Android :: Default Media Button Application

I wonder whether there is a concept in Android that allows a user to define which application should be launched if a headset media button is pressed..? This would be something similar as the concept of a "default browser" or "default e-mail application" that is launched when a website should be opened or a mail needs to be sent. As far as I know such a concept at least exists for a browser on Android. Is there something like a "default media player" that is started when the user hits the headset's play button? If so, how could my application inform the system that it is a potential candidate for the "default media player" application?

After using the Sennheiser CX300 with it's asymmetrical cord (one longer than the other) that goes behind the neck (or J cord), I simply cannot go back to the symmetrical even length Y cord. Now that I have an Android phone, it'd be great if I could get a quality pair of asymmetrical cord earbuds with a media button. I bought the Sennheiser MM50 iP which looked like clones of the CX300 with a media button, but just like the reviews said, they broke within months (cable shorts out at the jack). I'm sending them back for warranty repair, but it'll only be a matter of time before they break again (which is strange because my CX300s are practically bulletproof). Anyone have recommendations for in-ear earbuds with a media button and asymmetrical cord?

I am new here been lurking since seeing the droid. Great community here btw. I got my droid friday morning and love it great phone and my 1st android device,coming from a centro.I have a question about the default video player. I bought the act 1 video player because it says it can be used as the default video player but I have no idea how to set it up as the default. I use orb to stream live tv to my phone the default player just doesnt cut it.The act 1 player does a much better job playing the movies I have loaded on the sd card, so I would think it would do better on streaming as well. When I open the stream from orb it opens in the default player. It runs ok for a few mins but quality is not what it should be, on my centro it was better with kinoma player.

If I receive a sms or mms I want to send that to email but i don't want any notification on phone.
So basically I want to replace the default messaging application.

Does anybody have the default ringtones for the Mytouch, or I suppose any Android phone would be the same, but does anyone have them? And the SMS tones? That would be great if you could upload them. But While I've got the thread open, how about everyone post their favorite ringtones or SMS tones, any good ones out there?

what the default behaviour of the back button is, as far as the Android platform is concerned.
For example, in the Contacts Application, if I am creating a contact, I just key in a name, and the press back button, the contact is saved with only the name. Fair enough. But, I then edit this contact to include a phone number and press back button. This contact is updated which now includes the phone number. I again edit this contact. This time I remove the name, as well as the phone number and press the back button. I get a message saying, "Contact doesn't exist". In this case, it deletes the contact. :(
In the mail appllication, while composing, when I press back, it goes to the drafts folder. Thats good. But, if I just have to cancel this, and I don't want this to go to drafts folder. For this, I have to open the menu, and select "Cancel".

I've been using a couple of different methods recently trying to sync music on my desire, nothing has worked properly for me, windows media player, itunes sync, doubletwist and even htc sync 3.0 wont do the job.I was using album artwork grabber then to get missing artwork.So i deleted all my music from my desire and started from scratch and just dragged and dropped all the music files to it.This is working great except loads of my album artwork has been mislabelled with a completly different one. Every song has artwork, there is none with the default green logo which used to be there before I'm certain on these songs. But now they all have this other album cover, it's like it's replaced the default music icon cover.I tried clearing the media application data and it rebuilt the library, but it's still the same.

I want to use a Button in my android app but I want to customize how it looks. However, I want the highlight and selected colors of the button to be the same as the default colors (i.e. the dark and light orange gradients, or whatever the theme color supplies).Is there anyway to get the default highlight/selected drawables and to use that as the fill for my buttons on the selected and highlighted states?

I created a MUSIC folder on my SD card for all my mp3s. However, the music player also picks up the voices from Sygic mobile maps which are on the root of the SD card. Can I get my Desire to ONLY look in the music folder I created and ignore everything else? Same thing happens with my photo folder.

I had to do a factory reset on my Eris. Kept getting the "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly" error and nothing but the reset worked. I "lost" my ringtone app and I SWEAR I saw somewhere that Eris had a default ringtone maker app so there was no need to DL one. Can someone point me in that direction, or am I loosing my mind?

I am trying to remove an ImageButton's background in only the default state. I'd like the pressed and selected states to behave as usual so that they look correct on different devices, which use different colors for the pressed and selected states.
Is there any way to set an ImageButton's background default state's drawable without affecting the pressed and selected states?
I've tried to do this with a selector, but it does not appear to allow you to use the default drawables for some states - you have to set all the states yourself. Since there's no API to retrieve the device's default pressed/selected drawables, I don't know what to set the pressed/selected states to.
I also tried getting the StateListDrawable object for the button that the system creates when you are not using a selector and then modify it change the default state. That didn't work either.
I seems that on Android, if you want to change the drawable for one state of a button, then you must set all the states, and thus cannot preserve the default drawables for the other states. Is this correct?

I keep all of my music and podcasts (which i copy/paste manually from my computer) on the internal storage.The last 2 weeks when I copy/pasted my new podcasts over for my regular 5 hour weekend drive, the podcasts dont show up anywhere in the default media player. I have to use Astro to find the file and select it from there. What am I doing wrong/how do I fix this?

So, having lost my beloved G1 and having been told by my insurance that it was discontinued, I received an HTC Hero/G2 Touch in the post this morning, and I'm having serious issues with getting my custom notification tone to work.
I have placed the desired .mp3 file in media->audio->notifications, and it does indeed show up on my notification list in the settings menu. I have selected it, and it displays a lovely little green dot by its name.
HOWEVER. Every time I get a text, it still plays the stupid default tone. I've powered the phone on and off multiple times, deleted and re-copied the file, and yes, even tried applying it using the much-applauded Ringdroid app. The results are always the same. I can get it to show up. I can select it. I can, by all appearances, get it to set as my notification tone. But I can't make it sing "HAHAHAHA TRUMPETS" on cue as desired. I had no issue getting this same file to work on my G1 and am at a complete and utter loss.

I have installed open home as my main screen replacement and last time I was in the menu option I selected the default button to Open Home. So now when I click the home screen I dont get the options to switch between Open Home, HTC's standard and or ahome etc. How do I remove the default setting?

Wotcher all, I've had my HTC "Hero" (daft name) for about a week now and since the first few days after I'd installed a few apps, when I long-press the Home screen button, the list of last-run apps appears as expected, however the TouchFlo app (or the Home app if I'm experimenting with stock android) also appear in this list. The next time I use the Home button it gives me the choice of using Home or TouchFlo and setting one of them as the default. I hit the "use as default" button and hit TouchFlo and all is well again. However as soon as I use a long-press of the Home button again, the phone forgets the default setting and reverts to asking me which one of Home or TouchFlo I want to use as the default action for Home button presses.Does anyone know a fix for this? I've gone into App Manager and unset all the defaults, but that's had no effect. I am living with it by just not using the long-press of the Home key, as long as I avoid that the phone remembers to use TouchFlow as the default action for Home presses. I've also tried switching to using the stock Android Home app instead of HTC's but still get the phone forgetting the default when I use the long-press of Home.

I do not have a refresh button on my htc hero default web browser. A lot of people are stating it is on "menu" then the bottom left button but my bottom left button is "bookmarks" and no option to refresh page.

I Just installed the Dolphin browser instead of Steel as I was using before. So uninstalled Steel, but have a little problem now. When I press the search button on my home screen and search for anything, it opens the default browser and searches, and not Dolphin. How do I change this? Thought it would ask for which app it needed to execute the order with, as it did at other places it would go online, but not here. Has been in the manage applications and delete the default browser to be default, and inside settings in the dolphin browser and the check it to be default, but it does not work.

I would like to know if anyone has figured out a way to make Pandora come up when I press the Music Notes on the stock multimedia dock interface on the Moto Droid (2.2 FRG22D).Right now the music application comes up and this does not help me as I don't have any music loaded on the phone.

This is technically a Win7 question, but much related to Android. On my older Android devices, when connected to PC via USB for file transfer, they would "mount" the SD card as a standard disk drive within Windows. On my newer Android devices, however, they instead connect the device to Windows as a "portable media player." This is fine, except for one thing which really irks me. Every time the portable media player director structure comes up, it is displayed as giant icons. If I change it to "list" or "detail" view within Windows, there are two big problems:
- it doesn't stick (i.e. I'll reconnect later and it will be back to giant icon view)
- it doesn't apply recursively to all subfolders
With regular Win7 file explorer (i.e. for disk drives), it is really easy to set a default folder view for all disk drives on the whole system, and it will stick forever, and apply to all subfolders on every drive. Is it possible to do the same thing with portable media players?

I use headphones with a media control button.When I'm listening to last.fm and I hit the media button the music player starts up.Is there a solution where i can disable the media intent button just for the default music player and not for anything else.I've downloaded an Ali file that disabled all media button functionality but that's not what i want.

I have handcent and when I click on my message icon, it asked me what I wanted to set as a default. I don't believe I clicked anything and went about my business. I read that if I set my handcent as my default, when I click my message icon, it will bring up handcent. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling to get that box to pop up, but it won't. What do I need to do so that I can access my handcent through my message icon?

I'm coding an app that works with the current status of the Android Media Player, basically, I'm trying to find a way to obtain, for example, the current track information or the track next on the library/playlist. Thing is, I couldn't find any way to "connect" to the app, I read about some services and copying an Android MP file to my project and so on, but I just wanted to check if there's another way such as a content provider.
