Android :: How To Test For The Appearance Of A Toast Message
Mar 8, 2010
Would anyone know how to test for the appearance of a Toast message on an Activity? I'm using code similar to what the OP posted on this question for testing my program flow from one activity to the next. I'd also like to be able to test for toast messages on particular activities.

My application launches a thread to query the web for some data. I want to display a Toast message when nothing is found, but my application always crashes. I've tried using the application Context from within the thread, like so: Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "testttt", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); I've also tried creating a Runnable with the Toast call and calling runOnUiThread(runnable) from the Thread (the Toast call in this runnable uses the Activity as the first parameter). Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

I would like to have a Toast Message appear while my app is downloading information but even if I put it before my code it doesn't appear until after the download has completed. Putting my code in a separate thread causes many headaches but putting toast in a separate thread doesn't work either. Is there anyway I can have this Toast message come up before this or am I just going to have to work through the headaches?

I looked for any information about onTap event processing for itemized overlays in this group. There is a lot of useful information but I could not find the answer to one question.
The tutorial by Mark Murphy on itemized overlays, http://androidguys.com/?p=1413
describes how to generate a Toast message whenever an onTap event occurs. In his case, the custom itemized overlay activity is included in the main activity. In my case, it is not. My custom itemized overlay activity is included in the application package as a public activity.
This means that the line Toast.makeText(NooYawk.this, items.get(i).getSnippet(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); will not work "as is".
I have had trouble in correctly identifying the context for the Toast. Attempts to use the main class' (the one calling the custom itemized overlay class) context have not worked. I would appreciate it if anyone could suggest how I could resolve this issue. Incorporating the custom itemized overlay class in the main class is not a desirable option.
Alternatively, I would appreciate any suggestions for generating a display of the title and/or snippet information for markers on a map.
The onTap event works fine (Log.i statements in the onTap method display the correct information for each marker tapped)

I am currently working on my first app which grabs a ZIP from the internet and the extracts it to a certain location. Everything works great but I can not figure out how to show a Toast message when the extraction operation is done.
The code I am using for unzipping is:
Code:
package mmarin.test.download;
import android.util.Log;
import java.io.File;
[Code]....
As I said above, only issue is displaying a message that everything is done.

I'm writing unit tests for a ListActivity in Android that uses a handler to update a ListAdapter. While my activity works in the Android emulator, running the same code in a unit test doesn't update my adapter: calls to sendEmptyMessage do not call handleMessage in my activity's Handler. How do I get my ActivityUnitTestCase to sync with the MessageQueue thread and call my Handler?

I'm writing an Android JUnit test and want to copy/reset a test fixture file (it's an SQLite database file.) If I were within the main application, I know I could just place the file in the assets directory and use getResources().getAssets().open(sourceFile).However, this API appears to be unavailable from the ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2 class.Is there an easy way to copy a file over from the testing PC, or should I just keep a fresh copy of a test fixture on the device and copy it over a temporary file?

I am using ActivityInstrumentationTestCase2 to do some test for an activity. I get a button in the setUp() method like this: protected void setUp() throws Exception {super.setUp(); act = getActivity(); btn = Button)act.find ViewById ( R.id.bike_button ); // this button has been defined in layout} Then I use this button to perform a click in a test method like this: public void testBikeButton(){ //click the bike button btn.performClick();}

I have never used JUnit before, and now I'm trying to set it up on an Android project.My project under test is fairly complex, including some JNI, but my test project, at the moment, is completely trivial. I have found many examples (that look totally different) online of how to make a test project, but it seems that no matter which one I follow, I get the same results.Here's my JUnit project code:package com.mycompany.myproject.test;
import android.test.AndroidTestCase;public class SimpleTestCaseExample extends Android TestCase {public void test_testOne() {fail("Just Always Fail");When I run, I see the following in Logcat:
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: numtests=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: test=test_testOne
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS_CODE: 0
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: id=InstrumentationTestRunner
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: current=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: class=com.mycompany.myproject.test.SimpleTestCaseExample
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: stream=
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: numtests=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: test=testAndroidTestCaseSetupProperly
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS_CODE: 1
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: id=InstrumentationTestRunner
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: current=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: class=com.mycompany.myproject.test.SimpleTestCaseExample
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: stream=.
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: numtests=2
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS: test=testAndroidTestCaseSetupProperly
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_STATUS_CODE: 0
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_RESULT: stream=
stdout Test results for InstrumentationTestRunner=..
stdout Time: 0.07
stdout OK (2 tests)
stdout INSTRUMENTATION_CODE: -1
But, I get the following in the Console:Launching instrumentation android.test. Instrumentation TestRunner on device emulator-5554 Collecting test information Test run failed: No test results I have tried a variety of different things, messing with the basic TestCase class, or the TestSuite class, or a variety of other options. I tried to just go for the most trivial example because I'm really still trying to learn how this works.Whatever I try, I see this error.

I'm working on a school project and I'm researching testing possibilities for Android applications. On this page: http: // developer . android . com/ resources / tutorials /testing /hello android. Google writes about a unit test. Is this really a unit test? A Unit test will not integrate all classes and will not test in his context. So my opinion is it is not a Unit Test but an Integration Test.

I just got a new Verizon Android by LG and it came with no manual. I mean there was something, but it was so basic, that it was practically useless. I kind of learned how to move around things and how to make it work, so now I have some concept how to work with my phone. However, there are some things I cannot figure out.
Is there a manual how to navigate and customize the appearance of the OS?
For now I have two simple questions:
1. There is a system bar with some icons on the top of the home screen. On the left there are three icons:
(a) one red with a white person in it,
(b) one with a sheet of bent paper going into something, and
(c) one I don't get and which came up right now - red phone handle and a white arrow bouncing of it. And the last one is puzzling me, because it just came up.
Is there a manual that explains all that?
Another thing - I am getting beeps every once a while, telling me that something is happening. I look - sometimes it's a missed call, sometimes a notification on Facebook, sometimes a new message, and sometimes it is something I have no clue where to find it. I really need a manual. Badly! Plus the phone goes black and locks after one second all the time, even when I am still not done with things, and makes me have to unlock it too often. Is there any complete and comprehensive manual that really teaches me how to use and customize the system?

I want to edit the appearance of a radio group, or the radio buttons within the group.As standard, you get a radio button, with what I assume is a TextView alongside it containing the text to be displayed. I want to somehow override this to be a WebView.

I have a project (that compiles and runs in the emulator.) I have a test project that tests part of this project. This test project also compiles with no problems, but when I try to run (test) it in the emulator, I get a NoClassDefFoundError exception on one of the classes my test class tests (I hope that made sense!) when it starts to run in the emulator. This is coming out of the adb log. I looked in the bin directory (of the test project) for the missing class, but could not find it... Should it be there? I found no reference (apk, etc) of the project I am trying to test either in the test projects bin directory. How does the test project get the classes it needs to test against (in the classpath, I assume.) How do the tested classes get moved to the emulator? I did try running the app before testing, so I know it is installed and runs correctly. BTW, I am using netbeans with the nbandroid plugin.

I've noticed that changing the background color of an android widget (f.ex. Button or TextView) by program:
myButton.setBackgroundColor(Color.BLUE);
makes it to loose its 3D shape, border, and shadows effects, and then appears like a ugly flat square. What am I missing?
Sorry for the very naive question but I couldn't get it right although tried for a time.

When I first picked up this phone, the 2nd to last (6th) screen had default "Shortcuts" screen with Google search, Wiki etc in large beautiful icons that took up 1/4 the screen each.
I accidentally 'cleared' this home screen, yet when I attempt to put back icons for shortcuts, they're all tiny computer icons. Is there a way I can revert this screen back to original large shortcut icons?

I'm loving my X...I upgraded to an Incredible last month, found out about the X and returned the Incredible for this beast.
The only aspect that I do not love about this phone is the phone screen. I'm not a big fan of the whole interface/appearance of the phone screen with dialpad. Anybody else think this?
And is there an app or skin or something that can change the appearance of this? The Incredible really has the best looking and functioning phone screen/setup.
