1. create simple image (3 rows with different color)
2. assign this image to a button
I want to create image buttons with a flexible size so that they can fit in any android device without problems as when creating them the regular way I don't get the required result,

Can anybody please guide me how to write the code for opening the new image after clicking the imagebutton in android. I have tried something like this:

I am very new to Android (and Java) originally a C# developer.. and am struggling with the concepts and terminology.
I have been through almost all the tutorials and have decided to start on my first test app.The first part of my app is going to involve using the gallery widget (based on the hello gallery tutorial) to display a load of images. (these images will eventually come from the phones camera, but I will cross that bridge later!) My images are currently stored in the drawable folder in my project. As a first step I want to just have the user click on an image and it pops up full screen, just so I know how to get reference to it, but I am struggling. Evetually I want the user to click an image, then a window/activity(?) will open asking them for a bit of text. This will then be store in sqllite against the image. Code...
I have 3 activities in my app: Activity1 -> Activity2 -> Activity3. Inside Activity3, if the user presses Back, I would like to return to Activity2. In Activity3's onPause event, I added a finish() statement. That's probably not even necessary, but I wanted to make sure this Activity gets cleaned up. This works fine.
However, while in Activity3, if the user presses Home or starts a new app (through notification bar or some other means), I want both Activity3 and Activity2 to finish. If the user returns to this app, he should resume with Activity1.
I have figured out how to do one or the other, but I can't figure out how to handle both cases, if it's even possible. Can I trap the "Back" button in Activity3 and send a message back to Activity2 telling it not to finish()? It seems like the Activities follow the same lifecycle flow (Pause, Stop) regardless of what you do to send them to the background. Just to answer the question of why I want this behavior, imagine that Activity1 is a login screen, Activity2 is a selection screen, and Activity3 is a content screen. If I press Back from the content page, I want to be able to make a new selection. If I exit via any other means (Home, notification bar), I want the user to be "logged out".
Need an example of how to create/start a new activity from the main activity. I have a button click event on the main layout. Originally I just used setContentView(R.layout.secondactivity); which brings up the layout but I don't think that is correct since the secondactivity class is not instantiated at this point yet. I have looked for such an example and can not find one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know how to make a button out of a PNG and display it on my canvas (using drawBitmap?). When I click on this button, it will take me to a new activity. All this will be in the onClickListener. So, how do I take a PNG, make a button with it, and draw it on my canvas? I looked at ImageButton, but I'm unsure how it works or how to draw it on the canvas.

Is there a way to create Buttons that contain both an Image and Text (image on top text below or image left and text right)? And how can this be done within a xml layout file? For example, the application 'Pkt Auctions eBay' (see Android Market) has these type of buttons. So far I have tried and googled all over and found nothing on the matter. Help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA 'Button' view comes up with text, while the 'ImageButton' widget comes up with an image but no text, is there a way to relatively easily (e.g. method calls, say), either:
1. Add text to ImageButton (like those buttons that appear in menu item/via the physical menu button)?
2. Add an icon/image to a Button?
without resorting to constructing a new button class? I.e. I could put text within the image, but then I can't use Localization properly/effectively.
I'm trying to have an image (as the background) on a button and add dynamically, depending on what's happening during run-time, some text above/over the image. If I use ImageButton I don't even have the possibility to add text. If I use Button I can add text but only define an image with android: drawableBottom and similar XML attributes as defined here.
However these attributes only combine text & image in x- and y-dimensions, meaning I can draw an image around my text, but not below/under my text (with the z-axis defined as coming out of the display). One idea would be to either extend Button or ImageButton and override the draw()-method. But with my current level of knowledge I don't really know how to do this (2D rendering). Maybe someone with more experience knows a solution or at least some pointers to start?
