Storm heading our way. I was wondering if anyone has any emergency weather radio apps on their phone. I was thinking about Wunder Radio, but I was wonderfing there are other, better options. Need some ideas in the next couple of hours

Ive looked all day and cant find an answer. If you are stranded in a remote area with absolutely no coverage can you use gps to send your coordinates to rescuers? If so, how is it done? If not, why cant it be done?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am posting this in hope that the Android developers take notice of an extremely frustrating problem I experienced today and that the problem is fixed with the next operating system update.Earlier today, I was in a car accident. I picked up my phone to call the police and decided to use the Emergency Mode because entering my password was just too much, given the mental state I was in. Well, I placed the call to the police, hung up, and then wanted to phone a friend of mine to come meet me because I was so distraught. I attempted to make the phone call using contact info stored on my phone. The phone wouldnt let me place the call, alerting me to the fact that the phone was in "Emergency Mode". So, I proceeded to push the button on the top of my phone, which shuts the screen off. Then, I pushed it again to turn the screen back on. I was given the option to either enter my password or, again, use Emergency Mode. This time, I entered my password, unlocking the phone. But, much to my dismay, I was still not able to place the call to my friend. The phone continued to indicate that it was in "Emergency Mode". I repeated this several times, each time re-entering my password, to no avail. The only way I was able to place the call was to pull the battery on the HTC EVO. This was quite frustrating, considering the state I was in just after the accident.

That all works just great, but I want to add them to a RadioGroup so only one button can be toggled at a time. When I tried to add the dynamic RadioButton to the RadioGroup AFTER I added it to the table row, I got an error saying that the child (the RadioButton) already had a parent. I agree, it does have one, the TableRow.
can you have radio buttons tied to a radio group inside of a row or, should I just code my own toggle mechanism and avoid RadioGroup all together? I mean, I could code the onClick to unclick all other radio buttons, but I would rather not do this if I can use the build in RadioGroup.

I have multiple radio buttons which I want to layout using a table but also include them in a single radio group. I have the following xml layout:

<TableLayout android:id="@+id/RadioButtons"
android:layout_width="wrap_content".........
But unfortunately the radio buttons inside the table seem to ignore the fact that they're inside of the RadioGroup tags and because of this you can select more than one radio button at the time. I noticed that by removing the table and just having the radio buttons it works just fine. How can I overcome this? Would it be as simple as declaring the radio group inside of the table instead of outside?
I turned on my Droid this morning to listen to MSNBC and I heard the last 5 minutes of Keith Obermann (5:55 am est) and then all of my news and talk channels disappeared! Channels like CNN, C-SPAN, MSNBC and NPR are all gone from my favorites and the channel line-up. There is nothing in the "News and Public Radio" category.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm thinking this must be a temporary glitch but I would hate to lose all of these channels. If you have the Sirius/ XM radio app, would you please check this on your Droid?

I just got my Droid but I frequently use Pandora and Last.FM on my computer at work. Last.FM - Seems like the service has a better list of artists than Pandora so i switched to it on my PC recently. On Android the service is the same but as an app it tends to be open in the background all the time and suffers from not being able to pause (like the PC version). The scrobbling could be nice for some users and it links to the android player. Sound Quality seems excellent, best of the three so far. Pandora - Haven't gotten to use it too much because it takes so long to load my station. Sound Quality seemed fine with my limited use.
Slacker Radio - Has the most music options of the three and seems likes the best application. It has plenty of options like keeping the screen from freezing while plugged in and on wifi without having to change your phone settings. Had to stop listening from poor sound quality though! Sound Quality started ok but a bassy boom and click started appearing after a few songs, forced to switch to Last.FM.
Does any one have any idea as to which countries Android supports interms of Emergency Number dialing. Is there a list of supported countries and emergency numbers? For example US has 911, Australia has 000 and there is also the international numbers 112.
How can we find out which numbers/countries are supported for emergency dialing?
Can i use an emergency charger that takes a single AA battery to charge my EVO. i realize that i will need a lot of batteries. but will it have any negative affects on the phone or not be able to put out enough power. On the upcoming HTC Desire or even current HTC Desire, suppose I'm listening to the lovely built in FM radio and I want to make a recording of a breakfast show; would that be possible? Is there a possiblity for an app to be created that could record the built in radio in this manner? What about recording in a better quality like mp3? Does Android need to provide API access to the output speakers or... I am not reffering to internet/streaming radio, this is about the built in FM radio found in the latest HTC smartphones.

My question is how to I delete or get rid of the current location weather data screen and have only the Corning NY screen when I open the weather app? The data for both is the same but I don't want 2 locations(one named) for the same data.

i have the lg thrive and it had the fastboot issue. i "fixed" it but now whatever i do it goes into emergency mode. i have already removed battery and put it back in(common sense) i have removed SD and SIM also. i also tried to hard reboot it(again common sense) but that doesn't work either, it just goes into emergency mode.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI don't know what to do. I tried to make a call this morning and it kept disconnecting, even though it was showing signal. So I decided to turn it off. This took over 15mins. Finally it went off. I switched it back on to find it will only make Emergency calls and I don't know why.
I've turned it off multiple times now, even taken the battery out etc and nothing works. Its been very slow the last couple of days, and frozen a couple of times. I've only had the phone 3 weeks from new (T-Mobile!)
Just hung up from a phone call, went to make another and nothing happening. phone was really slow, it re dialed previous call, then call i wanted to make and another call. Did a battery pull. Phone boots, but doesn't let me get to screen to unlock. Just loops by itself has dialer up , keeps trying to dial 8, gets error message, call not sent, 8 is not an emergency number. clicks ok by itself and trys again. I have wavesecure and lock code.Anyway possible to stop this and get in and break this up. I can't get to screen at all, i can't unpower it, if i try that it keeps doing this in airplane mode.
View 7 Replies View RelatedLet's start from first: I bought a t-mobile desire from someone. when I got it, it was rooted and an official htc middle east rom flashed on it (...and unrooted).Both seller and me have a local sim card (Not t-mobile) but it worked for him and not for me.It displays a "Limited Service", "Emergency Calls Only" message. when I search for operators it list my operator but when I choose that android can't register on it.
1. I rooted it again and flashed LeeDroid rom on it but no success
2. Seller did a hard reset before giving it to me (I guess it generated the problem)
3. Sim card is correct
4. Seller is not scam!
My wife brought up a good point the other day. In case of emergency, my phone couldn't be used to identify myself, or be used to contact her. This seems to be a major oversight on Googles part. When locked, all you can do is dial a number from the emergency screen. There is no option to call someone listed as an emergency contact. Leaving my phone unlocked is not an option.

Im wondering if I'm the only one or am is it just my phone? I've noticed that this phone can be a bit buggy at times! Note: I have not had the update done on this phone.
