Please direct me to a description of the techniques that the ContentProvider employs to access data. I am trying to understand how it works as well as what is tunable or even if its meant to be tunable. It the memory management tiered, cached, virtual, flat? Is it file based, shmem based, stream based? Can there be a combination thereof?
Any information, suggestions, or references are welcome. The android fundamentals page says: "The data can be stored in the file system, in an SQLite database, or in any other manner that makes sense;" but the android ContenProvider page barely skins the onion.

I'm trying to bind data from my SQLiteDatabase to a ListView. I'm currently using a SimpleCursorAdapter to fill in my ListView. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work with setting a CheckBox's checked attribute. This is how I do it now; instead of changing the CheckBox's checked status the adapter is filling in the value to the text argument, so the value is displayed right of the CheckBox as text.
Java:
setListAdapter( new SimpleCursorAdapter( this, R.layout.mylist, data,
new String[] { Datenbank.DB_STATE, Datenbank.DB_NAME }, new int[] { R.id.list_checkbox, R.id.list_text } ) );
mylist.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayout01"
android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<CheckBox android:text="" android:id="@+id/list_checkbox"
android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:checked="false" > </CheckBox>
<TextView android:text="" android:id="@+id/list_text" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" > </TextView> </LinearLayout>
The field in the database is of course of type boolean and I've also tried to assign an id to the checked field to fill the value in.

Where could I find any examples of rendering XML data in a ListView? i.e, the model is read from a XML file, not in an existing array or database cursors.

I'm making an Android Java app game (although this question applies to all languages really) and hope to release the first version soon. I'm nervous about how I save data in my game. My problem is that, if in a later update, I decide to store more data or store the same data in a different way, I need to be careful I don't lose or corrupt data for users that upgrade (i.e. I want users to be able to use data created by an old version in the new version, like their high scores from before).For example, say I want to save high scores in version 1.

I created a SQLite database on Android device. The program can read/write to database so the database file has obviously been created. The SQLiteDatabase.mPath is set to
db.mPath = "/data/data/dev.client.android/databases/clientDB.db"
but when I browse the directories on the device I can't locate the file clientDB.db. I looked inside data directory but it appears to be empty.Does anyone know what could be wrong here?

I am building an app which will let the user take a photo, then add some details which will be stored in a database. I want to be able to store some information (URI?) in the database so that when the user clicks the database entry from a listview it retrieves the photo. I hope it is clear what I want to do. Could I instead use a file path to locate the photo? Or do I need the URI? If I do need the URI then how do I get it?

1. Is there any stored procedure support in the sqlite database of Android? and any docs on doing this?
2. Is there any way my Android progam can know the data in the Android native data set have been changed? like contacts, calllog, and calendar? that is, once the data inside the Android native database have been changed, can my program be notified? and how to do it?

Here is what I am trying to do:
- have a database that contains a word, and the name of an image file associated with that word.
- the words from the database will be displayed in a listview
- when the word is selected, a new activity will start displaying the word and the image in an image view.
Would it be best to store the terms in an array and have the list view populate from this array and then pull from the database onitemclick? Or can the list view be populated with the terms from the database?
Will android be able to display the image if the name of the file is stored in the db?

Where are the images that you scan stored? Are they stored on your phone? Or on a database at Google? (They are stored somewhere since you can see the history of images you have used with Goggles).

I'm populating a listview from a database query and I can't seem to figure out what is going wrong.
As you will see in the image, the query is returning some sort of id. I've done a ton of googling, but the problem is that I don't know what to search!

I'm now trying to implement my own content provider. My original data was stored on network or local/remote file systems, so I want to provide data via input stream. I know that client may call ContentResolver.getnputStream to retrieve the input stream to access data. But I don't know how to implement content provider in this situation, I searched the Internet but all the tutorials for content provider are talks about how to expose data that stored on local database. how to expose data that stored on file systems using a content provider? what happened when client call ContentResolver.getnputStream? I want to know how to return an input stream to my client.

So, the moron at the Verizon store who was activating my replacement Droid decided to import or retrieve contact data from my broken droid / SD card....he didn't know that it handled all the contacts from the cloud. As soon as I entered my gmail login it imported all my contacts and so, now I have contacts with duplicate data and some contacts that are now just phone numbers. I tried deleting the contact data and resyncing but it appears to be grabbing this duplicate data from somewhere. All my contacts are CLEAN in gmail when viewed online. But if I look on the phone, when go to edit them each person has 1 contact with multiple google contacts merged together. The problem is, any time I go to search contacts or enter a contact in email or create a contact shortcut, all of them are appearing twice in the selection list.
I went through each contact and split the merges, essentially deleting the dupes, but they are still appearing multiple times in the search/selection lists....and when I resync the dupes come back. I don't see anything that looks like contact data/backup on the SD card and don't know if that is something that can be deleted from the phone's memory or not?
[I know I can deleted all the dupes, but my concern is that I did this already and they came back. Is this data stored anywhere else that it might be pulling it from again when I sync?]

I have a Windows web server already set up with a website (unlimited application pools) and I want to be able to access a database on that server via the Android app I'm developing. How can I do this? Can someone point me to a tutorial or give code example of how this cross-platform (Android/Java to ASP.NET/C#) communication can be done? (I'm trying to create a leader board or global scoreboard for my Android game on my server.)

I created the following method for retrieving stored settings from the database:
public String getEntry(long rowIndex){
String value = "";
Cursor c = db.query(DATABASE_TABLE, new String[] {KEY_NAME, VALUE}, KEY_NAME + "=" + rowIndex, null, null, null, null);
int columnIndex = c.getColumnIndex(VALUE);
int rowsCount = c.getCount();
if(rowsCount > 0){
String value = c.getString(columnIndex);
}
return value;
}
On debugging I can see cursor c contains two columns and one row but when it comes to line
String value = c.getString(columnIndex);
it throws the CursorIndexOutOfBoundsException although columnIndex = 1 which should point to a valid entry. Does anyone know what could be wrong here?

I am not sure why, but when I comment out the code below where it retrieves an object from the database based on id stored in the bundle, the problem goes away.
Not sure why the db transaction is causing an issue.
secondly, is it better to store the object in bundle instead of storing its id and retrieving it from db in onCreate?

If I have a bunch of data that is never going to change (eg. an English language dictionary or the rgb values of a couple hundred color names), how do I use an SQLite database to store it? I know a database is faster than loading everything into memory when the app starts, but how do I make the database either the first time the app runs or "before" the apps ever runs?

I am an android application developer. I am developing an application which requires of me to use Sqlite database. I have implemented fetching the data, but i am facing problems when i try to insert data into the Sqlite database. The problem that i am having is that the new data i enter is not fetched, i.e nothing is new is being entered into the database.
this is the method i wrote in Data.java
myDataBase is an object of SQLiteDatabase
public void insertTitle(String Recipe)
ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues();
initialValues.put(COLUMN_NAME,value);
myDataBase.insert(ZRECIPE, null, initialValues);
}
and i create an object "d" of it in Add.java, where i call the "insertTitle()" method. But nothing is inserted.
