Android :: Catching ActivityNotFoundException If There Was No Activity Found To Run The Given Intent
Jun 23, 2009
The JavaDoc of Context's public abstract void startActivity (Intent intent) said:
This method throws ActivityNotFoundException if there was no Activity found to run the given Intent.
But when I look at the android source code, it does not catch ActivityNotFoundException.
For example in AlarmClock.java:
CODE:..................
what is the code which handles the case when there is no activity for that intent?

I'm trying to have my app display my login activity when a user selects add account in accounts&sync or wants to use the app and isn't logged in yet. I've followed the example SampleSyncAdapter fairly closely, but can't get it to work.
In my auth service:
CODE:........
In my manifest:
CODE:........
In my main activity:
CODE:.......
I've tried doing both
CODE:.......
And
CODE:............
Before the startActivity() call, but it still can't find an activity for that intent. If I try to add an account via accounts&sync the app crashes with the same ActivityNotFoundException.
I've examined c99's last.fm app, which defines a custom action and uses intents based on that action rather than android.accounts.AccountManager.ACTION_AUTHENTICATOR_INTENT. Is that a better approach? Is there a way to make it work with Accounts & Sync?

I've a piece of code that launches an Intent. I'm wondering if there's any way to get return codes and/or catch exceptions? The particular scenario I'm facing is when I launch an Intent passing a 'rtsp' URL but it turns out the URL isn't available.

I'm trying to catch an action like ACTION_HEADSET_PLUG. But I think it might be too much to set this action on the manifest file.
How could I register a listener for this action? I only need to care about it when my application is running not all the time as I think it would happen when registering it under the manifest file...

I have a launched android application that works fine most of the time. However 1 in about 1000+ runs I get an android.content.ActivityNotFoundException: Unable to find explicit activity class exception. The activity is declared in my manifest and I've never seen it crash myself. It is declared like this...
CODE:..........
The crash reports show it failing on all OS's from 1.5 to 2.1.

I am getting this exception while I am trying to call an activity from another one.. .The complete exception is android.content.ActivityNotFoundException:Unable to find explicit activity class {com.x.y/com.x.y.class};
I am doing an intent.setClass("com.x.y","com.x.y.className") where className is the name of my activity class and com.x.y is the package it resides in.
My AndroidManifest.xml has the following content:

I am trying to start a new activity from a menu action, as follows:
CODE:.............
The class exists, and has the OnCreate method over-ridden, but whenever I try to perform the action in the simulator I get an ActivityNotFoundException raised. I have looked through the documents and as far as I can read, I do not need to create an Intent in the manifest.xml for this to work.

I'm writing a client application for an Italian social network (Meemi) and I'd like to give the possibility to users to share their calendar events via my client. I noticed on my device (HTC Desire) that is possible to access to a "share chooser" from the Calendar event list: in fact I can share via email, sms, and bluetooth. I'd like to add my client to the this sharing list: but I'm not able to found the right intent filter to use.

My app works with pictures. It can take multiple pictures as an input, process them, and send them again to another app.
As a consequence, my main Activity has declared an intent filter on ACTION_SEND_MULTIPLE for image/* mimetypes and can result in issuing a new Intent with the same action and data type using Activity.startActivity(Intent).
Is there a way to exclude my own activity from the list of apps that is displayed to the user after the startActivity() call ?

I am using startActivity to call another Activity and I get the "Activity Not Found Exception".
Here is my code:
CODE:......
Here is the Logcat output:

Here is the debug window output:

symptomRemedyActivity is another activity in my project. Is there something I need to do like importing symptomRemedyActivity so that startActivity can see symptomRemedyActivity, to remove this "Activity Not Found Exception"?

So today I had a bright idea to rename my packages, now my android application which I have schedule for release on Thursday is not working.
I am getting a similar error as follows:
Error: Activity class {org.me.androidapplication2/com.albertrosa.DEMO.MainActivity} does not exist.
I have modified the manifest to reflect the change:
<manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
package="com.albertrosa.DEMO"
android:versionCode="1"
android:versionName="1.0"
there is more to the manifest but this is all that I have changed. is there something I am missing or doing wrong. I am using netbeans to build this app.

I am playing with "android.speech.action.RECOGNIZE_SPEECH" and in the source it says to trap for ActivityNotFoundException. However, I am not sure how I can do this, the activity class doesn't support this event. I found it as part of android.content, but am not sure how to implement it. Multiple inheritance?

I'm having difficulties handling multiple instances of my root (main) activity for my application. My app in question has an intent filter in place to launch my application when opening an email attatchment from the "Email" app. My problem is if I launch my application first through the the android applications screen and then launch my application via opening the Email attachment it creates two instances of my root activity. steps: Launch root activity A, press home Open email attachment, intent filter triggers launches root activity A Is it possible when opening the Email attachment that when the OS tries to launch my application it detects there is already an instance of it running and use that or remove/clear that instance?

The error I receive is, "android.content.ActivityNotFoundException: Unable to find explicit activity class {com.droidea.birthday/ EditBirthdayActivity}; have you declared this activity in your AndroidManifest.xml?"
The error seems simple enough, but I don't see a problem with the way I have identified this activity in my manifest file. I have also been unable to see any problems with the activity class itself..............

I've searched for a few hours for a solution to this, so hopefully this isn't a repost I'm setting a shortcut on the Home screen which raises an Intent to my application - the problem is that I don't want to show my app, just run a little code and display a Toast notification. This must be possible - I just can't work out how.. Once I'm handling the shortcut Intent in onCreate() the UI has initialised and I get a little screen flicker if I then run my code and finish().

I have a service that is downloading a file. When the download is done, I would like to update my "Downloaded files" list in my Activity, but only if the Activity is running. I do not want the Activity to start if it's not already running. I was hoping I could do this by making a new Intent with some special flag. Anyone have any idea how I can achieve this? A tiny code example maybe?
