Android :: Dumped XML Layout File Padding Positions Not Behaving Correctly

Dec 30, 2009

I've been trying to figure out how to make some sense of a dumped XML layout, and it's progressing 'pretty good'. The only thing I'm currently unsure about is the following:

When I use the command:

aapt dump xmltree <pathofapk> <pathofxmlfile>

I get the following result:

CODE:.............

That's all good, but what I'm trying to figure out is how to convert the following code into the XML layout file:

CODE:.................

Converting those values to decimal would result in:

CODE:.................

All good, but I've been trying to figure out what the (type 0x5 means). With all other types, the result is defined in the Android.util.TypedValue.class file

Decompiling that, gives the following result for 0x5:

CODE:...............

Makes sense, in a way. But, I need to know what kind of value it is, so looking down, I find the following value:

CODE:.............

But, when I try to use 2561mm and 1025mm (It's a tad much anyway, 25cm is.. larger than my screen), The whole screen is filled with the 'parent LinearLayout'.

Android :: Is Progress Bar Correctly Handling Padding-values

Mar 4, 2009

Here is a skeleton of the class I'm currently working on. Unfortunatly, i'm stuck on two problems and it's driving me mad !

The first problem is about the onKeyDown(KeyEvent) : I don't understand why this method isn't called while I pressed a key on the emulator. The second problem deals with padding. Indeed, I'm always creating widget using fake paddings in order to be sure my widget correctly handle those values. Unfortunatly, I tried to extend a ProgressBar and I had some problems because my ProgressBar is clipped.

My code is :

package com.niji.android.myhouse;
import android.content.Context; import android.graphics.Canvas; import android.graphics.Color; import android.graphics.Paint; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.util.AttributeSet; import android.util.Log; import android.view.KeyEvent; import android.view.MotionEvent; import android.widget.ProgressBar; Code...

Android :: Specifying Relative Positions In Layout?

Sep 30, 2009

I need to implement a screen containing a list of blocks one below the other. Each block will contain mutiple superimpose elements (Images, text) for which the relative position needs to be specified with respect to the top left corner of the block.

For creating the list of blocks i have used listview. For each block i tried to use relative layout.This works ok when the phone is in landscape mode and absolute position is specified relative to left edge of the phone. But when the phone is put in the portrait mode the layout gets distorted.

1) What layout can be used for this scenario?

2) Can relative positions be specified in terms of percentage of screen width/height instead of pixels?

Android :: Change Object Positions In Layout?

Jun 7, 2010

I'm currently working on a very simple aplication, and I intended to make it change the visual aspect depending on the screen size. The application just has 6 buttons like this:

I'm using the AbsoluteLayout, and changing the x and y of the buttons with the methods offsetLeftAndRight and offsetTopAndBottom. I'm not changing the layout of the buttons in the xml file, so the all start in the same place.

However, if I use this methods inside the onClickMethod they sometimes appear where I want them, sometimes don't (can't figure out why), but if i use them in the onCreate method, nothing happens.

Android :: Way To Completely Eliminate Padding In A Linear Layout Containing Buttons?

Nov 6, 2010

I tried the following to try to display two buttons in a horizontal linear layout, with the edges of the buttons flush with the border of the linear layout. To my surprise, I found that there is always still padding between the buttons and the left, right and bottom edges of the linear layout. Only the top edges of the buttons end up flush with the border of the linear layout. Why is that? And is there a way to control this behavior?
<Linear Layout android:orientation="horizontal"

Android :: Cannot Display Image Correctly Using Custom Item Layout In ListView

Apr 22, 2010

I am using a ListView to display my custom item layout, which may contain some TextViews and an ImageView.

This is the item layout I made (post_item.xml):

CODE:........................

I don't put the ImageView initially in the xml layout, but I will insert it when I need to the FrameLayout programmatically (I also put another views in it when needed). So, there will be some items which has ImageView in it and which don't.

I get the image to fill the ImageView from the Internet (through URL), decode it as Bitmap, and keep it as a Bitmap variable in a class represents the custom item layout (class PostItem).

When the activity shows for the first time it looks fine, but as I scrolled through the items then a problem showed up, the items which shouldn't show any image show the image from the other item which should, although they don't have any ImageView (because I didn't insert it).

I am using SDK 1.6 and the emulator. Haven't tried it in real device because I don't have it.

Here is my code for the Adapter:

CODE:..............

And this is the code to prepare the items:

CODE:.........................

Is this the bug in the emulator or there is some mistake in my code (probably memory problem for the Bitmap)?

Android :: Installation Unsuccessful - Package File Was Not Signed Correctly

Apr 6, 2009

I published my app on the market, and when I first tried installing it from there, I got the 'package file was not signed correctly' error. Uninstalling the unsigned version I was testing with let me install from the market with no problems. However, from the comments, it looks like no one else can install my application.

I've put other versions up that worked, and I used the same certificate, so I'm pretty sure it is not an issue with the validity days for the certificate.

The name of my application is Bloxors. It will be going up and down as I try to figure out what the issue is here, but if someone else who is getting the error can debug it it would be greatly appreciated.

LG Ally : ZVB Not Apply Correctly / Pull Info On Update From Downloaded File?

Oct 1, 2010

Firstly, just wanted to say everyone on this forum has been awesome! You all do great work and are extremely helpful!

Ok from Velocity 0.2 with Clockworkmod and V9 SW version I flashed the stock V6 Rom, then flashed stock recovery. got ota updates to V8 and then ZVB without any errors. SW Version on phone read VS740ZVB. I then rerouted, applied Clockworkmod recovery and installed Velocity 0.2 and then the GNMTurbo4 kernel. SW Version on phone reads VS740ZVB. Then another OTA update showed up. It claimed to be 24.9MB just like the ZVB update. Of course it would not install because I was using custom recovery.

My question is, what is this update? Is it the ZVB update coming through again? Did my ZVB update not apply correctly or is it not recognized by Verizon since I'm using custom recovery and rom? Is there a new update that I'm missing out on, and if so, what is it, and do I need to apply it?

Lots of questions, I know.Just wondering what exactly is going on and do I need to do anything about it? Is there any way to pull info on this update from the downloaded file, and if so, where can I find the file and how do I get info from it?

Android :: Extended ContentProvider Not Behaving Properly

Aug 25, 2010

I'm trying to implement a ContentProvider wrapped around an SQLite database.

I've followed the tutorial here in building my ContentProvider:tutorial

I want to test what I have; so I'm attempting to instantiate my new ContentProvider, retrieve a Cursor from the query handler, and attach it to my CursorAdapter. Currently, I'm doing this in the onCreate of my Activity (I know this is bad practice, I'm just testing, I will move it to a service eventually).

CODE:.....

When I launch my application, the onCreate method of my extended ContentProvider gets executed. The database helper object gets created, the database gets created, and the onCreate method returns true. However, when I try to use my ContentProvider (with the code above), in the open() method the database helper object gets created, but getWritableDatabase() returns null. Also, when I call open(), the reference to getContext() is null.

Note: everything else seems to be working fine. When I call query, it hits my query handler, recognizes the Uri and attempts to run my query code (which obviously blows up because the database object is null).

Here are my extended ContentProvider and database helper:

CODE:........

I'm wondering if I should somehow be referencing whatever instance of MessagesProvider was created when I launched the application, instead of declaring a new one (p) and using it?

I updated the onCreate code in my Activity to the following, but managedQuery returned null:

CODE:......................

Android :: ListView Focus Behaving Different When Using MinSdkVersion-3

Mar 15, 2010

A few days ago I was trying to fix this issue: I have a header (three ImageButton's) and a ListView. If I use the dpad, pressing DOWN to focus the ListView, the ListView shows as selected the seventh or eighth row, not the first one.

What I need to do is that the first element of the ListView get the focus (or selection) when I use the dpad, from another screen component, but instead, the seventh or eighth is selected.

I had minSdkVersion=3 in my manifest. When I changed it to minSdkVersion=4 it worked as expected (first row selected). Don't know why, but there is a difference between both.

Android : Ant Vs Eclipse / Build Methods Are Behaving Differently?

Mar 15, 2010

The Eclipse build for my 1.6 application project is succeeding and the Ant build is failing. I'm looking for help on why they aren't behaving the same way.

We are developing on Mac OSX 10.5.8 with Eclipse 3.5 against SDK 1.6 + Google APIs. There are no setting changes in Eclipse, either at workspace or project level. Similarly, our ant is also a vanilla- flavored unmodified installation of 1.7.1. JDK is 1.5.0_22. The CLASSPATH environment variable is not set. JAVA_HOME is /Library/Java/ Home

The application was initially created by a team member using the Eclipse plugins. The application references two jar files, one of which has a dependency on javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlSeeAlso, which is not defined anywhere in our code or in android.jar. The other jar file has an explicit dependency on android.jar. I generated the Ant build file using android update.

The Eclipse project builds an apk and runs the application in the emulator. I think this is incorrect behavior.

The Android project fails to build. I think this is correct behavior. MyClass.java:98: cannot access javax.xml.bind.annotation.XmlSeeAlso[javac] file javax/xml/bind/annotation/XmlSeeAlso.class not found

Any ideas as to why the two build methods are behaving differently? I would expect them both to fail.

Android :: How To Use XML File To Specify Layout?

May 13, 2010

I've been trying to create a Compound Control in Android 1.5 (as described here) but haven't been able to find any good examples on how to do this using an XML file to specify a layout. Create Custom Component based on LinearLayout, declaring layout in XMLI'm fine with creating an Activity and then loading an xml file using the following in the constructor:
setContentView(R.layout.main);
However, I want to do this in subclass of LinearLayout - so I can use this compound component in other XML layouts. Something along the lines of:

public class CustomView extends LinearLayout
{ public CustomView(Context context) {
super(context);
setupView();
} public CustomView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs)
{ super(context, attrs);
setupView();
} public void setupView() {
setContentView(R.layout.custom);
// Not possible } }
What is the correct way of going about doing this?
