Android :: Change ImageView After Few Seconds / Solution For That?
Sep 18, 2010
I'm trying to implement a simple activity that will let user to insert a password.
I've a gridview with the 9 images to use and 4 imageviews that will be the selected images (on clicking on item on gridview, the corresponding image will be filled with the selected one).
Now the problem: I want that the 4 imageviews acts similar to password fields: for 1 seconds appears the selected item and then another image...
I tried using asyncthread but I got and error: Only the original thread that created a view hierarchy can touch its views
Here my code...

I download some data from internet in background thread (I use AsyncTask) and display a progress dialog while downlaoding. Orientation changes, Activity is restarted and then my AsyncTask is completed.I want to dismiss the progess dialog and start a new Activity. But calling dismissDialog sometimes throws an exception (probably because the Activity was destroyed and new Activity hasn't been started yet).What is the best way to handle this kind of problem (updating UI from background thread that works even if user changes orientation)? Did someone from Google provide some "official solution"?

I am working on changing the image being shown when I have my ImageView Clicked. I am trying to use a similar code that I used for accomplishing this with a TextView but I can't seem to find the right terms to get it to work. Here is my current code:
electronconfiguration.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View drawable) { if (drawable.equals(R.drawable.element_el))
electronconfiguration.setImageDrawable(R.drawable.aluminum_el);
else if (drawable.equals(R.drawable.aluminum_el))
electronconfiguration.setImageDrawable(R.drawable.element_el);
} } );

I have an ImageView that contains a bitmap. Now the bitmap can change size within a known range. This makes the surrounding views to relocate which I want to prevent. I've tried setting margins and padding for the ImageView but without success.

There is first an ImageView (the light) and then two textViews. All of this inside a TableLayout. (source here: http://code.google.com/p/switchctrl/source/browse/trunk/android/res/layout/device_switch.xml)
I want to have a rotating animation of a loading indicator Ontop of this light when this particular device (light) performs an action or an action is performed on it.
How do I put an animation ontop of this light imageview?

The closest example of what i want to accomplish is the "Engadget" widget. It updates it's data from the internet every 5-10 minutes and "scrolls" to the stories every 5-7 seconds. I imagine it sets the 5 -10 minutes interval to the widget's provider to call the onUpdate without the inbuild limitations , something like that. AlarmManager alarms = (AlarmManager) getApplicationContext().getSystemService(Context.ALARM_SERVICE); alarms.setRepeating(AlarmManager.ELAPSED_REALTIME, SystemClock.elapsedRealtime(), updateRateSeconds * 1000, newPending);
Then the real issue.. to update the widgets content without calling onUpdate....................

I'm using traceview to identify bottlenecks in my app. If I use the emulator, everything works fine. But when the device is used, no matter how long I run the app, traceview only gets the initial 5 seconds of my session and nothing more. I also noticed an error message in the console: Traceview: (<unknown>:10301): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple times. Have you ever experienced this problem?

To be able to do some accurate calculations that I want for my app, I need to be able to get an accelerometer reading every 100ms. I haven't found a way to do this on android, it seems like the only way to get accelerometer readings is to put a listener that can listen at different intervals. Basically, is there a way to get a reading at exact intervals?

This is weird and hopefully only a Moto Droid or local tower problem.
There is a difference of 15 seconds between my Droid's idea of time and UTC/GMT. This supposedly can't happen as cellular communications rely on 10ms accuracy and the Droid internal clock is set by cell towers.
I'm looking for some other Moto Droid developers to take a look and report if there is any time offset in their area. I've written a test app and posted source and apk at http://a9k.net/#droid . There is a screen shot there. It's very basic - show internal time (both System.currentTimeMillis() and Calendar.getInstance()) and show web page at www.time.gov.
Another simple test is to compare the phone's time to a computer that is synchronized to a net time server. You'll need to check seconds or watch for a whole minute. The minutes will not be equal from 45-59 seconds UTC.
The repercussions of an error in setting the internal clock could be extensive. Then again maybe Verizon towers here are whacko in MT?

I have an extended dialog class that I want to show for 3 seconds then disappear.This works great the first 2 times it's called, but then it crashes my app after that.Admittedly, I'm not the best with threads and I think that's where my problem might be.As you can see from the code below (commented out section), I tried using a cancel event to kill the thread that is spawned, but that makes it crash the first time it's run. I've also tried doing all of this on the parent class' UI thread which yields the same result as this (crashes after 3 times displaying the dialog).

I am facing a weird behavior these days with my new HTC legend. My ringer volume gets muffled automatically after 5 or 10 sec on getting a call. I have already disabled "quiet ring on pick up" feature. Then also this problem is coming up. I have googled this n come to know that i am not the only one. Some folks have found a workaround that if they choose "WCDMA only" network in network settings then this problem is not there. But I don't have 3G connectivity in my area. What should I do? I have note down the logs just after this problem. It shows some errors:-
W/CallNotifier(144)
CallerInfo query took too long,manually starting ringer
CallerInfo query took too long,falling back to default ringtone
E/jBtlAgHandler(144)
"JBtlAG context is disabled"
E/BT HS/HF(144)
mjBtlAgHandler.sendRing() failed

Not sure where to put this one folks but here goes. I loaded HTC Sync to my PC the other day and ever since the hourglass pops up about every 4-5 seconds on my computer. It's like there's a process that keeps starting up and shutting down and it's screwing with my PC like no other. Well, using Task Manager, I was finally able to track it down to a process called "FsynSrvStarter.exe". Took me forever to figure it out b/c it only displayed for a fraction of a second, then disappeared again. Once I got enough the name to do a Google search, I found a few forums where it had been identified as a glitch within the HTC Sync software. I had just done a Windows update and was attributing it to that!
Bottom line, I had to uninstall HTC Sync in order to rid my machine of the problem which was fine b/c I really loaded it for the drivers anyway. Just wanted to get this out there for others who might be experiencing this issue. I'm not sure if it's specific to Windows version or not but I'm running XP32 SP3.
