I have a TextView in a RelativeLayout which contains an integer number. The number will range between 1 and 99 - can anyone tell me how to size the TextView so that its width is always the width of the string "99" even if it only contains "1"?
I need this because the positions of the components to the right of this TextView depend on its width, so all are position depending on how many digits the TextView contains.
I don't mind if this is done in XML or code - I just want to avoid having to set the width of a TextView in pixels!

How can I determine the number of visible characters that a TextView can display. For example if I change the orientation this number may change. If I change the resolution then also the number of visible characters changes.

In my project whenever I extend activity it works fine but as soon as I extend ListActivity it throws exception and shows file not found. Why is that? We already know that ListActivity itself extends the Activity class. The application must run fine.
Here's the java file:
package com.android.feedGrabber;
import java.net.URL;
import java.net.URLConnection;
import java.util.Collection;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.widget.TextView;
import com.sun.cnpi.rss.elements.Item;
import com.sun.cnpi.rss.elements.Rss;
import com.sun.cnpi.rss.parser.RssParser;
import com.sun.cnpi.rss.parser.RssParserFactory;
If I change "extends Activity" to "extends ListActivity" it gives the exception. I need to bring this change because I want to implement it on ListView instead of TextView.
Error it throws:
debug mode gets active and it highlights under Suspended(exception RunTimeException): ActivityThread.performLaunchActivity(ActivityThread$ActivityRecord, Intent) line: 2663.

I have a clickable TextView with a drawable as its background. I'm looking for the right way to implement a down-state drawable so the background changes when the user presses down. I have been able to almost perfectly replicate this behavior by listening for MotionEvents and changing the background when the user is pressing down.. The only thing that doesn't match up with system-wide down state behavior here is that if the user keeps holding down and moves their finger off the button, the state remains down until they release their finger from the screen... whereas in Maps overlays or Buttons or ListViews or anything else the state immediately goes back to off when the finger moves from the object.

The layout xml is as below. I have a RelativeLayout, which contains a TextView. The OnClick listener is set on RelativeLayout. The RelativeLayout has a selector background. What I want is, when user clicks on the RelativeLayout, the background of the RelativeLayout should change, and the color of the text of the TextView should change too. Even though I set color selector for the TextView, only the selector on RelativeLayout works. The color selector on TextView doesn't work. How can I implement change of both RelativeLayout background and text color of TextView when user clicks the layout?

a friend of mine has set me up for a blind date next week.I am freaking terrified.I'm way, way, way more scared than anything I've ever done in my life and I've done some pretty hairy things in my day.Anyway, are there any apps that can make my cell phone ring with an extremely important call at a predetermined time?I'm looking for an escape hatch.It would need to fully simulate a call so it would need to ring and set off my caller ID so if they saw my phone, they could see that someone was really calling.I could fake the conversation of course.

There are no options in the settings to format the sd card, just mounting and unmounting as well as total space etc. I am running ICS 4.0.4 and am not rooted ! Also, I was not sure if the settings were created by LG because they are different from the other versions I have seen.

I have a ListView that contains an Image on the left of two vertically-oriented TextViews using a RelativeLayout. When both TextViews have text it looks fine. Sometimes the TextView on the bottom won't have any text, and the problem is that the entire layout is several pixels above where it should be because it still reserves that space for text when there isn't any making the entire list have annoying blank gaps. I remember seeing an example of where someone made the layout not reserve the space, but I can't remember how he did it.

I have a problem with TextView in Android
I am making an application like Facebook. In m.facebook.com, when I open it I see they do one thing specailly.
(Alice) is writing on (BackStreetBoy1010938920) wall
Because the width of Mobile screen is small so the real message like tha
(Alice) is writing on (BackStreet
Boy10101009393) wall
I guess they use TextView for (BackStreetBoy1010938920) but I can't do like this.

I'm using a SAXParser to parse an XML document and its getting stuck on certain symbols like the 'trademark' symbol and I think even double- quotes". I really don't need these characters so it would be fine if the parser just skips over these. Instead it throws an exception and quits parsing the document. What can I do?

Currently I have an edittext field that when the user presses enter it does mostly what I want it to, validate an IP Address format and inform the user if it is wrong. How do I make it so when the user presses enter it checks it like it is supposed to be does not enter the newline character?
Here is my code for it.
public boolean onEditorAction(TextView arg0, int arg1, KeyEvent arg2) {
if(validateIPaddress(m_etIPAddress.getText().toString())){
ConfigData.m_IPAddress = m_etIPAddress.getText().toString();
} else { showAlertDialog("Invalid IP Address
Example: 255.255.255.255 0.0.0.0","Error: ");
m_etIPAddress.setText(ConfigData.m_IPAddress);
m_etIPAddress.requestFocus();
} return false;
}
Another problem I have is that in the false condition of the validation, that it will not bring up the soft keyboard to allow the user to reedit that text field. If the user clicks on another edit text the window gives it focus, and allows the user to edit the second text field while still maintaining the 'green outline' around the original edittext.
The EditText still creates a newline. I tried calling that when I create the EditText and it shows the dialog then inserts a newline character at the beginning which is weird because the
m_etIPAddress.setText(ConfigData.m_IPAddress);
Should automatically overwrite anything in that field to the static IP saved within ConfigData. (my settings class) and I think the focus might work, the problem is that after requestFocus, that EditText shows it has focus but is unresponsive. I can click on other EditText's and modify them, while it still shows the focus outline on the IP EditText. If I click on the IP EditText it doesn't actually do anything. Its kind of strange.

I was able to type characters of the language using a font in assets folder.But The problem is As soon as I type a character and a Half word character the later replaces the first character. And the first character disappears as soon as the half word character is typed.I wish that respective glyph is displayed for respective character,half word combination.I looked at update classes they are fine. Couldn't find where the displacing thing is happening.
