I'm writing a little app that uses GPS coordinates and I have a toast that pops up and displays my current GPS coordinates (and updates them as they change).It works fine but when I close the app the toast remains and covers whatever I do on the homescreen (and continues to update the GPS coordinates).How do I get it to cancel when I close/hide the application?

Have found it so far when I am going into setting to uninstall an app and in Sound Recorder.
I reset to factory settings and it was fine....reinstalled all my apps.
I think one of the apps is causing the issue but don't know which one.
Anyway I can find out - is there a trouble shooting app or something I can run in hidden commands?
I am writing an application that listens to phone calls and perform some tasks when phone call arrives. The Application contains one activity which includes 2 buttons 'Start' and 'Stop' (where starts register the listener and stops unregister it - see code below).
The problem starts when the application is closed ( onDestroy is called ). If the user pressed on the start button and exit from the application the listener still working (which is the expected behavior) but from now it is impossible to unregister the listener since launching new instance of the application create new instance of phoneListener.
My question is:
1.Is there better way to implement my requirement?
2.Can I save the phoneListener object and reload It on application creation?

However long presses of the volume keys do succeed in crashing my application. The Log generated on crash is the following...
The approach I follow:
I have a toast Object and for every key press event detected I inflate a view ,set the view elements within, set it to the toast and then show the toast.
Any idea what is going wrong ? code...

Essentially it would some sort of mobile terminal for a special chemistry database.It doesn't make any sense, to distribute this application via "Android Market" since it is only useful for special users and payment wont be done per installation but for the whole contract.Is there any other way to distribute android apps besides the market? Maybe by putting them on a web page? Any hints appreciated since i couldn't find anything on the web.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an Android application that is a TabHost with a WebView. I use it to load a specific html file that has a text field in its bottom part. When I touch the html textfield, the soft keyboard pops up, and hides the textfield, so that I cannot see what I have typed.

I am currently running CL14 stock with Open Home and I wanted to let you security conscious folks know about a security issue I discovered. I hit the end button and pulled up my phones lock screen. Decided to test the new emergency dialer and when I pulled that up Open Home had force closed. When I hit end it returned me to the main screen w/o me entering my combination. I assume this could happen with any force closed app so although it's a rare issue that something FCs in the background it is possible and is a security issue. Just a heads up.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I exit out of an app the screen is blank for 30 seconds or so before my widgets and icons reappear. I had it back in November 2009 and I still have it after 2.0.1 and 2.1 and 2.2 and the other 2.2. I see a million threads here and on other forums asking about it. Just checking in to see if there was ever a solution discovered. Like all of you, I can always bring them back with a hard or soft reset.
I'm just wondering if anyone has found a way to prevent it from happening in the first place. I assume that it's related to available memory or processor or something, so every once in a while I think "I'm going to streamline this thing and give it all kinds of available memory" and it doesn't work. I kill all widgets and go to vanilla wallpaper and it still happens. Anyone figure this thing out?

I know that it might not be the best way to require something like that, but the application will work with quite a lot of data, and I don't even want to think about storing that on the device storage.Anyway, to ensure that the application wont run without the external storage, I do a quick check in the activities onCreate method. If the card is not mounted, I want to display an error message and then quit the application.When I run the application, and the exception gets raised (I raise it manually to check if everything works), the error message is displayed correctly. However when I press the button, the application closes and I get an Android error, that the application was closed unexpectedly (and I should force exit).I read some topics before on closing an application, and I know that it maybe shouldn't happen like that. But how should I instead prevent the application from continuing to run? How do you close the application correctly when an error occurs?

Than I tried to click on the "back" key, but nothing happend, so I've created a key event listener for the 'back" key, and inside that method I wrote finish(); Now my app is closing but I think it's still running in the background, because when I go to "manage applications" I can still see it in the "running" tab, and if I press it, I see I can click on the "force close" to actually close the app. What do I need to do in order to really close the app without leaving it open (one way or another)?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have uploaded application to market and met weird problem which I never received before - when I click "Open" button when the application is installed I receive error dialog and the application is forced to close. I do not have this problem when start application from desktop launcher panel. I have already receive 2 stars for that though the exception even comes not from my cod - very unpleasant surprize from market app.
Application uses vibration and declares corresponding uses-permission "android.permission.VIBRATE" - this is what the exception tells me about, but I can't see such problem with other apps that use vibration on market.

the problem is that this button doesn't exit of my app... it simply closes the current intent ant returns to the previous intent (window) of my app.... how i can do a real exit/close button? i tryed with this:
