Google Maps Displays Grey Tiles When Drawing Geopoints

Jul 20, 2012

I'm trying to create an app to plot our mountain bike trails on a Google map. I've got the Google map part working. However, once I try to plot a couple of geopoints and connect them it does displays the geopoints and connects them, but the Google map stops displaying. Only grey tiles show. Here is my code before I plot the points which works. import android.graphics.Canvas;

import android.graphics.Color;
import android.graphics.Paint;
import android.graphics.Paint.Style;
import android.graphics.Point;
import android.os.Bundle;

[Code]....

Then I change my code to this to plot and connect a couple of geopoint and it turns map tiles grey.

import java.util.List;
import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable;
import android.os.Bundle;
import com.google.android.maps.GeoPoint;
import com.google.android.maps.MapActivity;
import com.google.android.maps.MapController;

[Code]....

Android :: Google Maps Application - Tiles Not Loading

Jun 29, 2009

For some reason I cannot get my first maps application to work. I have gone though the full process of getting the MD5 fingerprint for the debug.keystore, registered for the key on the website, put it into the xml file. Even had changed my computer's locale to US English. I also signed the application with my private key and pushed it via ADB to the emulator. All attempts so far resulted only in the grey Google Maps background with the tiles not loading. JAVA_HOME environment variable points to my JDK file. Not sure what else I can do. Even upgraded from SDK 1.1 to 1.5. No improvement. I am really stuck here. I am running WIN XP, Eclipse ganymede, SDK 1.5 r2, with the latest ADT. Here is my class file code: package com.mellagio.maps; import com.google.android.maps.MapActivity; import com.google.android.maps.MapController; import com.google.android.maps.MapView; import android.app.Activity; import android.os.

Getting Grey Grid On Google Maps App

May 6, 2012

I created a google maps app. I have been using the debug md5 fingerprint to test my app as I built it. It worked fine. Now that I'm ready to publish, I'm having a problem with the nondebug md5 fingerprint I need to publish with. I'll go step by step with what I've done. I right click my app in eclipse, then go down to android tools > export signed application package. It pops up a window. I see my app name i hit next.

keystore selection> create new> C:AndroidAppMapKey> create passwords for it hit next.
Key creation> create my alias name.

Lets say mapalias> give it the same password as the keystore. Give it a validity of 1000> insert my name. hit next. destination and key/certificate check> C:AndroidAppMyGoogleMaps.apk > hit finished. After that i open up cmd, I'm on windows 7.

I type> keytool -list -v -alias mapalias -keystore C:AndroidAppMapKey -storepass mypass -keypass mypass. It generates the md5 code i need. I go to the website to register the md5 code. get the code i need to use on my android: apiKey="ofhsjfjfjmmmmmdnjjffmmf". Run it on the emulator and my phones. I get a grey screen with no map coming up.

Android :: Showing The Google Maps Reticle?

Sep 20, 2010

I'v encountered a problem with Google Maps on Android. In my app I have a location-chooser where the user navigates to his desired location to save the exact street location. In order for the user to actually see what street he is no (and not just the general area) I need to mark the middle of the map clearly.

The problem is that the reticle (the little circle marking the center) from Google Maps usually won't show. It appears at the most 1 out of 10 times I open the map, probably less. This happens regardless if I add other overlays or if I just show the map as is. I am aware of ReticleDrawMode and have tried setting it to DRAW_RETICLE_OVER, but this does not seem to work (and it should be the default already).

Have I missed something here? I have searched for the problem and from what I have see the problem seems to be common, but I havn't seen a solution for actually forcing it to always show, only for hiding it.

If the reticle is broken, does anyone have a good suggestion for how to create a custom one? As I said the the user will navigate the map, so I can't just do a normal overlay on a fixed point of the map, and the map also does not take up the full screen so drawing something over it is a bit ugly (although I guess that will be my last resort).

HTC Hero :: Google Maps Takes So Long To Update When Showing Directions / What's Wrong With It?

Aug 10, 2010

Since I installed (might just be a coincidence but I did update Maps via the market) 2.1, Google Maps takes so long to update when showing directions. For example I'll be in one street and have walked to another and it will still show me in the previous street after 30 seconds or so later. Also I noticed today when using it, that the arrow wouldn't move and just stays in one spot but the arrow does change direction though.

I could have sworn it wasn't like this before and I could just use it like a real gps unless I've overlooked something.

Also I get the "Current location temporarily unavailable" message all the time when searching my location unless I tick the Use Wireless Networks in the Location settings of the Hero. When I had 1.5, I didn't need to do this and just used GPS satellites.

What am I doing wrong here?

Android :: Android List View Background Colors Always Showing Grey

Sep 9, 2009

I have a ListView that I'm populating from a custom ListAdapter. Inside the Adapter (in the getView(int, View, ViewGroup) method) I'm setting the background color of the View using setBackgroundColor(int). The problem is that no matter what color I set the background to it always comes out a dark grey. It might also be worth noting that I'm using the Light theme.

Android : Can I Trigger Google Maps From Droid Browser?

Sep 30, 2010

I have a website designed for the android browser using jquery/jqtouch. As a part of it, i have a map page that loads. In the process of displaying my data, I found that some of my customer's addresses, when clicked kick of the google app map, with the data sent to it. It also seems to load and run a ton faster (as well as having all the benefits of navigation, etc).

So I've searched and searched, but am unable to "emulate" that built in function of kicking off the address. I've tried links with geo: and maps:, etc, but to none will open the installed app. Yet, just having a <li></li> item with an address, the browser will detect a "proper" address and open the app.

I don't care if i have to kick it off with javascript, or a href, it just has to be embedded in the html.

HTC Droid Eris :: GPS / Google Maps Not Working?

Jan 18, 2010

After working well for the first month or so, it looks like GPS is not working very well for me. I'm not sure what changed. I now, when using the locate feature in Google Maps, often find myself in the middle of the Pacific off the Social shore. I usually try to remain on land when possible, though. Or it my randomly 'telephonist' me a few hundred yards off in some direction, then I'm back withing seconds. But a lot of the time it's not able to really locate me well at all. I think the network locating is doing 'k', but GPS is failing pretty bad lately. The icon shows GPS working, and I try disabling and re-enabling it. But that doesn't help. Anyone else having issues with GPS accuracy? Any apps that can help 'fine-tune' the GPS?

Motorola Droid :: Google / GPS Maps Laggy?

I used the Droid/Google GPS over Christmas to get from Tx to Fla... smooth as butter. Satellite view of the route was amazing.Since then I've rooted with SMUpdater and installed the newest Google Maps, as well as SetCPU, running at 800,000.I used the GPS yesterday and though it worked great, it was a bit laggy, took a while to fill in with satellite view from time to time, especially if I tried to zoom in at any point.Is the rendering of the map reliant more upon the speed of the processor or upon the speed of the internet -- and could any of the updates or mods affected this/

HTC Droid Eris :: No GPS/BSOD In Google Maps

Jun 17, 2010

I.e.: 50% bug, dialer issues, no sound bug, 2.1 OTA update probs, etc. Despite this, I'm really liking my phone. One positive aspect out of all this has been that I've gone from knowing absolutely nothing about the ins and outs of the Android OS, to feeling really comfortable and relatively knowledgeable (I pick this stuff up quick). And I think I really like Android, arguably more than the iPhone OS.

One of the things that has worked very consistently is the GPS and maps functions. I've been using them together quite a bit and continue to marvel at how well the Maps and Navigator apps have worked with the GPS antenna. Anyone who's had a Verizon smartphone over the last few years (BlackBerry, Palm Pre) can probably feel me with the GPS _never_ working.

A few hours ago, I turned on the GPS antenna and loaded maps, and it took a far longer time than usual to lock on to my location in an area it has found me in with no problem before today. Eventually (a couple of minutes probably), it displayed my little blue triangle avatar, but the background went completely blue. It stayed blue as I zoomed in and out, quit maps, force closed the app, reset the phone both by powering down and by pulling the battery, uninstalled and reinstalled from the store, and disabling all the "labs" buttons. I might have done a couple other things I don't recall, but I think that covers it.

Also, trying the GPS in the only other app I use with GPS--Weather Bug--didn't yield any results either. It was updating the data, but not the location. I haven't downloaded/installed any apps for a couple of days.
