Android :: How To Correctly Handle Click Events On Widget?
May 9, 2010
There is a task to make smt like todo list on widget (with dinamic number of elements), how to organize this list for click support on this elements. I only found how add click event on one widget layout element (with setOnClickPendingIntent), and how send text to widget element TextView. But it's unclear how handle click events for sub-elemets, or how get click coordinates(or item) where was click event. I saw widget "Agenda widget" - and it work fine with clicking on different calendar rows.

Does anybody know if there is any event to handle incoming calls?? I'm developing an app that streams audio from the microphone and I would like to have a listener that stops the recording, etc when there is an incoming call...and that restarts the process when the telephone call is over.

I'm currently rendering HTML input in a TextView like so:
CODE:......................................
The HTML being displayed is provided to me via an external resource, so I cannot change things around as I will, but I can, of course, do some regex tampering with the HTML, to change the href value, say, to something else.
What I want is to be able to handle a link click directly from within the app, rather than having the link open a browser window. Is this achievable at all? I'm guessing it would be possible to set the protocol of the href-value to something like "myApp://", and then register something that would let my app handle that protocol. If this is indeed the best way, I'd like to know how that is done, but I'm hoping there's an easier way to just say, "when a link is clicked in this textview, I want to raise an event that receives the href value of the link as an input parameter"

I can't figure this out. Some apps have a EditText (textbox) which, when you touch it and it brings up the on-screen keyboard, the keyboard has a "Search" button instead of an enter key.I want to implement this. How can I implement that Search button and detect press of the Search button?

I am trying to pass the same touch events on one widget to the other so they both scroll at the same time and in same way. I have two Gallery widgets one above and one below. If the above one is scrolled then I want to pass the same touch event to the bottom widget so it also scrolls the same way.I have tried to use dispatchtouchevent events but I am facing an issue where in if the bottom gallery widget has some edit text then the edit text gets the key event and both widgets doesnt scroll anymore.I have tried to set focussable and editable to false on edittext even then it gets the touch events.I think I am going in the right direction. However I need some assistance in doing the right way.

I created a custom dialog that extends Dialog. One button on that the dialog is an "OK" button which the user is expected to press when finished entering information in other fields. I cannot get any listeners set to that button to fire.

I have a list activity that creates a header row above the data rows from the adapter. I want to receive click events when the user selects the header or a data row (but my data rows have check boxes in them, so this part is tricky). When I use the touch screen, I get this expected behavior:
1. Tapping on any row causes a click event and a dialog appears.
2. Long-pressing on a data row causes a context menu to appear.
3. Long-pressing on the header row does *not* show the context menu.
However, when I use the arrow keys (emulator) or trackball (G1), I get this unexpected behavior:
1. Selecting any row fails to cause any click events, even though the row's appearance changes like it's being clicked.
2. Long-pressing on the header row *does* show the context menu, which I don't want.
3. Occasionally, it doesn't focus the correct row when I move up or down (e.g. it skips from the header to the last data row).

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but how do you handle orientation changes for a Cupcake desktop widget?When it is initially created, the onUpdate method of my AppWidgetProvider calls views.setOnClickPendingIntent(buttonID, pendingIntent) to register for my button events, but when the orientation changes, new buttons are created and I don't have an opportunity to re-register the "onClick" listeners. What is the proper way to do this?

I had screen mode widget installed and it was not working correctly, so I uninstalled and tried to reinstall. I went to market and it displays it as installed but it does not give me an option to open or uninstall which is the other button. The two options show up on the bottom but they are light grey and do not function.

Does anybody else have this problem? My Calendar widget that comes with Android (Calendar) has been synched with my google calendar, but it only shows events for tomorrow, and even sends notifications for those events a full day early.
Example:
Today is Feb 11th. I have an event today (we'll call it A) and an event tomorrow (we'll call it B)
The calendar widget has a blue bar across the top that says "Thu 11" This is correct! Below that it has a white field that says
"Feb 12
Event B"
If I click on the widget it takes me to today's page in the calendar application, the 11th which shows me today's event.
How can I get my calendar widget on the front page to show me what is happening TODAY and give me notifications for it TODAY?

I am working my way through oh my first widget (so this is 1.5, obviously) and I'm stuck. I've poked around a problem involving the launch of an Activity when clicking on a widget. Scenario: User drags widget on home screen without prior launch of the Activity in question. I am following this post: http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2009/04/introducing-home-scree... Instead of launching the browser through ACTION_VIEW, I am trying to launch an Activity by class. I've toyed around with different Intent settings, but no luck.

I'm having trouble starting a Service to update an AppWidget that I'm creating as an exercise. I'm trying to get the latitude and longitude of spoofed location data from DDMS to display in the widget. The widget uses a service to update the TextView, which may be slightly overkill, but I wanted to follow the template that seems to be common in AppWidgets that do more work (like the Forecast widget or the Wiktionary widget).
Right now, I'm not getting any error messages or strange behavior; nothing at all happens when the button is pressed. I'm a bit mystified as to what might be wrong. Could anyone out there point me in the right direction?
Additionally, if my logic for location is faulty, I'd love recommendations on that too. I've looked at several blogs, the Google examples, and the documentation, but I feel a little fuzzy on how it works.
Here is the current state of the widget:

I'm trying to setFlags, but cannot read it at onHandleIntent() method code...
At this little piece of code I have two PendingIntent linked with setOnClickPendingIntent, can I distinguish this intent for different actions and processing?

I have a very simple widget application which consists of a linear layout with a background and an image button. In the AppWidgetProvider on Update method, I register the click of the button to broadcast an intent. When the widget first loads, everything runs fine and the click is captured. The problem occurs when the screen is rotated, and the click is never captured again even if the screen is rotated back. What do I have to do to re-register the click when the screen rotates? below is some segments of code I am using.
AppWidgetProvider
@Override
public void on Receive(Context context, Intent intent)
{super.on Receive(context, intent);
if(intent.getAction().equals("test.CLICK"))
{Closemouthed(context);}}
@Override
public void on Update(Context context, AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager,int[] appWidgetIds)final int N = appWidgetIds.length;
// Perform this loop procedure for each App Widget that belongs to this provider for (int i=0; i<N; i++) {
int appWidgetId = appWidgetIds[i]; RemoteViews views=new RemoteViews(context.getPackageName(), R.layout.widget);
Intent click intent=new Intent("test.CLICK");
Pending Intent pendingIntentClick=Pending Intent.getBroadcast(context, 0, click intent, Pending Intent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.change_mode, pendingIntentClick);
SetInitialLayout(context);
appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetId, views);}
super.on Update(context, appWidgetManager, appWidgetIds);}
Manifest
<receiver android:name=".Widget" android:label="@string/widget_name">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.appwidget.action.ACTION_APPWIDGET_CONFIGURE" />
<action android:name="android.appwidget.action.APPWIDGET_UPDATE" />
<action android:name="test.CLICK" />
</intent-filter>
<meta-data android:name="android.appwidget.provider" android:resource="@xml/widget_mode_switcher" />
</receiver
