Android :: Emma Code Coverage
Feb 3, 2010
We're using android for some software engineering courses at our university. The students should produce code coverage reports for their unit tests, so we looked at the android-2.0 SDK which says on the release page:
"Adds new Ant build system with support for Emma instrumentation projects (code coverage)."
However I'm unable to find any documentation or examples for this. Does someone have more information about it?

I would like to measure the code coverage for the UI application without using JUnit test cases. Is there any way that we can capture the report for the user key events on the application which is running on device.

I am looking a way to use Emma on Android project. I have an application -project, and withing that, I have Junit test cases. Now How do I use Emma tool(command line) to get code coverage report on testcases?
I searched a lot but could not find a good/simple tutorial. I read somewhere that Android ant lib has a target "coverage" that does all thing, (running test cases, generating emma report). How do I use that?

Is there a way to run unit tests for Android from Eclipse in a way that will instrument the code and measure test code coverage?
I'm looking for a simple way to find out which parts of my application aren't tested yet, fix the test cases and see if that helped.

No matter where I go I have terrible 3G coverage. Either a weak signal or no coverage at all. I've had a blackberry before and always had great 3G coverage in these same areas. What could be the problem?

I've been following the Android OS and admiring it for some time lately, but I don't yet own a device. The one I have my eye on later this month is the Dell Streak. My question for you experts is this : Is it worth it to use an Android device without any 3g plan at all?
I basically don't care about facebook or twitter in the slightest.I would just like to use the device as a powerful iPod touch to play videos, music, games, emulators, navigate with one of the offline apps, update my calendars and lists and take pictures / videos on occasion. And when its time to finally crash at the hotel, then get on the wifi and check my email and do my browsing. So if I were to try and use it this way, would I be missing out on anything important?Do all the major apps require 3g coverage? Can the device even be used without a 3g plan if its sold straight off of dell's website?

If you want the OP updated then PM me, I can't check this thread everyday.I think we could use this thread to keep track of 4G coverage as Sprint and Clear roll it out as well as rumored 4G spots. Here's a map and list of cities so far Clear has covered.

We ran core tests by the command "/development/testrunner/runtest.py - v --coverage core" and got coverage report successfully. But the reports says all are 0%. We ran apidemos and got coverage report which looks good.
Below is the console output for core tests:
CODE:.............
So I wonder why core tests's coverage report says 0% and how can I make the report make sense.

Is there an App for the Eris (Droid 1.5) That will allow me to compose and que emails and/or text messages while not connected to the Verizon network? This is useful in NYC where there's little coverage in the subway, and also, I suppose, in a Plane.

I've encountered a problem, when I run coverage with ant in my test project from another directory the report disappears, e.g. "ant -f some/dir/tests/build.xml coverage". This seems to be the cause that I cannot get reports when building through hudson.

So I was looking at the Sprint 4G coverage map and they have pretty much all of my city blanketed as having 4G coverage but I wondered just how realistic that was so I went to the Clearwire website to look at their coverage map.CLEAR WiMAX 4G Coverage Area Map.I think this gives a much more "clear" view of just how your coverage will be. For intance, half of my block (luckily the half where my apartment resides) is listed as having Best Clear Coverage whereas the other half just has Clear Coverage.Just thought it would be useful for everyone to be able to have a better idea of your 4G coverage. Unless I'm wrong and Sprint and Clear's coverage are not necessarily the same thing.

I've got a friend with an Evo, and both the Sprint store and his home show to be in a 4G service area. Home is supposed to have the 'best' coverage, and the Sprint store is supposed to have 'good' coverage.Neither location has ANY usable 4G coverage on the Evo. It cuts in and out with barely any signal at all, confuses the phone and never gets data easily until you turn off 4G. BTW the 4G adapters for computers work in both locations, albeit with low signals. The Evo, unusable. My friend went to Evo training and asked about the non-existent 4G coverage. The trainer said that all they can say is 'we can't guarantee 4G, 3G or 2G coverage.' WOW, that sounds just like AT&T when I had the iPhone 3G.

The same thing happened on my Hero, so it's Sprint related. I rarely leave my house. When I do, I'm never more than 3 miles from home. My entire surrounding area is in Sprints coverage area. Ninety-eight percent of the time I'm steadily on the 3G. Every now and then though, while still at home, my phone changes over to roaming for no rhyme or reason! I know Sprint won't throw a hissy fit over the calls and data (unless over the 300mb), but why is my phone doing this? I just checked my account and it says I've used 7760kb of data while roaming.

I think the Sprint coverage in my area might suck sweaty donkey balls. I really wanted to go with Sprint b/c of the EVO, my husband gets a really good discount with them through his work (22% of monthly bill and 25% off accessories), and I don't need to possibly strap a mattress on my back to pay the damn bill. I think? AT&T and Verizon have much better coverage here, and you also get a hefty bill for all that coverage. He does also get a good discount with AT&T as well but they make it so you have so sign your first born over with what they charge.

I stumbled upon this today. I never heard of a clear full body cover skin for cell phones. I'm interested in getting it for my EVO. Anyone already have it? how does it work on the edges? And, was it easy/difficult to install? I've been searching the web for a how-to video but haven't found one.

The whole idea of the EVO 4G is being able to take advantage of the faster speed for internet/videos/applications etc. Looking at the intended coverage map for the next year or so it doesn't appear the 4G network will cover my home area. While the network will be in the NYC area sooner than later, I only spend 25 hours a week in the city, and when I get home I won't be able to take advantage of the EVO network. It remains to be seen how long it will take Sprint to roll out this network to other cities in the surrounding suburbian areas.Correct me if I'm wrong but, if the device doesn't connect with the 4G network, it defaults to a 3G network? If that's the case, then switching to a device with limited usage for me personally doesn't make sense until they get up and running in more areas, which I imagine will take at least 2 years.

I have just been browsing around for phones to replace my knackered Sony Ericsson and have been incredibly tempted by a smartphone. Initially it was between the g1 and the iPhone, but the styling of the g1 really didnt get me going... Now I have discovered the gorgeous Magic and just want to know a few things. How are people finding coverage (3g and otherwise) throughout the UK on Vodafone? Also, I heard someone mention a limit on data transfer, any ideas what sort of limit is imposed?

Call this an experimentation of sorts. I want to see how quickly Sprint can roll out 4g coverage. Vote Yes or No as to whether or not you have 4g coverage in YOUR AREA ONLY. The poll will be open for 1 week. Next month I'll post a new poll along with the results of the previous poll. I'll do this for a few months to track their progress.

I don't know if this has been done before but I've created a public Google map for all of you to report any 4G coverage. Hopefully it'll gain some steam.I've left it open for anyone to edit.

I just recently bought a new EVO and have absolutely loved it. However, I just began having an issue with my 3g connection which happens to coincide with a microSD upgrade. I recently switched out the 8gb mSD for a SanDisk 16gb class 4 card. Well since then (24hours or so), I have had weird issues with very slow 3G coverage. My internet takes forever to load pages (if at all.) Mail, facebook, weather take forever to sync (the htc weather widget will actually display my hometown as "current location") However, streaming video through SprintTV & YouTube seems to work fine without any stutter. So, my question is: Does this sound like an issue with my 3G network or is the card switch causing these issues? Incidentally, everything works fine when using Wi-Fi. I will test my 4G coverage at work today to see if that works at all or not.

I have observed with my HTC Hero that it needs phone coverage for the GPS to work. For applications like the GPS tracker and my position they did not work in places where there was no phone coverage. Could some one please let me know whether this is the case or do I need to change my settings for the GPS to work independently of Phone coverage.

I am thinking of getting this new Sprint EVO 4G phone but I am hearing all kinds of horror stories in these forums. How is the 4G coverage in West Hollywood CA?? Los Angeles is scheduled for sometime before the end of the year. I am new to this whole Android world and I hate AT&T with a passion.

I have been having issues lately sending pic messages on my D2, about the past month or so.I use Handcent most the time and I just get the spinning circle. If I switch over to the default messaging app, I get the error "national coverage not available". I did the *228 and updated both my roaming profile (opt 2) and then called again and reprogrammed my phone (opt 1).I haven't changed anything in my settings with networks, access, etc.Anyone else experiencing this? I did a search on the forums but no results were found.

I looked at their maps, and it's mostly dark green. However, my home address in Cranston is "fair"... That shouldn't be a problem right? I've got AT&T now and the coverage is great. Last time I had Sprint (or was it still Nextel?) was when the i860 was new. I remember some dropped calls or having no bars. But that was YEARS ago. People say it's changed for the better. I guess I have 30 days to make that choice, but to be honest I know that once I have the phone I probably wont care if I have 2 or 3 bars out of 5.

We planned a trip to Kemah Boardwalk and I thought this would be a perfect time to do a small review of the Evo. So here is what I experienced with the Evo 4G. Please bear in mind that my focus was to have fun and not make this as an in-depth review of the phone.
1. 4G Coverage: Although Sprint's maps says that on our area (Sugar Land, Missouri, and Stafford) it has almost complete 4G coverage. My tests from different part of the vicinity only shows mostly 3G connectivity. And if it does show 4G, I don't notice any major change in speed, then again, I haven't timed it so please bear in mind the word - "notice".
2. Navigation was excellent! I prefer Google Navigation then Sprint's because of the satellite viewing while navigating... Even full-fledged navigation devices do not have this capability! There were a few times that google navigation would give a longer/slower route, but so does all other GPS devices. Over all, I'm pretty impressed with Google Navigation!
3. For a phone's camera, this thing is impressive! It won't replace a regular point and shoot camera. But this camera is excellent for internet viewing. Reduce the size to 25% of it's original size and almost all it's image quality issues will be greatly reduced. Here are some pictures I took at Kemah (Please take note, the pictures have been reduced 25%):
4. Lastly - Battery life... The battery didn't last long for me, yes I did put brightness to auto-brightness, turned off 4G, GPS (When I wasn't using it) and wifi. It barely lasted 3 hours, good thing I got my Seidio 1750 mAh extended battery, and no, I didn't notice any major difference between the OEM battery and the extended battery. Again no scientific and in-depth review here. My focus is not to review this phone, but to have fun. My second battery pretty much held out till we got back home, with me posting on FB on transit.
Overall, I have not too much to complain about, I just found some solutions to my issues. The only solution I haven't found yet, is the 4G coverage. From Sprint's map, it says we're fully covered, but as I go from place to place, the 4G coverage was spotty at best.
