I'm writing a little app that uses GPS coordinates and I have a toast that pops up and displays my current GPS coordinates (and updates them as they change). It works fine but when I close the app the toast remains and covers whatever I do on the homescreen (and continues to update the GPS coordinates). How do I get it to cancel when I close/hide the application?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOk, I've tried two examples of AlarmManager- one from the commonsware website, and one from the manning website. The code I am currently working with is from the manning website : [http://unlocking-android.googlecode.com/svn/chapter8/trunk/SimpleAlarm/][1] There are two classes, AlarmReceiver and GenerateAlarm. Anyone have any idea why the toast will not display in the emulator? I was thinking that it was because I am located in the Eastern Time Zone and it uses UTC, but I have fiddled with different things and none of them seem to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an IntentService that handles button callbacks from a widget. When the user presses a certain button, I want to display a Toast. I return from onHandleIntent almost immediately after doing Toast.show(), which in turn stops the service and kills its thread, which keeps the Toast from actually being displayed.
Can anyone suggest an easy way to get the Toast (or something similar) to display from an IntentService?
I looked for any information about onTap event processing for itemized overlays in this group. There is a lot of useful information but I could not find the answer to one question.
The tutorial by Mark Murphy on itemized overlays, http://androidguys.com/?p=1413
describes how to generate a Toast message whenever an onTap event occurs. In his case, the custom itemized overlay activity is included in the main activity. In my case, it is not. My custom itemized overlay activity is included in the application package as a public activity.
This means that the line Toast.makeText(NooYawk.this, items.get(i).getSnippet(), Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); will not work "as is".
I have had trouble in correctly identifying the context for the Toast. Attempts to use the main class' (the one calling the custom itemized overlay class) context have not worked. I would appreciate it if anyone could suggest how I could resolve this issue. Incorporating the custom itemized overlay class in the main class is not a desirable option.
Alternatively, I would appreciate any suggestions for generating a display of the title and/or snippet information for markers on a map.
The onTap event works fine (Log.i statements in the onTap method display the correct information for each marker tapped)
I noticed that a toast isn't displayed when it's used inside a catch block.
Does anyone know how to show toasts when catching exceptions?
I just recently received mine Galaxy S5 and sometimes a toast message pops up with the message "Stealth application cannot register this application".
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am writing an application that listens to phone calls and perform some tasks when phone call arrives. The Application contains one activity which includes 2 buttons 'Start' and 'Stop' (where starts register the listener and stops unregister it - see code below).
The problem starts when the application is closed ( onDestroy is called ). If the user pressed on the start button and exit from the application the listener still working (which is the expected behavior) but from now it is impossible to unregister the listener since launching new instance of the application create new instance of phoneListener.
My question is:
1.Is there better way to implement my requirement?
2.Can I save the phoneListener object and reload It on application creation?

View 2 Replies View RelatedA customer asked me to create an android application for their internal use. Essentially it would some sort of mobile terminal for a special chemistry database. It doesn't make any sense, to distribute this application via "Android Market" since it is only useful for special users and payment wont be done per installation but for the whole contract. Is there any other way to distribute android apps besides the market? Maybe by putting them on a web page? Any hints appreciated since i couldn't find anything on the web.

I hit the end button and pulled up my phones lock screen. Decided to test the new emergency dialer and when I pulled that up Open Home had force closed. When I hit end it returned me to the main screen w/o me entering my combination. I assume this could happen with any force closed app so although it's a rare issue that something FCs in the background it is possible and is a security issue. Just a heads up.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I exit out of an app the screen is blank for 30 seconds or so before my widgets and icons reappear. I had it back in November 2009 and I still have it after 2.0.1 and 2.1 and 2.2 and the other 2.2. I see a million threads here and on other forums asking about it. Just checking in to see if there was ever a solution discovered. Like all of you, I can always bring them back with a hard or soft reset.
I'm just wondering if anyone has found a way to prevent it from happening in the first place. I assume that it's related to available memory or processor or something, so every once in a while I think "I'm going to streamline this thing and give it all kinds of available memory" and it doesn't work. I kill all widgets and go to vanilla wallpaper and it still happens. Anyone figure this thing out?
I think I am ready for some testers for a GPS Golf application. This will be my first Android application so I am looking for someone that is a little tech savvy (knows how to install 3rd party application etc..). The application right now is fairly simple, but it does display some GPS information.I currently don't have an Android device (working on it) so if you don't even golf and just want to help out a developer then that would be great to!I can send a link to the apk file from an email or a PM.Just post to this thread or send me an email at howfarami [at] gmail [dot] com.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working on an Android app that's licensed under Apache Software License 2.0. As recommended in best practice, I would like to display the license to the end user for acceptance before proceeding. However, the ASL text is large and I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to show the entire license.
I would like to know if there are any recommendations for apps under ASL on what license text to use (perhaps an abbreviated version of ASL)? Pointers to actual license text would be quite helpful. At a minimum, I was thinking to show the "Disclaimer of Warranty" section and for the whole license include the link to ASL site.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to display GoogleMaps in my application, but instead of map I just get an empty screen with crosses and Google logo in the bottom left corner. I'm using Internet permission in manifest file, just as the library "com.google.android.maps". I have also supported my application with Android Maps API key and I placed it in layout as android:apiKey value for MapView, but it still can't display the map.
main.xml:
<com.google.android.maps.MapView android:id="@+id/myMapView"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:enabled="true" android:clickable="true"
android:apiKey="07vNiwHa094tV14bUdyK0VTtXx0eeAZlk6WdKXQ" />
manifest.xml:
<uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" /> ...
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.INTERNET" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
I have used two different API Key values, regarding whether I signed the application with debug or my own created keystore, but it didn't work with none of them.
I would like to know if it's possible to display an activity inside a layout of my activity. For example I would like to display the Phone application inside a layout of my activity.

I have an application that is designed to pop up a question when a phone call ends using a BroadcastReceiver and a PhoneStateListener.
My problem is, when a call is received while the user is not currently using my application, the dialog is not displayed until the application is manually started. I would like either for the dialog to be displayed on top of what ever context the user is currently in, or that my application will be focused.
How is this done?

android:layout_width=*"wrap_content"*
