Android :: How To Make "pie Chart" With Touchable Wedges?
Sep 1, 2010
I have need to make a sort of "Pie Chart"-style circular display. the wedges of the chart have to be touchable, and the whole circle has to be able to spin 360deg. I'm still an android noob, but I'm guessing that I can't do this with a Layout.. right? preferably, the wedges would be image assets that I create in Photoshop, and not programmaticaly created does anyone have any Idea where to start with this?

When we touch a Button in android, the button highlighted(background turns yellow). This visual change is very friendly to users. I want the same effect on a View object(for example a TextView or ImageView) but I can't figure it out.

I developed an activity that extends the ListActivity. It has a ListView that binds to a DB. Thing is that I can click on the items of the view only with the trackball. When I try touching the items or the view I can't, is not responsive. Below the view I have a button that works just fine in touch screen mode. I already tried removing the button (I thought that was it) but no. Code...

I am creating a small calendar control that will be part of an application that runs on a larger-than-phone-sized screen. The calendar will simply display the current month and allow users to touch-select a day with an iPhone keyboard style popup bubble indicating which day is chosen.
The problem is that in order to do it with buttons would require 42 tiny buttons, which would probably be a resource hogging solution. Although a keyboard would give me the iPhone-keyboard-bubble-like behavior, i dont think that we can place a keyboard in a static location within a Layout, using it like a View.
So I am wondering what is the best way to go about implementing this. Is my "42 buttons is too many" assumption correct? Is my keyboard assumption correct? Do I have to use a SurfaceView (or something) and draw everything myself? Is there some other grid-like control that can make this simpler?

I want to draw a chart and I'm using a scrollview to do so. my scrollview holds the chart view. What I've observed is that the scrollview's onDraw calls the onDraw of my chart view. Now I draw the entire chart on the canvas when the onDraw of chart view is called. Also scrollview's onDraw is called everytime I scroll the view. So I end up drawing the entire chart multiple times. Is there any better way to achieve what this

I'm seeing that it would be good to have some sort of charting scheme (or possibly just a table-based design strategy) when designing Android apps.Have any such schemes been proposed?

I hope what I'm asking hasn't been asked, but if so, I'd gladly take a link in the right direction. Is there a comparison chart/ T-chart that compares the various roms out there?Something that compares build (2.01 vs 2.1), features (wireless tether, live wallpapers, etc), speed results, strength/weakness narrative etc. similar to what you'd find on a consumer guide, perhaps in a scope and sequence type of alignment that alludes to release dates?I've heard "go with the rom that best suits your need", but a diagram like the one suggested might help the community.Perhaps a knowledgeable veteran would be interested in such a project? If I'm way off, just tell me to go pound sand.

Just switched from a Motorola Droid to an Incredible after having the Droid for 8 days. Love the Inc but miss the stock weather that the Droid had, specifically the line chart that had % chance of Precip and Temp forecast vs Time. Any way I can get this on my Inc? Thanks.

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Seems like a nice phone. Every phone I've had in the past (Nokia, Sony, etc...) has always allowed me to hide my number so that the call display on the receiver's phone shows my call as 'private'. This is useful for when you don't want certain people to have your number when you call. Is there a way to do this on the Galaxy S? I couldn't seem to find any setting how.

In the Google Maps app, there's a unique EditText that I'd like to reproduce. If you click "menu" then go to "directions", the "start point" field should begin with "My Location" as the text. The interesting part of this field is its behavior - you cannot edit "My Location" without completely deleting it first. I have a few places where such behavior would be useful, but I can never quite fully reproduce this. There are three challenges involved with this behavior: No matter what the user does, they cannot partially edit the field; it is always fully selected. The keyboard directional keys, rather than moving around the EditText field, change focus. When the user does choose to change the text, the behavior of #1 and #2 disappear and the field acts like a normal EditText.

For folks familiar with the Android Rap Song you may remember the line: A Dollar For A Ringtone? Real Funny... I can make my own now (ringdroid), GIMME BACK MY MONEY A lot of people will be feeling that way with Ringdroid now appearing on the Android Market.
