Is there a app that will fully disable these features?

Also is there anyway up speeding up my phone. I have a Rooted T-Mobile MyTouch 3G w/ the CyanogenMod 4.2.13. I heard that there is a "10MB Hack", but I also heard that it will slow down your games.

General :: Unnecessary Loading Of Apps?

Mar 12, 2013

I own xperia Neo V. Rooted recently. I found that a few apps like Hill climb racing, Zedge, Youtube Latitude etc.. are constantly loading as widgets or under other category into my RAM. I installed android assistant to see the list of processes in memory and found that these apps are loading constantly. RAM gets equipped quite soon and system performance gets degaraded. I also installed Next Launcher 3D. Would it be any cause for this? I also tried a few task killer apps especially from one of the XDA developers (Boost my Xperia) it is excellent, frees up memory by removing unncessary apps, but after a few minuts, RAM gets laoded by leaving only 35-40MB of free space.

General :: Apps With Excessive / Unnecessary Permissions?

Mar 30, 2014

A friend has ordered her first ever smartphone (Moto G) and I am tasked with showing her the ropes on using it. Although she really isn't technically-inclined, she does listen to what she is told and I really want to instill good, safe habits in her from the outset.

One of the lessons she needs teaching is regarding malicious apps, and checking permissions before installing anything. You know, stuff like games which want access to make phone calls, send sms, etc

To be clear, what I'm looking for is apps that request excessive permissions, so I can show her what she should be looking out for and avoiding when she's installing apps

Android :: Enabling And Disabling Bluetooth - SDK 3 (OS 1.5) - Programmatically?

Feb 1, 2010

I have written code to enable and disable various things programatically like Wifi, Ringer modes, Airplane modes. All things that you would see in a power toggle widget. The one that I have not found out how to do is bluetooth. It appears that in SDK level 3 (OS 1.5) there is no pretty bluetooth manager class. Has anyone pinpointed any good source examples on enabling and disabling bluetooth that will also be forwards compatible with users running 2.0 (Droid) / 2.1 (Nexus)? I have found a few partial examples in my google searches that I could not get to actually run.

Samsung I7500 :: Sync Google Apps Without Background Data

Dec 10, 2009

I'm wondering if anyone's experienced this. I'm using II5 firmware with Galaxo 1.1 None of my google apps seems to ever sync if I turn off background data. It'd be cool if there was a way to let it use background data only when the phone is unlocked, but whatever it's alright. So, fr gmail you can manually go in and chose to "Refresh", but for Calendar and Contacts there is no way to do this within the app.. Also, it never seems to sync even when you use it for a while.Has anyone found a way to sync calendar or contacts without turning on background data?

Android :: Disabling Text To Speech Logging For Data Security

Aug 3, 2010

My application has some data which I would like to keep secure. I have also enabled the application to use text-to-speech. Unfortunately, the application writes out whatever it says to the log file. This means that a third party application (with permissions to access the logs) could gain access to the data. Is there any way I can disable Android logging the text to speech data?

General :: Limiting Google-based Sync To Settings And Data Not Apps

Aug 28, 2013

I have a few Android devices and I play around with them quite a bit - flashing ROMs, etc. - and there's one thing that tends to irk me: When setting up my Google account on the device, there's the following checkbox:

Bring apps, settings and other data that you previously backup up to your Google account

Is there any way to limit this to settings and other data? I've used a TON of Android apps, and there are many, free and paid, that I have no desire to use again. I know a more robust solution (Titanium Backup, etc.) is better, but I'm not always running with root and I'm not looking for extremely-fine-grain control. I simply want to skip installing apps I haven't used in months! I know I could simply uninstall the apps, but there are a ton. I'm willing to uncheck the box if I can get a clear understanding of what I'll be missing if I don't sync. I don't have much time to experiment with it at the moment. For example, I don't remember if known wi-fi networks are synced (compare to Windows 8, which does - if I remember correctly - along with tons of other data)

General :: Save Data By Disabling An App?

May 23, 2014

I have an LG Optimus Showtime (android vers 4.0.4). Im wondering if there is a way to disable data use by a single app? I uninstalled Flickr app because it used up so much data. I would like to re install it again but only if there is a way to disable data when Im not using it. The only thing I see is to go into system settings, data usage, and then either go to a specific app and Restrict background data or Turn Off mobile data. The past few weeks I have been turning off mobile data when not using. I have went into some of my apps settings and unchecked notifications, etc., but that doesnt seem to really save data.

Android : Remove Pre Installed Apps Or Features On The Droids

Aug 15, 2010

I'm up for a new phone to replace my hated BB Storm. I played with the DX and D2, ( still can't decide) in the store. What struck me was the amount of apps or widgets for things I'll never use cluttering the screens. Can these be removed or is this all linked to the OS? Is this what people are talking about in reference to installing ROMS? I understand that this is not yet possible on the Ds because of eFuse. I also understand it is being worked on.

Motorola Milestone :: Get 2 Days Of Battery Life Disabling Backgr Data - But With Push Email On

May 9, 2010

I have a Milestone running Android 2.1

Initially, battery life was terrible, so bad I was considering returning the phone: with only K-9 email imap idle push email on in the background, and auto-sync off, I could get barely 7-8 hours of battery life, whereas with the Nokia e71 and Iphone 3gs I would get at least a day and a half, with comparable usage (push email, ca. 20 emails a day, 30 minutes of web browsing and 20 minutes of calls a day).

I then disabled background data, leaving the k-9 push email on, and now I get 2 days of battery life!

This is great, of course, but it also raises another question: what on Earth was going on in the background that was draining the battery? Thoughts?

Specifically, if you're interested in replicating my settings: I used 'any cut' to create a shortcut on the home screen to: settings -> account & sync. Once I untick 'background data', I can still use k-9 email, the browser, maps, etc, i.e. data-on-demand, if you will.

If I want to access the market, I enable backgr data again. If I want to sync contacts and calendar, I enable 'account sync' from the power control widget (which enables background data, too), and then, once done, I disable background data and account sync.

In k-9: menu -> folder list -> account -> settings -> background sync -> always. This way imap idle push works even when background data is off.

I then have a remember the milk widget (but Astrid is a valid free alternative) with manual sync, and a pure calendar widget with, again, auto sync off.

This is the best battery life I have ever had from a smartphone! But I am also curious to understand what was using data in the background and draining the battery so much... Having account sync off is a deal breaker for some, but for me it's ok: I don't update calendar and contacts every second, so the trouble of pressing a couple of buttons every now and then is well worth the extended battery life.

HTC EVO 4G :: Remove Unnecessary Aplications

Jul 4, 2010

here is my question: I like the 'ANDROID' nice phone, I am on 'Sprint', I know the phone has so much internal HD space, and the '8GB Micro' is not very much also, so this is a 3 part question:

1- is it possible (I know every thing is possible true!) to remove unnecessary applications (e.g. NASCAR, peep, qik, sprint futbol, sprint TV, sprint zone, teeter, YouTube) I don't have need for them, and they take 'space' I could use for another that I prefer.

2- Can I install upz. on the 'SD Card' and run them from there?

3-If I 'root' the phone (to get rid of the applications) can it be put back to 'factory specs' and save the warranty?

Android :: Data Transmisison Error Using SPP Over Bluetooth?

Aug 18, 2010

I've been having an issue with data integrity using an RFCOMM socket over Bluetooth in Android. I don't have any issues connecting, but the data I receive is garbled and not the same as the data that is sent. The data is sent by an RS232 device over a Bluetooth adapter, which the phone connects to. There isn't a problem with the adapter as the data is properly received if I connect with a laptop.

My Bluetooth connection is handled based off of the BluetoothChat sample application found at the Android developer site(http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/BluetoothChat/index.html), with no changes. The data being sent is plain text and control characters (which are stripped out before display to the user). The specific problem I have is that some of the text is missing, some of it is repeated, etc. The funny thing is if I connect to a computer with a terminal app and type in there, the data is transmitted fine. Additionally, if I connect to the device using the GetBlue app [url] the data is received fine.

So I guess the issue is what does GetBlue possibly do different to handle it's Bluetooth data transfer, or is there another way receive Bluetooth data over an RFCOMM socket on Android?
