Android :: How To Make Executable Version Of Software In Droid
May 16, 2010
I am almost done with my project in android, now I want to make the executable version of the application.
I need to demonstrate it in .exe form as soft app as on emulator, not by built and debug process from eclipse.

Is it possible to have an AndroidManifest.xml and or resource files in a Jar file and import that into a executable Android project?
My goal is to provide styles, resources, and services from a jar library that can be accessed from a main android project for my common tools.

I'm finishing to write my game and i'm thinking to participate to the ADC2. Since I also want to start selling the game to the android market asap, I want to know if is it possible to make a free demo version of the game to be used for the contest and a full paid version that is available to users that want to buy it before the contest has finished. Is it a violation of TOS or it can be done at my own risk (because the demo valued by judges is not the complete version?

I want to make a trial version, where the application functionality works a limited amount of times. The consumer will then be given the option to buy the complete version on Android market. How can I implement that?
I could write some info to the sdcard after each start of the app and then read that info on the next start or reinstallation of the app. But would that work? This thread
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/threa... :
says that there's no 100% sure way to keep someone from reusing a trial version. That seems strange. It is possible to make a functionable trial version in J2ME with the RecordStore class. Why shouldn't this be possible in Android?

I've compiled a binary using the Android NDK toolchain, and am attempting to deploy it to a device. An application which has been built with the NDK using JNI will then execute this binary via native code. I'm hoping to avoid rooting the device.
The binary will be used by multiple applications, so I'd like to store it in a shared location, rather than once per application.
I can't find an appropriate location to deploy this binary to - these are the places I've tried:
/mnt/sdcard - using getExternalStoragePublicDirectory() from the SDK, however the SD card is mounted as noexec, meaning I can't run it.
/system/bin - read-only file system, so can't copy. I can push the file using adb push if I remount /system on the emulator using:
[HIGH] mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtd3 /system[/HIGH]
However I'd like to avoid this, as the device would need to be rooted.
/data/local - using adb push, I can push the binary to this location. However, I can't seem to find a way to do this in code (using the Android SDK). The internal storage mechanism points to /data/data/package.
I've compiled native code which calls this executable, using arm-linux-androideabi-g++ shipped with the NDK toolchain. This works with the binary in /system/bin and /data/local.
In summary, I'm looking for a location in the Android file system to which I can copy a file from the project /assets folder, which world-executable permissions are possible.

What I did was create two .java files. One that can compile and run on a 1.5 phone (SDK3) and then one that works on 2.0(SDK5) So for this example i'll call the 1.5 file ExampleOld and the new one Example. I was wondering if i just made activity like this if it would work sort of like a "portal" and pick the activity to load depending on the SDK so there is no crash or compile errors. Are there any changes I should make to my code? Maybe anyone out there that's had to do this before.

I am trying to run a native executable from inside an android java application. The native executable exists in my assets. At start of activity, I copy it from assets to my application cache Dir. then I use Process Builder to run it.I tried to run "chmod 777" on the file and on cache directory containing it and I ensured permissions are granted using adb shell. but I still get this permission exception.

I want a chmreader executable file to be used in android application. Now whenever I tried to execute it from adb shell, it gives error "permission denied". Now, whenever I use "su" it just executes the file, but doesn't do anything. And whenever I give the argument as the path of the file to be read, "# su /sdcard/extract_chmLib /sdcard/docs/HArdcore.chm" it shows "su: exec failed for /sdcard/docs/HArdcore.chm Error:Permission denied" where "/sdcard/extract_chmLib" is the executable file and "/sdcard/docs/HArdcore.chm" is the chm file to be read.

I used to be a C/C++ programmer before getting in to android. I am not sure how people maintain 2 versions of a program without using #ifdef preprocessor macros. Right now I am changing the package name in eclipse and changing the code manually, but this seems really inefficient. Can anybody suggest a good way of having 2 or more projects that share most of the code?

I'm planning on getting LockBot when I get my EVO and I was wondering, what's the difference between the free version and paid version. I basically want the Moto Droid lock screen on my EVO for the slide to toggle sound on/off feature due to the lack of an external switch on the EVO. Would I be best to get the paid version or will the free version do that?

I am having my Galaxy S delivered tomorrow and was wondering what protection people are using. I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector. What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.
