Android :: Can't Figure Out How To Write Reviews For Apps
Dec 30, 2009I, for the life of me, can't figure out how to write reviews for apps! Can I please get some help?

View 5 RepliesI am relatively new to Android so I don't know if this has been debated to death. I have seen quite a few apps reviewed in the Market where people (1) bash the app in a really negative way and (2) endorse a competing app.
IMO, this is bad for the Android community. I doubt many of the people here do this but, anyhow, on a soapbox for a minute... First, it's a little like spamming up someone else's web page. Also... it just irks me because I would equate it to the Pepsi distributor walking into the store and plastering Coke displays with Pepsi coupons. It isn't fair play if it's done by a competitor. Second, even if it's not done by a competitor, I don't think it serves any valuable purpose. We have other ways to get app recommendations, including AndroidForums.com, and to compare and contrast apps. Hell, create a posterous blog if you want to do comparison app reviews. Third, apps often go through many iterations before they're satisfactory to the developer. Maybe some app doesn't measure up to your favorite but the Market is a poor outlet for that opinion; it's just plain rude to the developer who probably invested a substantial amount of time and money into making the app.
I have had my phone for about a month.I cannot figure out how to uninstall apps that I have installed and decided I do not want to keep.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd say the worst bar none is Gizmodo. They could have just farmed the review out to any mac site and got the same result. Best so far goes to First look review: HTC DROID Incredible from Verizon Wireless | Smartphones and Cell Phones | ZDNet.com where he compares it to the Nexus one and even talks about custom ROMs.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe all know that Android runs Dalvik VM programs. Normally developers write programs in Java and they compile it to Dalvik bytecode. I wonder if it would be possible to create a compiler that can take C# code and compile it into Dalvik bytecode.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCan I program for Android using Python? I seem to have stumbled upon many links while searching... however neither of them is concrete.Any suggestions? I want to write apps for Android but really don't want to get into Java for all this. PS: My question is whether I can write proper, full fledged apps for Android.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Galaxy S4 running 4.4.2 KitKat. I tried to set the default image, video and documents directories to a folder on the SD card by going to MyFiles -> Settings -> SDCard path. I am taking photos & videos using the default app, not a 3rd party app. Although it is showing me the default is set to the SD card, the images I take using the default camera app all seem to save to the default internal storage /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera.
getting the default image directories to be on the SD card?

My app has root privileges.Ive tried this a few times but i cant get it to work, im just getting a file not found error when uploading.Ive tried mounting data/ as read/write but that didnt work or i did it wrong.
I have seen postings that have a QR barcode that points to an application in the Market. The URL used to locate an application in the market seems to have the following format: market://search?q=pname:com.froogloid.kring.google.zxing.cl ient.android(this is for the Key Ring application). My question is how do you determine this URL? If I want to post a link to an app in the market, how do I determine what it is?
I posted a demo this morning, I got 2 downloads and 7 reviews (I don't know how thats possible) but how can I "read" the reviews if you don't have the phone?

I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same for 3G and for 2G/GPRS? I know it's possible because you can turn off 3G and left 2G on.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOn my Samsung Galaxy Portal/Lite/Spica's GMail app my inbox always shows a minus figure. E.g. the top of the screen will say Inbox (-2). What does this means and how can I get it back to 0 when I have no unread mail and into a positive number when I do have unread mail. All the mail in the app is visible via the "proper" Gmail on a PC and vice versa.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know this has to be really simple, and I'm just not seeing it, but how do you leave a review for an app? I've tried going to Android Market and I've tried looking through the Market app on my phone to see if I can review apps there, but I'm just not seeing anything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use the built in camera to capture a video but when I specify the URI I want the file saved to (using videoCaptureIntent.putExtra (MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile (fileLocation)); ) the 'Retake' and 'Play' buttons crash my app. I am trying to switch and let the Intent store the file where it wants but I can't figure out how to recover the URI where it is saved to. The docs say this:
"The caller may pass in an extra EXTRA_OUTPUT to control where the video is written. If EXTRA_OUTPUT is not present the video will be written to the standard location for videos, and the Uri of that location will be returned in the data field of the Uri." But what is "the data field of the Uri"?
I have 3 Google mail accounts and I transferred all of my phone contacts from my Blackberry to my EVO. I see many duplicate contacts for phone and e-mail on my phone but for some reason they don't sync back to gmail. I'd like to merge all of my contact data and then have it synced to either my main gmail account or to all 3 gmail accounts (if that's possible).
All of my accounts are set to sync on my phone but the phone contacts don't seem to be uploaded to my gmail account(s). I figured if I get all the data there I can use the "find duplicates" function in gmail and merge all of my contacts data under single names.
I'm a big Jeopardy geek, and while I use a web-based app to figure out my score as I watch, I'd love to have an app for my phone. You may all point and laugh now.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor instance, let's take android.permission.GET_PACKAGE_SIZE. Searching for this string in Android 1.6 *.xml source files only points to a single application that uses it, frameworksas estsAndroidTests.
So the next step is to search through the .java files in a hope that I'll eventually find the code that might look like it queries for a package size. Is this the supposed way of discovering permission use?
If user repeatedly presses back button, I need a way to detect when they are on the very last activity of my task/app and show "Do you want to exit?" dialog befor they return to Home Screen or whatever previous app they had running.
Its easy enough to hook onkeypressed(), but how do I figure out that this is a "last" activity in the task?
Ever noticed that all reviews are fairly glowing? I've tried to post a polite review that is less than spectacular and it has never been published. They are white washing reviews.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'd like to dedicate this thread specifically to the evaluations and feedback for various notepads and notepads that sync.
I'd like to keep this separate from ToDo lists, lists, tasks, task lists, etc. as I've dedicated that to another thread ( Todo Lists - Tasks - Lists - Task Lists - Evaluations and Reviews ).
Doing a search for notepads on the Android Market comes up with so many results. Rather than downloading and trying out so many, I'd like to know which notepad is recommended.
I've been searching for notepads that sync - preferably with Google Notebook. Google notebook isn't very popular these days and they appear to be phasing it out and gearing users towards Google Docs.
On the iPod Touch (and iPhone of course), I've been using an App called gNotes which syncs with my Google Notebook. However, I haven't been able to find any Android applications that sync with Google Notebook.
I did, however, find at least a couple of Apps that sync with Google Docs.
Notepads that Sync with Google Docs
I've experimented with two:
Gdocs Notepad with Sync
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-mobdev-notepadgdocs-qAAB.aspx
Website: [url]
Gdocs notepad is a basic and simple application that creates a dedicated folder on your Google Docs and syncs basic text notes. Pretty basic and straightforward.
Gdocs

Website: [url]
This is an App that syncs with Google Docs, lists all your Google Docs, allows you read/view/edit most of your Google Docs, etc.
Other Notepads?
What are some other notepads you've downloaded and/or experimented with?
I've been reading up on:
Notepad with Sync:
[url]
Seems similar to GDocs Notepad with Sync. However, it syncs to Helipad - Product overview , not your Google Account. I didn't bother downloading this because one commenter mentioned that the Application was great, but helicoid wasn't, so she switched to Google Notepad with Sync.
3banana Notes:

I haven't downloaded this, but this is a 4-1/2-Star App that seems to sync with the Google Account.
Note Everything:

I haven't downloaded this. Curious to know how users here rate and evaluate this.
Please comment on other Notepad Apps. Please indicate if they
1) Sync
2) If sync, syncs to Google notebook, Google Docs, some other website.
3) Does not Sync
4) Sends or uploads to Facebook, Twitter, copies text to Gmail, Email client, etc.
5) Offers folders
6) Other unique features

View 3 Replies View RelatedI used a ScaleAnimation to make a timebar shrink in a game. When the current level was finished, I wanted the timebar to quickly shrink to the bottom. So what I did was that if 30% of the time had passed, I assumed that 30% of the timebar was gone. So I just started a new ScaleAnimation that started at 70% of the timebars original size, assuming that this would look like a single smooth animation that speed up when the level was finished. Unfortunately the scaleanimation does not move evenly. It moves slower at the start and end, and faster in the middle.
So now I have three choices: Either I figure out how to make the ScaleAnimation move in an even speed, or I figure out the formula of how fast it moves, so I can determine exactly how big it is when a certain percent of the animation has played. Or, I find a smarter way altogether to do this timebar.
Java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget I am getting this message in my log. As I investigated and found out while loading contact image this error comes.I checked size of the image file and it was normal so came to a conclusion that other processes filling up the memory and hence at the time this image is being loaded ,VM running low of memory.
My question is that, is there any tool to figure out which process is responsible for occupying memory so that we can look into the process for the exact reason.
This is for those that bought their HTC EVOs on launch day. Give reviews of the store you purchased from. Also give us your review of the phone itself. I will be posting mines in a few. Great phone so far.
