems more like a "system" problem given that the app works OK in Eclipse IDE but then fails as an exported/signed apk. Some googling of SQLite resources revealed a similar error on a non-Android platform which was fixed by: "Set your permissions correctly on /var/tmp, or whatever directory you are using to hold temporary files".

Does Android have temporary files, and if so how does it handle permissions on temporary files? Is there a way to check or set these permissions to see if this fixes my problem here?

2) Not sure if it is related, but after I have run the exported/signed app which causes the runtime error, if I reboot the Emulator, and try to run the program using the Eclipse IDE , the program fails with the same exact error. PLUS I also noticed the following error message while the program is installing/running: 03-01 22:22:29.282: ERROR/PackageManager(53): Package com.northwestradiology has mismatched uid: 0 on disk, 10019 in settings; read messages:

I can restore the Eclipse version of my program to be able to execute without runtime errors by utilizing the -wipe-data option for the emulator. But note that if I run my signed APK using an emulator created with the -wipe-data option, it still throws the runtime error listed above...

Android :: Android 1.5 - Asynctask DoInBackground Not Called / Method Called

Oct 26, 2010

I am running into an issue with the way my asynctasks are executed. Here's the problem code:

firstTask = new background().new FirstTask(context);
if(firstTask.execute().get().toString().equals("1"))
secondTask = new background().new SecondTask(context);

What I'm doing here is creating a new asynctask object, assigning it to firstTask and then executing it. I then want to fire off a separate asynctask when the first one is done and making sure it returns a success value (1 in this case). This works perfectly on Android 2.0 and up. However, I am testing with Android 1.5 and problems start popping up. The code above will run the first asynctask but doInBackground() is never called despite onPreExecute() being called. If I am to execute the first task without the get() method, doInBackground() is called and everything works as expected. Except now I do not have a way to determine if the first task completed successfully so that I can tell the second task to execute. Is it safe to assume that this is a bug with asynctask on Android 1.5? Especially since the API says that the get method has been implemented since API 3. Is there any way to fix this? Or another way to determine that the first task has finished?

Android :: Seemingly Useless Debugging Environment

Feb 17, 2010

I've just started debugging my first three line long android app and I can't seem to use the debug tool like I want to. Here's my code:

public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
int a = 1 / 0;
}

Now I expect the debugger to halt the thread and show me the line number of statement where the division by zero occurs. No, instead it shows some other method internal to the system for which I have no source. To make the matters worse, there is no exception message either. Prior to this app, I created one which would do something when a button was pressed. If any exception was raised, again no useful line number or exception message would be shown. As of right now, there is no way to debug my app. I'm using the latest SDK along with Eclipse ADT plugin and debugging on a real device (Nexus One).

Android :: Scripting Environment For Application - No Way Of Accomplishing

Oct 13, 2009

I'm trying to make my app scriptable. Specifically, I need to expose a few Java APIs and make callbacks settable via user-written scripts. Ideally I'd like to hide some of the complexity away in a DSL, but there's no way of accomplishing what I want neatly without some form of user scripting, so I may accept another alternative if it meets my requirements. Initially I looked into Scala as that is my main language of choice, but the Scala interpreter is just a wrapper around its compiler, which I'm told won't run well if at all on the phone.

I've also tried JRuby, which worked under Cupcake. There appears to be a regression in the form of a Dalvik bug that prevents it from working under Donut, however:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4242
I've also seen the Android Scripting Environment. Am I correct in assuming that this only supports running full interpreters and not embedding scripting languages into apps?

Android :: Get User Defined Environment Variables?

Sep 20, 2010

I would like to use self defined Environment variables in my source code.

I use System.getenv() to do this and the code line looks like this. Log.d("MyTest","== MyEnv " + System.getenv("AP") + " ANDROID_ASSETS:" + System.getenv("ANDROID_ASSETS"));

Before I execute my code I define my AP variable with export: export AP="12345" and the this is my output of set command

ANDROID_ASSETS=/system/app
ANDROID_BOOTLOGO=1
ANDROID_DATA=/data
ANDROID_PROPERTY_WORKSPACE=9,32768
ANDROID_ROOT=/system
AP=12345

Then I execute my code and I get this line from logcat

D/MyTest( 5363): == MyEnv null ANDROID_ASSETS:/system/app

The value for my defined Environment variable is null. Any suggestions on why it didn't work?
