Android :: Gallery Widget - Focus And Selection Gone?

Aug 26, 2010

I'm trying to realize how the focus and selection in the Gallery widget is doing their job. I'm facing weird situations when trying to update information (TextViews and Spinner) upon a selected item in the Gallery. The focus and selection is lost. So, using the resource gallery_item_background will end in showing the "unselected" background for the current selected image. I have used the .xml that came with the android sdk, and I can't realize how this is happening. I have set setFocusable(false) and setFocusableInTouchMode(false) to all other Views to try out (and true for the Gallery) without any luck.

I have also add 'in-situ' debug, that is, a menu that updates differents widgets when onItemSelected() is called. So I can see while using the application how the background resource is applied. When set to 'no update' the obvious thing happens. None of the widgets are updated with new values, and the background resource works as expected. When set to 'manual update' (an update in the listener that do: .setText() on the textview) does work depending the current View that is showing the TextViews (I have a ViewFlipper that display 2 differents Layout of the TextViews)...............

Android :: Broken Gallery View? Using Gallery Set Selection (int Position / Boolean Animate)

Feb 6, 2009

I'm trying to set the selection of a Gallery in code. I would like to have the Gallery smoothly roll down a few items over the duration of a second or two. At frist glance, it appears that two members would to the trick:Gallery.setAnimationDuration(int animationDurationMillis); Gallery.setSelection(int position, boolean animate); It turns out that the setAnimationDuration only seems to affect the rubber-bandy "return-to-center" effect of the Gallery. In other words, when a gallery comes to rest after a fling, and a gallery item is off center, the animationDurationMillis is used to control the duration of the Gallery centering up the item. However, the value seems to have no effect on the setSelection. No matter what value is set with setAnimationDuration, the Gallery seems to render about 2 or 3 frames when flying between items 1 and 10 for example. Is this working as designed? Does anyone know a trick or workaround that would let me properly animate setSelection? I'd be especially grateful if we could do it with an "Ease Out" effect.

Android :: Gallery With Folder Selection?

Mar 29, 2010

I have a Droid just running stock 2.0.1. What I am looking for is a photo/picture gallery app that simply let's you select the folders that you want to display in the app. I was fine with the stock gallery for awhile, but then I started getting a variety of apps that store pictures in various folders (the worst one being Touchdown for Exchange which puts almost every attachment in a new folder). The stock gallery now takes forever to load up, as it is loading a TON of folders with images in them. Really it makes it almost useless at this point. This was the main reason I switched to MixZing for audio, as it let me narrow my library down to the few folders that actually mattered.

HTC EVO 4G :: Picture In Gallery Don't Focus To Their Maximum Clearness

Jun 18, 2010

I borrowed this from an incredible thread bcuz it is EXACTLY what is happening with my EVO.Pictures in gallery don't focus to their maximum clearness. So with my awesome 8 mega pixel camera I like to take some pictures, and then show them off (obviously using the gallery). But I noticed they turn out good, but if you zoom in a little, like pinch to zoom, then zoom out to the normal size (when the picture originally appears) it gets crisper and soooo much clearer. It's unbelievable. Try it, You'll see what I'm talking about. It's only with pictures the phone takes.I have tried pulling up a picture and waiting for it to auto focus (like it would load or something), but nothing happens. No matter what I do or how long I wait.So does anyone know why this is? I have to pinch and zoom in, then zoom out to the normal size to get the best quality of the photo when viewing it in the gallery and this is getting old Anyone have a solution to this?

Android : Italics Clipped In Widget - Messes Up Selection Order

Feb 8, 2010

I've got a button with italics text in an app widget and the last letter gets clipped when I set the width to wrap_content. It doesn't get clipped with fill_parent, but then that messes up the selection order.

Things I've tried: - space after my text - seems to get trimmed off automatically - layout_marginRight - paddingRight

Anybody know what's going on here? Is this a bug?

HTC Incredible :: Get WiFi Selection Widget?

May 1, 2010

Is there a widget for WiFi selection? I'm in a house with more than one that I use and jump from one to another....

The current widget only turns it on and off...and the WiFi defaults to connecting to the last connected.... not the strongest.

On a side note I have a dual band wireless-n router....the phone (if it is wireless n) only sees the 2.4 ghz spectrum...not the 5 (which is much faster and less interference). And in case anyone asks why you would need it....internal networking...Not for surfing the web.

Or maybe there's a better way?

Android :: Drawing Focus Highlight In Custom Widget

Jul 6, 2009

I have made a custom widget, very similar to JTable in Swing. It is not editable, and all data is replaced at once, allowing easy checking for the widest item in each column & custom col sizing at replace time. It is a subclass of LinearLayout, filled with re-usable TableRow Objects, sub-classed directly from View.

TableRow is both Clickable, focusable, & focusable In Touch Mode. TableRow overrides onDraw(Canvas), calling super. It draws the first column in Black with Lt gray underneath. If the TableRow isFocused () , then a filled rectangle is drawn, before the rest of the cols (left or right justified based on data type), and borders. Where do I get the color, orange, to draw the filled rectangle indicating focus? android.R.drawable.list_selector_background seems to be a pointer, value 17301602, not an actual color. Placing any real Color in my code draws things fine. Is this 17301602 transparent or something? Am I doing this wrong, or do I just need to know how to fine the orange?

1) Linearlayout ( We think it's bad)

2) ListView ( We think it's a good option and get a little worry about performance--too many pictures!)

3) subclass of AbsSpinner like Gallery and do something like Gallery source.

Which one is easy, time-saving and less performance or other problems.

Android :: Programmatically Animate Between Images In Gallery Widget

Apr 28, 2010

I'd like to programmatically move between images in the Gallery widget, with animation.

I can change the currently displaying image using the setSelection(int position) method, however that does not animate. Then there's setSelection(int position, bool animate) but the extra boolean on the end there doesn't appear to do anything.

In the source of Gallery it appears that it can handle DPAD key-presses, so a work-around I thought of was to fake the key-presses. Eg.

dispatchKeyEvent(new KeyEvent(KeyEvent.ACTION_DOWN, KeyEvent.KEYCODE_DPAD_LEFT))

However I can't get this working for some reason. Anyone tried this?

I notice three of the widget's methods I'd love to use moveNext(), movePrevious() and scrollToChild() are all private and unusable.

Does anyone know how I might be able to do this?
