Android :: How To Link To RTSP Stream On Android Phone?
Jul 18, 2010
I need to play an RTSP audio stream on an Android phone, linked to from a web-page. What's the simplest way to achieve this? I hope this will be very simple but unfortunately I don't have a phone on which to test.

I'm using VideoView to play an RTSP video stream. It works fine, however on my Android phone the audio lags the video by about 3 seconds. If I watch it on my computer with VLC both the audio and video are in sync. Has anyone else experienced this audio delay before and how might I go about correcting it on the phone.

I was tried for RTSP stream for a long time, finally I could success to play the RTSP stream from mobile Youtube website:
http://m.youtube.com/
My approach is to copy the stream link and paste it in my code, then, there are sometimes success to work(play) on Android and sometimes will not. I can't figure out why? Is something wrong about Youtube server? Because my code is just the same, and only change is the stream link URL. I used VideoView widget and my Android platform is sdk 1.5 and under x86-based, so I really want to know why and how can I solved for this. This is the logcat when I can't work for the video stream.

I wanted to stream A/V from my machine to Android over HTTP
(http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/libav-user/2010-July/004944.html).
But that does not seem feasible using FFMpeg. I am planning to try FFMpeg streaming over RTSP. But I am not sure whether MediaPlayer or VideoView classes on Android support RTSP playback. Is playing RTSP stream possible in simple application?

I want to stream a media file on web, and android developer website has said that MediaPlayer.setDataSource() can set the data source (file-path or http/rtsp URL) to use. But I got an error in both G1 device and emulator when streaming a rtsp url file: Command PLAYER_PREPARE completed with an error or info PVMFailure error(1, -1). Does anyone know what is this error, or anyone knows where can I get the error description (1, -1) means? the code can work successfully when playing a audio/video file or streaming a http protocal sudio/video file, but can't stream rtsp protocal file. Is android not supported rtsp streaming?

I have an app that worked fine on Android 2.1 (Eclair) but is no longer working in 2.2.1 (Froyo). I think this may have to do with the shift from OpenCore to StageFright for video encoding and decoding, but am unsure.
The debug logs show two things I'm not sure about:
Does this mean H.264 baseline is not supported? WARN/QCvdec(59): Parsing Error unsupported profile or level No idea about: ERROR/PVOMXVidDecNode(59): Ln 1373 OMX_EventError nData1 -2147479542 nData2 0
Play the following url (it works fine in VLC, for example): rtsp://nexus3.dropcam.com/6821ec44e37846428850ec195d69969a

I have Googled my butt off trying to find where if there is a surefire way to make rtsp work. I have a radio station that I listen to that streams via rtsp. Of course by default Android doesn't want to play it. If I pop the URL into yourmuze.fm and create a station there it lets me stream it to my phone. After checking how it works I come to find that it streams to the phone via rtsp! So obviously there is something amiss. What makes one stream work and one not? This is the stream I am attempting : rtsp://wms2.christiannetcast.com/yes-fm
It is an audio stream so I would be thrilled with most peoples problem of "it only does audio and not video." When yourmuze.fm streams, DDMS states it brings up MovieView to play the audio if that helps at all.

I have a WebView in my Android App that is loading an HTML string using the loadDataWithBaseURL() method. The problem is that local anchor links (<a href="#link">...) are not working correctly. When the link is clicked, it becomes highlighted, but does not scroll to the corresponding anchor.
This also does not work if I use the WebView's loadUrl() method to load a page that contains anchor links. However, if I load the same URL in the browser, the anchor links do work.
Is there any special handling required to get these to work for a WebView?
I am using API v4 (1.6).
There isn't much to the code, here are the relevant parts of some test code I've been working with:

I've searched several forums but it's been hard to find a clear-cut answer for the app I'm looking for. There is an app for iphone called "here file file" that from what I understand allows a user to access and play pretty much any file such as audio and video on their iphone that is on their Mac. You don't have to be at home using your own wifi connection or any wifi connection for that matter. So basically you can access your Mac files from anywhere and play them on your iphone. I've seen remote desktop apps but I'm not sure they do the same thing and I've seen mention of things like orb and vlc but does anyone know if they do what I'm looking for? I have a new Samsung Moment and would love to be able to do this.

I have a Samsung Moment with Android 2.1 on it and lately I cannot stream music or video in any app that I try. The YouTube app says "Sorry, this video cannot be played." for every single video, and if I try to use something like DroidLive (for shoutcast and such) it has a connection error every time. Grooveshark has an "Unknown MediaPlayer error." I tried a few other random apps off of the market to try to rule things out and none of them would play. Music that is stored on my SD card plays just fine.
It doesn't only not work sometimes, it doesn't work 100% of the time now. Happens when I have 3G and even if I'm connected to Wifi. I did a factory reset last night thinking that maybe an app had messed with a setting somewhere and it still doesn't work. I have no clue what else I could possibly try.
EDIT: As requested by the stickied thread:
1.) Model Number - SPH-M900
2.) Firmware Version - 2.1-update1
3.) Baseband Version - S:M900.8.0S.DD03
4.) Kernel Version - 2.6.29
5.) Build Number - ECLAIRDD03
And the hardware version is M900.8.0

Audiogalaxy has finally open the floodgates and is allowing sign ups to their cloud streaming service. It's free and for android. You download their app to your phone, as well as the client for your computer, which scans your music collection in the designated folder and allows you to stream it to your phone.So far, it works great! It has some mis-tagging issues (it'll auto-tag on the website, which won't affect your actual files), and playlists are limited to 500 at the moment (which only bugs me because my favorites playlist on my now-dying Zune is well over 500 tracks) but the developers are taking all the feedback and are hard at work. This is the best service of its kind so far, I dare say.

If a page has a URL or a phone number on it that isn't a link is there any way to have WebView recognize it and automatically turn it into a link like you can with TextViews?
With a TextView you would simply set the android:autoLink to the desired settings:
<TextView
android:autoLink="web|phone"
... />
but I can't find any equivalent for WebView.

To read RTSP streaming has been discussed a lot, but still not solved. Now android 1.5 realized, can RTSP streaming be played in android? The method setDateSource seems provide a way to receive RTSP streaming.
public void setDataSource (String path)
Sets the data source (file-path or http/rtsp URL) to use. Parameters path the path of the file, or the http/rtsp URL of the stream you want to play Throws IllegalStateException if it is called in an invalid state IOException IllegalArgumentException. Who knows how to use it? I wrote:
MediaPlayer mp =new MediaPlayer();
try { mp.setDataSource("rtsp://live.cri.cn/pop");
mp.setAudioStreamType(AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC);
mp.prepare(); mp.start();
} catch (IllegalArgumentException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IllegalStateException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
// TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace();
}
But didn't work. May be the parameter in setAudioStreamType is wrong. Who knows?

I have difficulties to stream a video file via RTSP using wireless LAN inside the browser. It works fine over the cellular network (WLAN deactivated). But if WLAN is activated the player the starts loading the clip but eventually displays an alert window stating that video playback is not possible. I encountered this issue on m.youtube.com and also on another site. Is it a bug? Maybe it is the T-Mobile branding?

I am seeing an issue when using rtsp based URLs on a wap site. If the rstp link has one redirect, then it works and default video player plays the stream. If the rtsp link redirects to another rtsp server and that server redirects to the final destination, then it does not play. Is there a limit in the # of rtsp redirects?

I am looking for a way to play a live video stream on android. At this moment I publish webcam from Flash application to Red5 and transcode it there into the second live stream using Ffmpeg.
How can I play the second stream on Android ? I tried to transcode the stream into mp4 file, and hint it with MP4Box, but it doesn't work because file is busy by ffmpeg process...I see Red5 RTSP plugin, is it possible to receive the published RTMP stream via this plugin on Android ?
