Media :: Making Backgrounds Go Into Default Backgrounds Location

Jun 6, 2010

I have two questions about wallpapers on my nexus one. First off, is there anyway to take a custom image that I have and I am using and put it into the list of "default" backgrounds so that when I change it I don't have to go through that resize hassle and everything and I can have it in a more organized location. Also are there any applications or tools out there to get great looking wallpapers for the nexus one. Sometimes when using an image it doesn't look that good and the selection thing when doing it from the gallery is annoying because of the selection has to be a square yet my screen is 800x480.

Android :: Hiding An App From Task Killers?

Jan 12, 2010

I have an app on my daughters phone that will not allow her to text and drive. The problem is she can use any task killer and kill the app and bypass the application. So my question is, is there a way to hide an app from the task killers, or have the app check to see if it is running, and if not restart its self?

Android :: Task Killers Truly Not Needed?

May 10, 2010

I've read around alot about people saying task killers aren't needed because Android is Linux based (not windows) and can handle all the apps in the background so theres not need for a task killer. My question is arent there apps or services that take up alot of memory and shouldn't be constantly running (without you knowing that is) For example there are apps that constantly update (recieve data) like Mail or twitter or Anti-virus (which constantly is on the guard for new apps or settings being changed). I also noticed that after taking pictures with my phone camera it said the camera was running when i already closed it. i checked running services under the settings and the camera was taking 74% of my usage (i did refresh many times to make sure it was running). I've came to the conclusion that task killer is good for a few apps that are constantly running in the background but not as much for apps that don't constantly run in the background (like games, after you close them)

Android :: Task Killers And Antivirus Apps

Feb 24, 2010

I've been reading a lot about the task killer and AV apps here, but I am wondering if

1 - are TK apps really nessessary? Does it help with battery life and why would you want to kill an app? I've read somewhere that TK apps are not nesscessary b/c android is a linux system.

2 - Can we get viruses on our phones? Are the Free AV apps we get here in Canada, since we cannot buy apps, good? Do they really protect our phones?

Android :: Want Task Killers That Work With Froyo

Aug 24, 2010

I get that some of you are strongly convinced that task killers are of the devil. But the simple fact is this. When I got my Evo I was told to download ATK by the rep at Sprint. I put the widget on my home screen and used it like a dope fiend. And maybe I was self medicating, but my battery life sucked, and using it made my battery life suck less. Then, along came froyo, ATK stopped working, I read all the forums and got rid of ATK. Now my battery is worse than its ever been. I want to be able to look my apps and have them remain dead until I say so because its MY phone. That being said are there ANY task killers that work with froyo?

Android :: Application Killers - Save Battery

May 11, 2010

I have Open Advanced Task Killer on my HTC Desire and wondered whether it was actually worth keeping. I usually have quite a lot running most of the time it seems, and I thought perhaps killing some apps every once in a while if I'm not using them would save battery. But is it worth it and is there a better app for this out there if it's worth having one at all?

HTC EVO 4G : Android Multitasking / Related To Task Killers

Jun 28, 2010

I just read this article:

Android Developers Blog: Multitasking the Android Way

and it talks about how Android itself handles multitasking. The problem I'm running into is this: I stopped using Advanced Task Killer because people are saying that it's not healthy for your device, which makes sense to me as it seems like you're using CTRL ALT DELETE to close a program every time, and that just doesn't seem like a good idea.I understand that this isn't windows and it works completely different, but I still stopped using it because it seemed a bit harsh.After reading the above article I realize that this is how Android itself closes apps, by "brutally killing them" as the article says.If this is how Android itself closes apps when it needs more memory, why are task killers not a good idea?
If somebody could dumb it down for me so I can understand I'd appreciate it, as I'm a total Android n00b.

Android :: Google Should Prohibit Task Killers On Market

Apr 30, 2010

I'm receiving a few emails per week with complain that my widget stopped working. In all cases when we do investigation the cause is some kind of task killer. What is worse that not everybody contacts me by email bug gives bad rating even if my application is not working incorrectly. I made remedy: wrote it to documentation (http://android.hubalek.net), wrote it to application main screen and wrote it do application description but people either don't know what exactly task killers do and how they work or just don't read doc.I think that Google should prohibit all task killers as they are malicious and are breaking other apps.

Android :: Backgrounds App

Dec 30, 2009

I downloaded the backgrounds app and i love it. found some backgrounds right off the back that i liked and saved them. well when i saved the pics it says that they were saved to the sd card in the backgrounds folder. well when i go to my albums there is no backgrounds folder in there. so i figured i could hook it up over usb and just cut and paste them in a folder that i knew would show up in albums. strike 2. so i was fooling with the app and i found that they have photo frames that you can add a pic to and save them. well i tried that and a backgrounds folder appeared under albums but the backgrounds i saved still dont show up. strike 3.

Android :: Backgrounds In Listview

Aug 1, 2010

I have a listview with a bunch of items in it, each item has its own background, the problem is that if i only have one item in a list, the rest of the "empty" slots of the list is black. I tried applying a background around the listview and also on the view that sorrounds it (relativeView) and i get a strange margin around the whole list like the picture at the bottom. The question i have is, how can i remove the actual "borders" around the list so it still fills upp its parent ?

Android :: Presentation Backgrounds

Feb 26, 2009

I've just completed a week of work at my company, investigating android, and obviously spent time developing applications and playing with the API. However I know have to give a presentation about my findings (mostly good by the way), and I wanted some background pictures for my presentation that are android themed. Surely someone here has had to do something like this and either has some lying around, or knows of a website that has some CC or freely licensed background pictures.

HTC EVO 4G : Task Killers / Special Calls

Jul 25, 2010

I understand the concept behind not needing to use them when it comes to ram usage; if a program isn't active its ram can be released so it can be used by other applications.however, how does the android OS deal with cpu use by applications not active? this is the only reason i would think apps should be killed; there's nothing preventing them from using up cpu cycles while in the background.do they need to make special api calls to use cycles if not active?

I've read enough to understand that task killing under froyo is not necessary to save the battery. However, I do not like the way applications tend to open in the exact same place that I "closed" them. More often than not, when i open an app, i would much rather start with the "home" page.This is especially true with the calendar and the web browser.Is there any app out there that can help with this?

Android :: Lunar Lander Make Image Backgrounds Transparent?

Mar 9, 2010

I'm trying to make a GUI program with the Android SDK, using their Lunar Lander example as a significant self-teaching tool in the process. I've noticed their sprites' images' backgrounds, which were at least usually pure white, did not show up in their program. I want to ask how they did that, since their site doesn't explain simple things very well. I've managed to pull that off before on another GUI SDK, wherein all I had to do was to call a function and pass it a few floats to define a certain color, and until my code told it to do otherwise, that function would make sure that that particular color in my sprites' images was totally transparent. However I've wrestled with the Lunar Lander example and getting my own program to show some custom graphics for a week or two now, and I haven't noticed any such function call in the Lunar Lander example. I tried to look for it, but I did not find anything. I've tried to Google some tutorial or other reference material, but what I've found so far is just straying off into unrelated areas and totally dodging this EXTREMELY important lesson on the SDK's basics.
