Feb 5, 2010

I am able to display multiple overlayItems on Googlemap, now I want to change icon of any specific overlayItem (to show it is currently selected event). I want to do it through navigation buttons (next, previous) as on Google maps.

I am using StateListDrawable to display icons for OverlayItems. code...

Now my question is how do I change the state of any overlayItem/Icon on map when user click on one of navigation keys?

Android :: How To Save State During Orientation Change?

Oct 12, 2010

I was looking at the way Android handles orientation change for my application (I discovered that it restarts the mainactivity on orientation change :| ). I've seen that you can ovveride the method protected void onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState)to save stuff, then have the in onStart. The problem is that I've my view with custom objects and a listview using a custom adapter... Everything is in a ArrayList of these objects, but I've noticed that you can't put arbitrary objects in the bundle! So how do I save the state?

Android :: MVC Model State Change Requires Creating An Intent?

Apr 9, 2009

I have a main activity class that launches a couple of my subordinate activities from a tabHost.

Periodically (actually when I receive an incoming message on a socket), I want to inform the subordinate activities that application state has changed so that they can refresh their views.

In Swing I could wire this together using something like a PropertyChangeListener. As far as I can see, the Android design philosophy requires creating an Intent and broadcasting to (as far as I can tell all) other activities that are running.

This strikes me as overkill considering that I'm only trying to notify my own views of a model change. Am I missing something?

Android :: Googlemap Out Of Memory

May 17, 2010

I made an android application with googlemap api, and draw some 16x16 png (about 200 count) on overlay. When I move or zoom on/in mapview, "out of memory" error occurs very often.

I also used the googlemap appication in my htc itself. Seams that it uses about 14+MB memmory, and never happens "out of memory".

How to save memmory usage in a googlemap api, or how to enlarge android api memmory limit.

Android :: Changing Displayed State Of Views Based On Parent ViewGroup's State

Aug 11, 2010

I have a compound UI component built up from a ViewGroup containing a number of TextView, ImageView etc. components. Many of these have StateListDrawables as their images/backgrounds. Is there any way of making them select from this drawable based on the state of the parent ViewGroup rather than the component itself? Ideally I want to be able to change the visual state of all children of the ViewGroup (text colour, image etc) based on the state of the ViewGroup, preferably without having to hook up complex logical code. This seems like a fairly common sort of requirement, so I was hoping it would be straightforward in Android - am I going to be disappointed?

Android :: App Working But GoogleMap Not Coming

If I send any updated location, the new location also getting picked (showing toast) and able to animate to new point. I'm working behind a firewall (proxy enabled). - App is showing the MapView but background is Grey with line-Grids (not real google maps visible) - Proxy is working fine. What can be the reason for actual maps not getting visible? Do we need to get access 'enabled' for any kind of URL (which might getting blocked by firewall)?

Android :: Phone State Listener State Transitions

Feb 8, 2009

I'm a little confused by what I'm seeing with regards to phone state transitions via the PhoneStateListener. When I receive a call, this is what happens: (call comes in) RINGING -> IDLE (I pick up) OFFHOOK (I hang up) IDLE It's that first transition from RINGING to IDLE without any interaction from me (not ending the call, not answering the call) that confuses me. Do I really have to implement an idle counter to know that an incoming call has really ended? Seems like the reported phone state represents some sort of phone state that isn't the obvious one.Is this a bug or am I just not in tune with the paradigm here?

Android :: When Do I Update OverlayItem List?

Jun 24, 2010

From everything that I've seen and have been reading, I'm apparently supposed to add all my OverlayItems in the constructor, then call Populate().The problem I have conceptually, is that if I'm pulling these items from a database (fed by a web site), then when exactly do I update the items? Also, it seems to me that it's a waste of resources to feed it all the items in advance instead of the ones pertaining to the current location... This seems to be the perfect case to use a ContentProvider, but I don't see anything indicating that one can be used with either ItemizedOverlay or anything else related to the Google Maps API.

The drawback of floating activity window is that if want to click another marker, user has to dismiss the current window first.

Android : After Removing OverlayItem Tap Events Are Still Trigger / Fix?

Oct 27, 2010

I have a simple overlay for a Google Map: http://pastebin.com/Rg8miMSh and I add/remove items on it depending on the zoom level. After removing/adding I call populate on the overlay and invalidate on the map view. Everything works just fine, except 1 glitch: after an item was removed, if I tap its location onTap is still triggered and because the OverlayItem is not there anymore i get java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException in com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay.maskHelper(ItemizedOverlay.java: 562) (full stack trace - http://pastebin.com/KThn4ZLE )

Anyone knows why this is happening or how to fix it? Initially i called clear and added all items all over again which didn't seems to cause this problem. However having many items this was becoming a performance issue. Adding/removing only the difference works much faster and I would like to keep this method.

GoogleMap Resets And Stops Responding?

Jan 27, 2013

I am working on an app that uses a GoogleMap and lots of overlays/markers. Controls and navigation is handled automatically (no direct user interaction with the map needed so far).

Things work the way I want right until the app pauses and goes into the background. When I resume the app the map has zoomed out to 0:0 and it doesn't react to animateMap or anything anymore. I can't seem to figure how I get it back to the state where it doesn't react to user interaction and actually updates with my markers and stuff..

Below are the three methods handling the map, and it doesn't seem to react on any of it after a resume.

Android :: Display Simple Text Label / Description Bubble When User Taps On OverlayItem In MapView?

Dec 29, 2009

I would like to further annotate the custom markers I have placed on a MapView (using ItemizedOverlay) by displaying a simple text label that appears for a particular item when the onTap event is fired.

This is a trivial exercise in the Google Maps JavaScript API and in MapKit on iPhone, but it is not obvious to me what the best or easiest way to do this is on Android.
