Android :: Getting Checked Items From ListView Of Checkboxes

May 6, 2010

Given a listview that shows checkboxes next to a list of people, I want to be able to get the names (in Strings for example) of the people who are checked. I have set my listview mode to allow for multiple checks.

getCheckedItemPositions()

Will get the positions but I can't figure out how to iterate over the listview to get the names. Also Eclipse tells me that getCheckItemIds is not a valid method for ListView.

Android :: Unwanted State Changes Of CheckBoxes In ListView

Apr 30, 2010

I am facing a very mysterious Problem. I am using a ListView with CheckBoxes that can be clicked to select people. The row layout is the following:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <CheckBox android:focusable="false" android:onClick="onSelectPerson" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical" android:layout_marginRight="5dip" android:layout_marginLeft="5dip"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/person_name" android:text="test" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical" android:textSize="18dip" android:layout_marginLeft="5dip"/> </LinearLayout>

As long as the amount of rows doesen't exceed the screen size (-> no scrolling) everything works just fine. But as soon as I have more rows then the screen size (-> some rows are hidden and have to be scrolled to). I have a very mysterious phenomenon: If I check the top row and scroll down some of the previously hidden rows are randomly checked too. If I scroll up again, again some of the before hidden rows are randomly vhecked (the CheckBox I clicked in first place may or may not still be checked). Also the registered onSelectPerson callback is only called for the CheckBoxes I really click. The other CheckBoxes just change their state to "checked" without calling the callback method. I have the same phenomenom on the Archos IT 5 and the Nexus One. This must have something to do with the ListView implementation but I can't quite figure out what the problem is.

Android :: ListView Inside LinearLayout Inside ScrollView

Jul 7, 2009

So I've been extremely frustrated by this for a long time now.I've posted before, but can't seem to find a good solution. My goal is to have something pretty much exactly like the installed application details page in the Android Market.I need a list of items displayed along with other content above the list, and would like the content above to scroll up along with the list (exactly like the application details does for the "My Review" and other descriptive info).Due to responses to my previous posts, I came to believe that it really wasn't possible to do this with a ListView.So rather than using a ListView, I refactored my code to use a simple LinearLayout and add individual View items to the list, thinking I could just set each View as clickable and add an OnClickListener to each View in the LinearLayout.That's not working at all though, and now I'm getting even more frustrated.If someone can help me get the OnClickListener working, then I think it'll work, but I do need a separator for the LinearLayout.How do I add a separator like the one used for ListView to my LinearLayout?

Android :: ListView Checkbox Selection

Nov 10, 2010

I kind of have a 2 part question here.

1) How can I populate my ListView so that strings are what is displayed, but when items are selected, a non-visible id value (contact id from phone contacts) is the value that is actually used?

2) I have a ListView that's using multipleChoice mode for item selections. It's popluated with names from my contacts list. When I select an item in the ListView, I want that selected item to trigger a call to my SqLite routine to store the value into a database record. How do I make this event fire when an item is checked in the listview?I had hoped to be able to use something like the onClick event for each checked item, but have made not one bit of progress.

Is there a way to show that a WebView item contained as a item in a ListView is selected? Right now the WebView does not seem to display its contents transparently like every other control so it takes up the entire view and does not show its state as selected.

Also, when the content of the WebView is selected, scrolling down with the track back does not seem to cause the WebView to loose focus. If I continue to scroll down with the track ball, all of a sudden an item in the middle of the ListView gets selected.

Android :: Focusable EditText Inside ListView

Apr 21, 2010

I've spent about 6 hours on this so far, and been hitting nothing but roadblocks. The general premise is that there is some row in a ListView (whether it's generated by the adapter, or added as a header view) that contains an EditText widget and a Button. All I want to do is be able to use the jogball/arrows, to navigate the selector to individual items like normal, but when I get to a particular row -- even if I have to explicitly identify the row -- that has a focusable child, I want that child to take focus instead of indicating the position with the selector.I've tried many possibilities, and have so far had no luck.

Assuming there are other items in the adapter, using the arrow keys will move the selection up/down in the list, as expected; but when getting to the header row, it is also displayed with the selector, and no way to focus into the EditText using the jogball. Note: tapping on the EditText will focus it at that point, however that relies on a touchscreen, which should not be a requirement.ListView apparently has two modes in this regard:

1. setItemsCanFocus(true): selector is never displayed, but the EditText can get focus when using the arrows. Focus search algorithm is hard to predict, and no visual feedback (on any rows: having focusable children or not) on which item is selected, both of which can give the user an unexpected experience.
2. setItemsCanFocus(false): selector is always drawn in non-touch-mode, and EditText can never get focus -- even if you tap on it.

To make matters worse, calling editTextView.requestFocus() returns true, but in fact does not give the EditText focus.What I'm envisioning is basically a hybrid of 1 & 2, where rather than the list setting if all items are focusable or not, I want to set focusability for a single item in the list, so that the selector seamlessly transitions from selecting the entire row for non-focusable items, and traversing the focus tree for items that contain focusable children.

Listview Inside A Tab

I have a Listview and a custom made Adapter connected to it.This Listview is declared in an xml-file together with a TabHost. If the Listview is put directly in the layout and not in a tab, it works perfectly. But if I put it inside one of the tabs, it simply will not show.

Do I need to specify something special for the listview or the tabhost, or do I need to call some update/invalidate function on the tabhost after updating the list?

Android :: HTML Links In A TextView Inside A ListView

Jan 29, 2009

I've got a ListView where each item in the list is contains several controls. One of the items is a checkbox, and I can check/uncheck it without problems. The other items are some TextViews and a WebView. I've got autoLink turned on and linksClickable turned on, but I can't get links to fire up the browser when I click on them. This applies to both TextView and WebView. I've tried changing the parent to a GridView instead of a ListView, playing with setFocusable(), and all that, but to no avail.

Is it even possible to have interaction on the TextView-based elements of a row in a ListView? It seems like that *should* be possible, but I've been banging my head against this problem for a few weeks with no progress. What's the secret?

Android : Detect Scroll Position Inside A ListView?

Oct 10, 2009

I'm building a chat room application where new events are being polled for every X seconds. Every time that happens, this code updates the RoomAdapter (a custom subclass of ArrayAdapter) with the new data and scrolls it to the bottom:

RoomAdapter adapter = (RoomAdapter) getListAdapter();
for (int i=0; i<newEvents.size(); i++)
adapter.add(newEvents.get(i));
getListView().setSelection(events.size()-1);

This is fine, except that if the user is scrolling up to glance at the room's history, it's going to jump her down to the bottom when the poll happens. What I'd like to do is have it so that if the user is already at the bottom of the list, it stays there after a poll for new events. If the user's intentionally scrolled upwards, I'd like the user not to be disturbed.

How do I detect when I'm already scrolled to the bottom of a ListView?

Note: I can't do getListView().getSelectedItemPosition(), because as the docs note, calling setSelection when in touch mode does not actually select the item, just scrolls to it.

Android :: ListView Animation Of Views Inside Adapter That Got Updated

Aug 29, 2010

Im using ListView to to show some custom data, once data is updated in the adapter i call notifyDatasetChanged(), so the view will get updated, all of this works well, my issue though is i would like to run an animation once only on items that got changed when the adapter was updated. currently i keep a copy of all the changed objects and i tried to animate the correct items through the getView() call.

However if i do it only once for every getView call then i see no animation most of the time on items that changed. if i continue to do so in successive getView calls i see animation on items that don not change as well and also the ones that changed get animated again and again.

Im guessing sometimes android calls the getView() for other reasons than showing the generated view immediately, and thats the reason it doesnt work if i do it once.

Android :: ListView Items Not Clickable With HorizontalScrollView Inside / Make It?

Jun 6, 2010

I have quite a complicated ListView. Each item looks something like this...

In my activity, when an item is created (getView() is called) I add dynamic TextViews to the LinearLayout inside the HorizontalScrollView (besides filling the other, simpler stuff out). Amazingly, performance is pretty good.

My problem is that when I added the HorizontalScrollView, my list items became unclickable. They don't get the orange background when clicked and they don't fire the OnItemClickedListener I have set up (to do a simple Log.d call).

How can I make my list items clickable again?

Edit: setting android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants" on the topmost LinearLayout seems to work. I'd like to know if there are other ways, though: what if I want focusable items in my list items?

Android :: Dynamically Change Text Color Of A TextView Inside A ListView

Nov 18, 2010

I'm trying to create a game lobby for a project, and I'd like the game's status text to be a different color: red for an "[IN PROGRESS]" game and green for a game that's "[Waiting for x players]". The ListView will be populated with data, and each ListView item will have a game ID and then immediately to the right of that the game's status.

Right now I'm essentially using the Hello ListView code to create my ListView.

(In constructor)

CODE:...........

Then, I have a refresh button that obtains data from our database. It will get two Strings, one for the ID of the game, and the other for the status of the game. If the game status is 0, then it's still waiting for players. If the game status is 1, then the game has started. So, I create a gameItem to add to the gameList:

CODE:.............

This is where I'm stuck. I don't really understand how I can alter the specific TextView when I create the gameItem or when I add that to the gameList. There isn't a way I can see of accessing the TextView's properties. I see how the text of the view is set (through the mapping of the strings to "line1" and "line2", but I don't know how to change any of the properties.

Android :: ListView Getting Selection To "stick" First Time - When Scrolling

May 16, 2010

I have a ListView that I can't get to behave as I like. When I click it the first time the item I click won't get selected? It fires the onItemClick event but it is not selected on the screen. If I click the list one more time the selection remains. I want this to be the behavior the first time I click the list as well. How do I do this?

Also I would like the ListView to have a item selected by default, and I want the selected item to show as selected when scrolling the ListView. Can this be done? I've tried setSelection(0) and almost everything else I can think of but I can't get this to work. Oh one more thing that I can't figure out. When scrolling the ListView the background gets darker, how do I change this or turn it off?
