In my current app, if the string is too long and doesn't fit into screen it gets cut. How to display rolling text for long strings in a spinner(i have seen that in some apps)?

In Android, capturing date from datepicker and storing as string in sqlite. Sorting by date doesn't work because they're strings (unless I'm doing it wrong.I've googled this issue for ~5 days, and it looks like there should be a way to capture the date from the date picker, convert it to a Long, store it in sqlite as a Long, select and sort on the Long date value, then convert the Long back to a "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display. I've tried various combinations of parse statements, Date, FormatDate, etc. with no luck at all.On activity start, get today's date and display it in button which calls the datepicker.Capture new date from datepicker (if one is entered), save it as a long to sqlite.On opening an activity showing a listview of records, select from sqlite with orderby on date (Long), convert Long to "mm/dd/yyyy" string for display in ListView.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a pretty simple question, but I am still hammering my brain with finding an elegant solution.
I have a spinner filled with an array defined as xml resource:
<string-array name="distances"> <item>item1</item> <item>item2</item> </string-array>
Whenever I close the application I save the selected string of the spinner in a database. E.g. I save "item1".
On application restart I now want to reload the spinner with the previous selection. Therefore I read "item1" from the db and now have to somehow lookup the position of it and there I am stuck. An additionalproblem is that the array might have changed from the time where the data was saved to the db.
I want to add String values in spinner at run time. My problem is that the value is not available in res file. Can some one tell me how can i do it ? I just want to insert one String array or simple String run time in Spinner.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm getting a server response back in ddms,But I'm finding that ddms logs only show about the first 50 lines of the response,then cuts everything else off, which isn't very helpful,since it means I can't see any of the useful info. I don't have much control over the content of the response it's a standard Django debug page, i.e. quite long. Does anyone know how I can get ddms to show the whole thing?

But that also truncates the string at approximately that length. I tested the link in my browser and it does return the complete JSON. So I am sure the issue is with my code in android.

View 4 Replies View RelatedActually i have keep on scrollview inside that scroll view i set one textview at run time i want to set text in that textview.The string which i m going to set is some what big in length so i could not get the string in a single line and i can get my string two or three lines .My scroll view layout width size is 250px.I don't want to exceed that size...My expectation is i want to see that string within that scrollview as single line if the string is exceeds the scroll size then it should horizontally scroll in text view.I tried some functions like setting horizontal scroll to scrollview and textview but nothing is work out.

On my device (Motorola Milestone) and in the emulator this looks like the standard gray spinner widget.
On of my colleagues uses a Motorola Backflip and on his device the Spinner is black. Now its very hard to read the font in the spinner.
What do I have to do to use my own view for the spinner? I don't mind to have the gray spinner on all devices, but it should always look the same on all devices.

I have a spinner 'aperture' set up with a list of numbers, and a spinner 'mode' with two options. When a button is pushed I need a calculation to run using various inputs, including the current selection from 'aperture' and a value derived from 'mode'. How do I call the value of a spinner so I can use it in a calculation?
Also, how do I use the spinner 'mode's selection to set this other value before implimenting it in the calculation? To be more specific, if the spinner is set to Small then the value I use in the calculation is 0.015, whereas if Large is selected I need to use 0.028
My other inputs are EditText views, so right now I am set up like this:

That is not the actual equation, it is just a test to make sure everything connects properly. How would I call the value of spinner 'aperture' and the Small/Large spinner 'mode'
I have a spinner widget in my activity which lets users pick a list name.
Normally, the function of the spinner is to switch between lists but for a couple of instances, I swap out the selection change listener to perform a different function with the same list of options. Once the selection has been made, the old listener is restored and life goes on.
This is a bad and buggy arrangement. Instead, I would like to have a function that just takes a selection listener and some other parameters and shows a popup list that's populated by the same cursor (or and identical cursor) as the spinner, without using the spinner itself.
Is there any way I can do this?

what is intriguing me is that the first spinner onitemselection works perfectly ( I can see the values in LogCat) then when I change selection of the 2nd spinner I am gettging an error on this line: String selected= (String) s2.getSelectedItem(); So the compiler gets insisde then onItemSelected function of the 2nd spinner but throws an Handler exceltion on s2.getSelectedItem()
why? it works perfectly for the 1st spinner.
I have the localized strings file that is used in the Iphone app that I work on to port to Android. Are there any tools that go through the file taken from the xcode project and build the xml needed to use the strings in android? This tool should be easy to build but I appreciate any pointers to already working tools.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have preferences where you can enable/disable what items will show up on the menu. There are 17 items. I made a string array in values/arrays.xml with titles for each of these 17 items.
I have preferences.xml which has the layout for my preferences file, and I would like to reference a single item from the string array to use as the title.
In the Android developer reference, I see how I can reference a single string with XML, but now how I can reference a string from an array resource in XML.
Can anybody give me some clue that how to convert binary string into a string(english). I have tried and googled so much but couldn't find an answer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, when playing audio using MediaPlayer in an Android 2.2 emulator, the audio seems to be getting the last 5-10% cut off. I'm using the exact same code from previous API's, with just what is below for mp3 playback. I changed the API level of my app to 2.2 for external storage, but the app still runs perfectly on any emulator using <=2.1 and on my Moto Droid.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to play a 0.1s tone using audio track. I have done this succesfully in stream mode by calling play() then writing the array of short containing the data. However when I use STATIC mode and also in stream mode if I write the data before i call play() only about 0.06s of the audio is played. I have tried changing the buffer size but this has not effect.My understanding is that I have to write the data before I call play for static mode to work. Does anyone know what could be going wrong here?

It started on a call and got so bad I ha to switch to the handset. it also did it playing MP3s right off the phone. This was a $90 motorola unit. So I took it back and picked up a nice Jabra for about $80 (just showing these aren't cheap units). I have not used the Jabra for a call yet, but the music cuts in and out for a few seconds every minute or so. Phone was in the holster on my hip so it wasn't a distance issue, the music is stored on the phone so it isn't a bandwidth thing.

I'm on my second Hero (first one had touch screen problems galore). I love my phone but I'm reduced to using it for email and text as I haven' t got the energy to fight with T Mobile again....
