I've noticed some big stability issues with this as sometimes the program crashes totally (not just ANR, but a segfault type thing). What's the recommended number of maximum simultaneous connections for speed and stability?

Apr 29, 2010I am attempting to write an application which will require the user to press, at maximum, four "buttons" (ie regions of the screen) at any one time. I have been looking at the multitouch capabilities of the SDK versions > 5, the MotionEvent.getPointerCount() appears to return the number of presses detected on the screen. *What is the maximum number of presses this function will ever return?*
I went digging through the android source code for the MotionEvent class, and couldn't deduce anything from that, I am wondering if the maximum number of presses is heavily hardware dependent? I modified the MultiTouchVis code by Robert Green (from Battery Powered Games) to report the number of presses reported by MotionEvent.getPointerCount() each frame and on my Milestone it consistently reports a maximum of 2 presses. Is this a hardware thing, or does the sdk limit it to 2 presses?
Is there any way to register more than 2 presses at a time? I'm making a musical application and would like the user, for example, to be able to play chords by pressing multiple keys at any one time.

Oct 20, 2010I am working with a ListView, custom adapter and a large number of items. I read in a book for Android that is was more efficient to use what it called the holder pattern. That is to create a wrapper class for each view in the list view that cached the objects in the view so as to avoid calls to findViewById because those are supposed to be expensive. My question is what is better? To have 50,000 objects GC'd every time the user scrolls or to make the 4 or five calls to findViewById per view? Below is my implementation of what the book suggested.

Android :: Optionsmenu In An TabActivity For A Specific Tab
Aug 4, 2010I have got a TabActivity, which has 4 Tabs right now. The first Tab is a special Details-Tab, where the user could modify some data.
The problem is, that if I add a OptionsMenu for the Activity, that the OptionsMenu is appearing on every Tab.
I tried to check the current mTabHost.getCurrentTabTag() in the onCreateOptionsMenu but that changed nothing.
So, how to do that?

Jun 27, 2010I have a ListView with a scrolling issue. The Array contain a large number of items. When I try to scroll down, the listview displays the first items again. For example, if the initial view shows 12 items and I scroll down to view the next three, instead of showing 4 through 15, if shows 4 through 12 followed by 1, 2, and three. Debugging the Adapter reports that getView return 4 through 15 just as I would expect.

Sep 23, 2010Im using a custom listView with a Title and a Subtitle where you can read a brief explanation of the item.
For each item on the list, im displaying an alertDialog to select an option (different for each case). When the option is selected, i want to change the Subtitle for the option selected by the user.
This is what i tried:

For the first item on the list it works fine, when i select an option, the subtitle get replaced by that option, but when i make a selection in the alertDialogs of the other 2 items, the option selected replaces the subtitle of the first item!
Android :: Drag Items Around In A ListView To Change Their Order?

Dog
Mouse
And these are bound to the ListView via an adapter to a database.
What I want to be able to do is to be able to re-order the list view,. For example I want to somehow drag "Mouse" up to the top of the list above "Cat". Once I have an order set, I then want to "save" the list and its order back to the database.
Is there any way to do this? Has someone made such a custom ListView that I could use? The only alternative I can think of is to long press on a list view item and have a "Move up by one", "Move to top", etc. context menu that moves items around in the list.

I've added another value to the THUMBS_IDS and IMAGE_IDS Integer arrays in the Wallpaper class for a total of four wallpaper options.
When I run the application with Device API version 7, Skin: HVGA, hw.lcd.density: 160, in portrait layout, the fourth wallpaper option is not shown.
I need to use the directional keys in the emulator to see the 4th wallpaper option, because the first option is centered.
I have modified only the wallpaper.xml file with a variety of android:layout_* options with no success at this point.
How do I show all four of my wallpaper options?

Jul 21, 2010Had no problem getting my phone to play nice with our exchange server at work and emails are coming/going fine.
However, there are some configuration items I have a big issue with as it relates to the 'look' of the email (coming from a BlackBerry).
1. Is there any way to have a single folder show my received items and sent items combined? My BB had this and it was very useful.
2. How can I edit the way my folders are displayed at the top horizontal bar? The sidescrolling folder display is awkward, it puts my inbox first (good) but then all subsequent folders are listed alphabetically; it pays no attention to their order on my desktop and also shows sub-folders of other files. Any way to change this?
3. Is there a way to change the way emails show as unread? The difference b/n read and unread is only a shade of grey, and difficult to see outside.
