Android :: Android Application Works On Most Smartphones?
Mar 7, 2010
How can i make sure that my android app works on majority of the devices in the market. What testing tools do i have to use? Obviously if there are 12 or more smartphones in the market then i cannot buy each of them to test my app.So what should i do? Wonder if "Dvice Anywhere"(http://www.deviceanywhere.com/) can help us in this regard? Does firmware or OS version also matters (1.5,1.6, 2.0, etc.)?

I have two apps, almost identical, that make heavy use of Maps. I have both of them signed with the same key. One of them works, but the other one doesn't, it just shows a grid, but works with the debug key. I tried everything already, i mean i searched for substancial differences, but the thing is: a) if it's a code problem, it should NEVER run (and it does work with debug key) b) if it's a key problem, it should work (or not to) in both apps (and works great with one of them). I've already asked in Stack Exchange and they couldn't help me. Do you have any idea?

I'm in desperate need of a calendar app that actually works properly. On my old phone, I just had everything set and I would get an alarm until I acknowledged it. I can't seem to find anything like this for my android phone. Can someone recommend an app that I can use which is basically set it and forget it. I want something that will notify me similar to how an alarm clock would rather than just a one time notification that I may miss.

I have application that communicates with web server through REST. It works fine on a phone when connected via WiFi but does not work correctly when on 3G.
Not everything stops working. I'm still able to use some functionality but for some reason some calls to rest return "" (empty response) very quickly. Once again when I'm on WiFi everything works fine.
Just to clarify:
1. I have data plan :)
2. Server I'm connecting to is accessible from Internet

I supposed it would need a separate battery and a mini-usb cable but it would succeed especially it combined with a "video phone" app.

Its time that we start demanding the ability to "build" our own phones and be able to select both the hardware and software that would be on the phone.Custom orders can be done for personal computers/laptops and even Nike sneakers, so why not smartphones? There are a lot of phones that I like, but there are always a few things about the phones that put me off.Be it a physical keyboard that makes the phone too large, or some a Custom UI put on top of android that makes updates to the latest build few and far in between.I'm sure many of us would pay a little bit more to have a phone made to our exact specifications.Perhaps you like the Droid Incredible but want a physical keyboard, and don't want HTC's Sense on it.How hard would it really be for the manufacture to develop an incredible with a physical keyboard and not add their UI to the phone?

Can anyone tell me why smartphones are great for everything except being a phone.I struggled with 2 HTC Evos for about a month.Really poor call quality, earpiece was crap(tinny, blown speaker sound) finally returned it and went back to my Samsung Exclaim for the time being.Wow, what a difference. My old Exclaim is crystal clear, at ALL VOLUMES.Told by radioschack employee to just turn the Evo down when it distorts he was right but then you couldn't hear, especially with any background noise.I will probably try the Samsung Epic in a few weeks. My wife has the Samsung Intercept and compared to the EVO earpiece is 120% better. Why don't they put quality earpieces in smartphones?

Computers and laptops won't exist, only smartphones. We will have desktop and laptop DOCKING stations that we can plug our phones into. Those stations will have no computing or storage or networking capabilities. They will only contain a keyboard, a mouse or touch pad, and a viewing monitor. They will simply receive input from the user and send it to the phone, and display or sound the output.Such docking stations will exist at home, school, work, airports and other public places.

We want to build a smartphone app which uses geolocation, etc. and target the most important smartphones. Which OS would you support for a b2c application? I found a german statistic here: http://de.statista.com/statistik/daten/studie/150842/umfrage/prognostizierte-marktanteile-der-smartphone-betriebssysteme-in-2013/ which forecasts the smartphone usage for 2013. To summarize it lists the following OS, ordered by priority:
Symbian, Android, Blackberry (RIM), Windows Mobile, iPhone
Would you agree with this priority or should we start with the classical: iPhone/Android combo?

There is on the market many "usb-only" speakers (without jack connector) to be connected to computer. I m asking about some app which will be able to turn our smartphone like an usb speakers. It could be fun to use our smartphones as speakers when we don't have traditional speakers.

Lets say I have 2 mobile phones which are 50 meters away from each other and I would like to send a very small packet of data from mobile-A to mobile-B, without using any communication to cellular tower. To make it simpler, I would like to build an app which implements a Peer to Peer connection for 2 mobiles in the same radius (in the same area). Is this feasible using the technology of smartphones these days?

I'm running 2.1v2 (non-root...=() and I've noticed over the past few days that the dialer app doesn't work all the time. On more than one occasion it will ring and when I answer the call, there's no sound, likewise when I place a call, it won't even ring. If it helps, here are the apps I've downloaded and installed:
Dialer One
Handcent
handyCalc
xScope (the paid version)
Barcode Scanner
Compass
Johnson Bubble Level
Metal Detector
I've set my modem slot to 1 but it hasn't fixed the issue, I have disabled haptic feedback and cleared the call log (which is usually pretty empty anyways).

Am looking for a weather app that works like the OLD HTC Sense app.
The new weather app HTC included with v2.1 doesn't allow me to add cities that aren't in its list ... frankly I don't give a crap what the weather in Paris or Dubai is! We used to be able to input additional cities, current locations, etc. and swipe thru the list. If there's a way to add cities I haven't found it yet ... anyone know how?
I've looked at the WeatherBug, Accuweather, Weather Channel, etc., etc. apps and while they're nice they don't allow me to EASILY switch from city to city. So, what I'm looking for is EXACTLY what we had before.... Anyone know where I can find that?

My name is Daniel Feldman and I am with the product group of an exciting new startup called Waze.
Waze is aiming to create the first user generated live driving map through the use of Smartphones. Our goal is to empower drivers to create, share and use real-time information (such as Traffic updates or road accidents) straight from their Smartphones. This has been both very popular and efficient in Israel, where we first began.
Waze is currently seeking 100 alpha users in the Bay Area who'll be the first users to participate in building this exciting project. In addition, if you have any other ideas, tips or suggestions, we would love to hear from you.

My aunt gave me a Samsung Galaxy S2 and everything was fine, except that it didn't let me register to the network. The next day it told me that it had to do an update so I did the update. After the update the home screen turned black and pressing the buttons didn't do anything. After a while an error pops up saying "application is not responding" and then the screen just stays black. The top bar works just fine and I can even go on the internet, play games, practically do everything. I did a factory reset by pressing Volume up + Home + Power 3 times already, but the only thing that changed is that the language turned into German.. the screen stays black. It had nothing to do with Rooting or Flashing, because I don't even know what that is.
