Android :: Creating Context Menu Based On Information From Cursor

Jun 10, 2010

I have a ListView which is populated with items and I would like to be able to create the context menu based on some information fetched from the Cursor used to create the row. Is there a preferred approach for storing a boolean or flag associate with the row? Eg. should it be in the View? I could make the decision when creating the menu too, but I need to get a unique id from the row in the ListView public void onCreate ContextMenu (ContextMenu menu, View v, ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) {ListView listView = (ListView) v; Also listView.getSelectedItem() seems to return null, listView.getSelectedItemId() gives a very negative number and listView.getSelectedView() is null too. I thought that the mSelectedItem in the listView would be populated when creating the context menu. Or it could be some typo somewhere

Android :: Launch Context Menu From Context Menu

How can I launch a contextmenu from a contextmenu? I'm trying to replicate the MediaPlayer action that happens when you long click a song, then click "Add to playlist" in the resulting contextmenu. When you click that menu item, another contextmenu pops up with "Add to playlist" as the title, and "Current playlist", "New", and however-many-playlists-you-have defined after that.

Android : Get Context To Be Able To Get Resource So Read?

Nov 3, 2010

I need to get the context to be able to get a resource. Like this:

getApplicationContext().getResources().openRawResource( R.raw.texture );

I've seen the getApplicationContext() in the android documentation but when I try to use it in the above code it doesn't work - it doesn't exist.

I can send the context through functions to get it to where it's needed and it works. However, I find it cumbersome to send a variable through many functions that doesn't need or use it. Then I would rather just try to get it in the function that do. But the getApplicationContext(), as in the android documentation, doesn't work - http://developer.android.com/reference/android/content/Context.html

So how do I get the context so I can read resources? Or are my only option to send it through all my functions?

Android :: Return To Previous Activity Without Calling Finish() / Save This Information?

Oct 26, 2009

I have an android application with a LOT of activities, think of something like a book where every page is a new activity. The user can make changes in each activity, for example highlight certain texts with different colored markers etc. and it's crucial that I'll remember this information as long as the application stays alive (and I don't want/need to remember any of this when it's not). As I understand the best mechanism for storing this kind of information is via onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState) and onCreate(Bundle)/onRestoreInstanceState(Bundle) rather than lets say, the Preferences mechanism. My only problem is that the user can navigate backwards to previous pages (Activities) and the only way i know of achieving this is by calling finish() which of course kills the current activity without calling onSaveInstanceState(Bundle outState) and even if it did call it, the next time I would launch an activity representing that page it would be an entirely new instance. So my question is: Is there a way to go back to the previous activity without calling finish()? or, is there a better way to save this information? maybe through static variables?

Motorola Droid X :: Browser Won't Return To Previous Page At Correct Location?

I don't understand this. When you hit the back button after following a link, you go back to the previous page, but not where you left off. The browser seems to just throw you somewhere near the top of the page. Is there a settings fix for this, or is it just how it works?

Android :: Check Box And Context Menu

I have a ListView with a ContextMenu, it has one CheckBox (the CheckBox has android:focusable="false") and one TextView per row, but you can hide the TextView in the preferences menu. After doing that, the CheckBox wasn't registering the ContextMenu, so of course, why not register For Context Menu(cb) and unregisterForContextMenu(getListView())? Yes, i did that, but then, when when i call the delete command of onContextItemSelected, the app crashs. AdapterContextMenuInfo info=(AdapterContextMenuInfo)item.getMenuInfo(); db.deletarTarefa(info.id);

Android :: Sharing A Context Menu Between Activities

Jun 22, 2010

I have two activities that both contain an identical context menu built programmatically using menu.add(int, int, int, CharSequence). They both use onCreateContextMenu and onContextItemSelected.

The first Activity contains a ListView, when the user long presses on an item the context menu appears for that item. The second Activity (a detail screen for each item in Activity 1) contains a button, when the user presses the button the context menu appears.

I'd like to share the code that creates the context menu between these activities. The only thing these activities share is the context menu, so it seems like a bit of overkill to create a superclass (e.g., ActivityOne extends ContextMenuActivity) that defines onCreateContextMenu and onContextItemSelected methods.

Is there a better way of sharing these methods between activities?

Android :: Identifying Id Of Listitem For Context Menu

May 6, 2010

I have a View that extends Activity. A ListView will display a number of listitems. When the user long clicks I would like to present them with a contextmenu allowing them to select edit, delete etc. and then identify the listitem that was selected as the item to perform the action on.
In onCreate I have:
listView.setAdapter(adapter);
listView.setOnItemClickListener(onListClick);
listView.setOnItemLongClickListener(onListLongClick);
registerForContextMenu(listView);
I have a method onCreateContextMenu
@Override
public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v,
ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) {
super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, menuInfo);
menu.setHeaderTitle("Context Menu");
menu.add(0, v.getId(), 0, "Edit");
menu.add(0, v.getId(), 0, "Delete");
and also onContextItemSelected
@Override
public boolean onContextItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
if (item.getTitle() == "Edit") {
// edit action
} else if (item.getTitle() == "Delete") {
// delete action
} else {
return false;
return true;
}I am not sure where to go from here to get the correct row/listitem.

Android :: How To Control Opening Context Menu?

Jan 8, 2010

I'm writing a program where the user's finger will often linger on the screen for more than the couple of seconds it takes for the context menu to activate. I have a class that controls when this should happen, but I seem to be unable to launch the context menu manually. As a last resort I decided to register the context menu just before running openContextMenu(View) and while this /did/ grant me a context menu, it subsequently disabled the calls to onTouchEvent when the user touches the screen, rendering the program unusable after showing the context menu. What is the correct way of manually opening the context menu? Why does onTouchEvent suddenly stop receiving events?
