Android :: How To Implement Scrollbar With Thumb For Fast Scrolling?
Jun 2, 2010
I need to implement a screen having around 1000 thumbnails. This screen should support gesture based scrolling as well as fast scrolling using a scrollbar with thumb. So if user want to move from page 1 to page 100 he can just drag the thumb and reach there. But there is no such control in Android. There is seek bar but its look and feel is not similar to what I want. I also want to flick and swipe functionality which can be inherited using horizontalscrollbar. So i want to add functionality of horizontal scroolbar as well as of seekbar in my application.

I want to hide a listview's scrollbar when the listview isn't scrolling and show it when scrolling. I know this can be done very easy by setting "android:fadeScrollbars" as an application style if the API is 5 or newer. But I want the feature to be available on all android devices. So I've implemented the "setOnScrollListener" method, and switched the scrollbar visibility using the setVerticalScrollBarEnabled method. This works great on G2. The problem is that on Motorola Milestone the SCROLL_STATE_IDLE event isn't received when the scrolling stops, and so the scrollbar remains visible.

However I have got one major problem which is that since getting it I have developed a really painful wrist (no schoolboy humour please). I hold the phone in my right hand and tend to use my right thumb for scrolling, selecting on the screen and pushing the buttons at the bottom. I have developed a persistent stabbing pain over the nobly bit on the right side of my wrist which gets worse after I have been using the phone for a while. Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me getting old?

I'm having a little problem with a ListView scrollbar. The scrollbar appears at the side as expected, but how do I get the scrollbar to expand and become controllable in the same way it behaves in the Contact list? Ideally I'd like all the Contacts list functionality for my app - i.e. to allow me to control the scrollbar directly with a finger and to show the first letter of the list elements you're currently scrolled to.

What is the best way to implement scrolling text (with behavior similar to that of HTML tag 'marquee')??
I've been trying to do this using TextViews + Animations but I'm having troubles primarily because of sizing issues. If my text is long enough that it exceeds the screen width, it won't be drawn completely (it's size will be chopped at screen width). Thus, when I animate it from right to left, only a part of the text will be displayed. This happens if I allow a maximum of 1 line in my TextView, because otherwise it makes the TextView have multiple lines. If I make it horizontally scrollable, the same 'chopped-off' behavior is seen.
I think this happens because the TextView's parent imposes some restrictions on its size. Is there a way to bypass these restrictions so that the TextView is 'drawn' even if parts of it will be off- screen?
If that's not possible, what's an alternative way of implementing this behavior?

I am new to android, and ended up (have to) ask a question here. Let's make it simple, I simply want to make my own TextView-like (MyView extends View), This is my code:
public class MyView extends View { private Paint mPaint;
private String mText; private Bitmap mBitmap1; private Bitmap mBitmap2;
public MyView(Context context) { super(context); initView(); }
public MyView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs);
initView(); } private final void initView() { mPaint = new Paint(); }
public void setText(String text) { mText = text; }
@Override protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) {
int measuredWidth = measureWidth(widthMeasureSpec);
if (mBitmap1 == null) initBitmap1(measuredWidth);
int measuredHeight = measureHeight(heightMeasureSpec);
setMeasuredDimension(measuredWidth, measuredHeight);
}
private void initBitmap1(int measuredWidth) {
mBitmap1 = Bitmap.createBitmap(measuredWidth, Fonts.getHeight(), Bitmap.Config.ARGB_4444);
Canvas canvas = new Canvas(mBitmap1 ); canvas.drawText(mText, 0, 0, mPaint);
} private void initBitmap2() {
mBitmap2 = Bitmap.createBitmap(30, Fonts.getHeight(), Bitmap.Config.ARGB_4444);
Canvas canvas = new Canvas(mBitmap2); canvas.drawText(mText, 0, 0, mPaint);
} private int measureWidth(int widthMeasureSpec) {
int measuredWidth = 0; int specWidthMode = MeasureSpec.getMode(widthMeasureSpec);
int specWidthSize = MeasureSpec.getSize(widthMeasureSpec);
if (specWidthMode == MeasureSpec.EXACTLY) { measuredWidth = specWidthSize;
} else { measuredWidth = getWidth(); if (specWidthMode == MeasureSpec.AT_MOST) {
measuredWidth = Math.min(measuredWidth, specWidthSize);
} } return measuredWidth; }
private int measureHeight(int heightMeasureSpec) {
int measuredHeight = 0; int specHeightMode = MeasureSpec.getMode(heightMeasureSpec);
int specHeightSize = MeasureSpec.getSize(heightMeasureSpec);
if (specHeightMode == MeasureSpec.EXACTLY) { measuredHeight = specHeightSize;
} else { measuredHeight = 80; if (specHeightMode == MeasureSpec.AT_MOST) {
measuredHeight = Math.min(measuredHeight, specHeightSize);
} } return measuredHeight;
} @Override protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) {
super.onDraw(canvas); canvas.drawBitmap(mBitmap1, getLeft(), 0, mPaint);
initBitmap2(); canvas.drawBitmap(mBitmap2, getLeft(), 30, mPaint);
} }
In my code, I populate some numbers of MyView (let's say 20) in a ListActivity. My question is why mBitmap1's order changes randomly while i scroll (up-down) fastly (if I scroll slowly, this problem not occur)? mBitmap2 stays where those should be.

Ever since I upgraded to 2.2 with Flash 10.1 I have been unable to jump ahead in flash videos on the web. Whenever I click the scrollbar for the video, it just pauses the playback. Even when I fullscreen it and play it without anything else on the screen, I have the same problem. It seems to treat the entire flash player as one object rather than different objects within the player. Anyone else having issues fast forwarding flash video? It worked no problem with Flash-lite on 2.1.

I have set negative paddings on my custom seekbar so that the round thumb image can go outside the bar, but the thumb isn't rendered out there, is there anyway to force the thumb to be drawn outside those bounds Sorry guys, I'm new to Android development, and have been tasked with fixing an existing application. The problem is that we have a custom rounded looking track bar, which consists of two rounded 'end cap' images and a 1 px background that is tiled to create the seekbar. As far as I can tell there was never one image that could be set as the background of a normal SeekBar, which is why a custom one was created. The thumb is a circle and needs to 'fit' into the end caps - the three pieces of the bar are in a relative layout. Right now I'm kind of unclear as to how the 1 px background png gets stretched as the seekbar bg, otherwise I would try to tack on the two endcaps onto that drawable some how?

I am trying to create a gradient drawable to depict a ratio of something. As a general example, lets say you were looking at a listview containing a fleet of cars. The background could be a fuel gauge - I don't want a smooth, wide transition. I want a very tight transition, and I want to be able to set where that transition takes place.
Here's what I'm staring with, but I'm not getting very far.

The problem appears in Android 2.2. It seems cool because it can auto-hide.But I don't like it quite much because the bar is an indicator for "Whether there is more content not present on the widget". Hiding it maybe neat, but may get the users wrong sometimes. In ListView, I find it a fatal bug at all. When there is more content to show, no scrollbar present, AND when wipe the screen down-wards, no scroolbar appears. Only when use the traceball or Dpad to move focus, there appears the scrollbar. BUT THERE IS WORSE: when you wipe down-wards to move the scrollbar down, nothing happens! The touch feature is almost disabled here.

Can anyone help with album covers? I have one album that shows up with its cover in the default music player. I assume that is because it is included in one of the tags information, I added covers to other albums tag info using windows media player and the advanced tagging option (method found in other forum for other lg phone) but the covers still don't show up when I put the albums back on my phone. Does anyone know which tag the music player is reading? There is also a folder (albumthumbs) that showed up on my sd card once I copied the album thats artwork does work to my phone, and in it is a file without an extension (this is obviously the cover for the one working album). Can I add jpgs to that folder or something and how does the album thumb naming convention work?

I need to create a custom scrollbar for a listview.
I can do this task by setting drawable for scrolllbar.But that does not fulfill my requirement.
There are arrows in scrollbar drawable image and when clicked on them,particular list item should get selected.
So I need to use custom scrollbar for this requirement.
