Android :: Cell Towers & 6 Hour Battery Life?

Sep 18, 2010

Got a really strange problem. I am in Vietnam using MobiFone service. About 3 months ago something changed overnight and my battery went from 20 hours to just a 6 hour battey life. After a week I did a factory reset but the same. Took it to HTC in Saigon to be tested but they said no problem YET when I was there battery lasted longer. The problem was in only in Can Tho where I live UP to this month when the problem is now in Long Xuyen. I travel, to Cambodia a lot and usally when I leave Can Tho Battery life is better. I am now in Cambodia and battery life is 40 hours on a CamShin SIM. For a test in Can Tho I went to a phone shop and used a Vinaphone SIM for an hour and got a 40 hour life. This is a joke! Is there any application that can control the Radio or at least tell me what's going on? I tried a few but they do not say anything different between Vietnam or Cambodia. MobiFone did something but refuse to tell me anything. Back of my G1 with 1.6 is cool now but in Vietnam back of phone is very warm. Tried to reflash the Radio but phone will not let me. I rooted but still it will not let me. think I must load a new recovery program.

HTC EVO 4G :: 10 Hour Life - Graph Of Battery Usage

Jun 2, 2010

I propose that we all post our battery life graph like the one I am about to post below. This way we can look at these claims in scrutiny, and perhaps figure out why it is that some people's Evos seem to last longer than others. Here is a graph of my Evo's Battery Charge over 1 day:

Wake up at 7:30am to disconnect the charger, listen to Pandora on the car to work until I arrive at 8am. Idles until lunch time at 12pm. Use the Evo to read up on some news at lunch until 1:30pm. Listen to Pandora while working until 5pm. Drive home while listening to Pandora in the car. Battery starts giving warning indications while driving, and phone dies when I get home at 6pm. Very usual day, and matches what the battery charge graph shows. The top apps of the day are:

System Processes contains mediaserver (2.4% due to Pandora), akmd (0.3% accelerometer polling), and everything else is <0.1%. As you can see I barely used my phone during the day for anything but Pandora. So based on my data, I'd say that the normal battery life for the Evo is under 10 hours. My settings are: no 4g, no wifi, no bluetooth, yes gps, yes bckgrnd data, auto brightness, no live wallpaper, yes taskmanager (ATK, set to "safe" setting. Will probably get rid of this..), no friend stream, no flickr.

I'd love to see other people post up their Battery Usage graphs as well. The App used is "SystemPanel App / Task Manager", available for free in the market. Go into Settings and allow it to Monitor. The screenshots were made by ShootMe, also available in the market.

HTC Incredible :: 90 + Hour Standard Battery Life Achieved

May 16, 2010

The purpose of this discussion is to talk about how applications and usage settings have an impact on standby time. I think we can *all* agree that our Incredible spends more time in idle mode as opposed to actual screen-mashing, voice jabbering, finger pinching usage time. So if one person's battery drops 6% in an hour of standby, and another's only drops 1%, what is the problem? And more importantly, what is the solution?

Standby/Idle: The state of the phone when the screen is off. Pressing the power button brings the device out of standby and all functions are immediately accessible. Phone calls and notifications are possible in standby/idle. Off: The state of the phone when all radios and electrical systems are turned off. Pressing the power button initiates the boot sequence, where one must wait for some time before using the handset................

HTC Droid Eris :: Hour X Hour Battery Usage (Manually Update)

Dec 12, 2009

I manually updated my Eris the other night and I must say I am happy with the update, it has really helped with my battery. What I have done is installed Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing. This puts a battery percentage indicator in the notifications area. I have set the built in timer for an hour and when it goes off I make a note of the battery in form of a percentage. Here is what I have so far.

Hour/Percentage of Battery Remaining
1/98
2/85
3/82
4/80
5/77

Motorola Droid X :: Battery Life Is Terrible - Shows Display At 93% And Cell Standby At 7%

Aug 2, 2010

First off, I read these forums like every day for 2 months (nearly drove my wife insane!) leading up to the release of the X. Stood in line and bought one in the store on the 15th. Had nothing but iPhones until now - loving my DroidX!

BUT

As of right now my battery is down to 60% after having been unplugged (when I unplugged I was at 100%) for 1hr 46m 9s!

It shows display at 93% and cell standby at 7%.

I'm running smart battery mode, auto screen brightness, not that many widgets, and I rooted it and have autokiller running on Aggressive.

Do I just have a bad battery? And if so will Verizon (or Moto) give me a new one?

Android : Battery - An Hour And 45 Minutes Of Actual Use Out

Jun 16, 2010

I've had my EVO for about a week now and i've been trying to figure out the most efficient way to get a good days worth of battery. Nothing I have done has worked so far, maybe I am missing something. I am only getting about an hour and 45 minutes of actual use out of the phone and its on standby for about 8 hours and needs to be charged. Is this normal? I dont think it is...I installed ATK to see if it would help kill apps that I dont need running, but it didnt seem to change much even on aggressive kill setting. I did have it set to kill whenever the screen turned off, but i just changed it to every half hour. would i benefit from rooting to get rid of Sense UI?

HTC Incredible :: Battery Icon - Hour Glass Effect

Jul 15, 2010

Does anyone else's battery go as such - full for a bit, then nothing but the nipple gone for half the day, then suddenly what looks like half left out of no where? No matter how much I use my phone. Like I guess I am looking for an "hour-glass" effect here, it should slowly drain until it's empty. I have never seen my battery icon look 3/4 of the way full, it just skips right over that look on my phone.

HTC Incredible :: Battery Usage - Loosing 60 Percent Charge In One Hour

Jun 10, 2010

New DINC owner here, I am somewhat questing if my battery is anygood on my new phone. I unplugged my phone with a 100% charge and the green light on. I made one 4 minute phone call and viewed 4 emails and in that 10 minutes my battery went from 100% to 90%.

Stats are:
Unplugged for 10m 22s
android system 92%
voice calls 4%
cell standby 2%
WiFi 2%

Just viewing the battery use screen brought my phone down to 88%. Is this draining to fast? I also noticed last night at work I walked in with a 100% charge, I played around online a good amount and looked at some apps. Within an hour my battery life was down to about 60%. I realize these phones use a lot of battery but this one seems to be losing it's charge in a real hurry, my Blackberry was no where near this bad.

HTC Desire :: Battery Looses Charge In Half An Hour Early Morning

Jun 16, 2010

Had the phone for around 10 days now and thankfully I am starting to get more and more use out of it, especially after tweaking some settings and what not, and over the past 2 days I am closing in on getting 24 hours from one charge with what I consider fairly heavy use (well heavier than what I used my old Pixon and that needed charged daily). The one thing that is bugging me though is this, I put the phone on charge before I go to bed, I wake up and it is around 90% (give or take a few %). Now I realize that the phones doesn't trickle charge but when I check the drain on juiceplotter, at the same time every morning, it drains.

5am-5:30am it goes down 10% or so, with out fail. It loses the charge in around about half an hour, meaning when I get up in the morning I need to pop it back on charge for a bit to get it back up to 100%. Not a huge hassle but it is irking me somewhat now. When I check programs running etc, there is nothing untoward on the go that isn't on during the day. I half though the phone was not sleeping during this time but after 5:30 the drain stops and it goes back to normal.

I heard some speculation that this is akin to the issue with the Eris 2.1, so it would be solved by the Airplane Mode trick, but I have not found any results favoring that remedy.

HTC EVO 4G :: Cell Phone Transmitter & Battery Drain

Jun 3, 2010

A cell phone is a transmitter just like a radio tower, and higher power is required to send the signal farther. Every modern cell phone automatically adjusts its transmitter power based on reception. Fewer bars means faster battery drain when you are using your phone. Switching to 2G will not necessarily save battery. If you have a 3G tower nearby, then your battery will last longer. And if you have a spotty 4G connection, you'd best plug in, or don't use it. However, given equal signal strength, a 4G signal is MORE efficient per byte than 3G.

Android :: Getting Cell Signal Strength For Current Cell Vs Neighboring Cells

Jan 6, 2010

I'm writing an android application that collects cell signal strengths.I am having trouble getting the "current" cell signal strength, but I don't have any problem getting the "neighboring" cell signal strengths. To get the current cell signal strength, I created a PhoneStateListener and implemented the onSignalStrengthChanged callback. It works, but not very well.It seems like the signal strength hardly ever changes, and resolution jumps to only a few numbers.I would accept the answer that the resolution of the signal strength hardware is coarse, but when I use the TelephonyManager's getNeighboringCellInfo() method, it works much better. The signal strength readings from neighboring cells change frequently, and they have much better resolution. So, how can I get the current cell signal strength in the same way that I am getting the neighboring cell strengths? It seems odd to me that the functionality of the neighboring cells is better than the current cell.

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere that you should store your battery with 50% charge for it to have some life if you ever need to use the phone months or a few years time. Storing it fully charged can pose a threat due to the battery blowing up?!?! Not sure if this is correct or not. What to do to preserve your unused batteries in your old phones?
