Android :: Adding A ListView To A Custom ViewGroup

I am trying to create a ListView and add it to a custom ViewGroup.
Here is my code:
CODE:.................
I've got the following node in my XML layout:
CODE:.................
TagLayout is a class that extends ViewGroup, and basically holds a bunch of buttons with text (a custom object that act as tags, but that's neither here or there).
The problem is that when there are too many buttons, the view no longer scrolls. I can confirm that I am adding tags but I can't see anything.
If I wrap the above within a ScrollView, the layout never renders. I tried adding the attributes android:isScrollContainer and android:scrollbars, but that doesn't change anything. Is there something I'm missing here?
I should also add that TagLayout is overriding the onMeasure() event. I guess I need to implement a scrolling mechanism there...?
I have a custom ViewGroup that I wrote, and have been able to use it to lay out child elements in code just fine. However, now I'd like to be able to use it for layout in XML. I would also like to be able to add some custom attributes to the XML file to better control my layout. How do I set up, both in XML and in code, a set of custom attributes? Bonus if it can be used with the built in designer in Eclipse.

I have a ListActivity whose layout looks like. code...
However, my empty list view consist only of the ImageView listed first inside the nested LinearLayout.
This seems like a reasonable thing to do but I don't completely understand Android's layout rules yet.
I am new to Android, and I am trying to understand how to create a custom ViewGroup. I created MyViewGroup as follows: Code...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to have a ViewGroup with another View in it. The user should be able to move the other View around the ViewGroup, and fling it away. However, the inner View shouldnt only move, it should also scale and so on (so we dont restrain ourselves to just movements). I don't really know the best way to implement it.
First I though about using a ViewGroup pretty much as it is (i.e. take advantage of the already-written methods). Then I could do the flinging with an Animation. However, when I move the View around with my finger, wouldnt I have to do a requestLayout, since the View changes size when I move it? Or could I just set a transform?
The other alternative would be to override the draw-method and do most of the work myself. For instance, when the user moves his/her finger, I could get a cache of the View and just paint it on the Canvas (with some transform). However, how would I do the flinging then, without an Animation? I could use a Scroller/VelocityTracker, but What would "drive" the repaints? Which is the best way to do this? Also, I won't have just one View, but a couple of them, so I'd like the solution to be effective.
I've extended ViewGroup to achieve something like a FlowLayout.I put my custom ViewGroup into a ScrollView, dynamically add a bunch of content and it doesn't scroll. The content that flows off the screen is not viewable. What am I missing, how can I allow my ViewGroup to be compatible with ScrollView?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a custom ViewGroup. The idea is to be able to place controls at absolute positions and then have the ViewGroup scale those controls based on the difference in the screen dimensions with respect to the original design dimensions. I am using the code below. In response to the 'onMeasure' message, I am storing the width and height of the view. Then on the 'onLayout' message I am computing new dimensions for the child controls and adjusting their sizes proportionally. This all works to some degree. However for certain controls (e.g. button controls), the control resizes, but the text inside does not remain centered within the control. I am thinking that there is some other call I need to make to update the child controls after I change their size.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi am quite new to android and i was wondering how i could go about adding a listview with different images and text. What i am trying to achieve is a listview with four rows which have a different Icon? I don't know how to set that up using the xml layout provided. should i build this using different multiple linear layout or is there a better way to go about it?.. All the examples i have seen all seem to be using one particular Icon and no much detail of the xml layout.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ListView that with alphabetical headers for each letter. I also have an index function that brings the letter headers to the top of the screen.
My problem is when I reach the end of the list setSelection is unable to bring the last few headers to the top because it will not scroll past the end of the list.
My question is this: Is there a way to add a blank space to the end of the screen dependent on screen size? I would like to scroll until the last item in the list is at the top of the listView.
I'm adding section headers for my listView, there are few methods on the web. Since I'm using simpleCursorAdapter to manage my listView, I adopted phil bogle's method. http://thebogles.com/blog/2010/02/section-headers-for-android-listviews/
The error occurred at this part of the code:
CODE:.................
This is the LogCat shows how they compare while I scroll up the list:
CODE:..............
The correct output should be:
Sun, 05 Sep 2010
112
120
But when I scroll up, the setViewValue calls 120 first and compare with preDate(show above), it becomes:
Sun, 05 Sep 2010
112
Sun, 05 Sep 2010
120
So how can I make the section headers fixed after creating the headers? Why setViewBinder been called while scrolling?
I am copying my code below to do the above. The problem I have right now is after I have picked a Contact from the list, I am not able to add the name to the listview. I get a Force Close at that step. See point no. A below to understand what I am talking about.
Also, the ListView is built using 'strings' ArrayList which is empty the very first time. The Menu option 'Add' is then used to pick a Contact and add the contact Name to the ArrayList which is then:
CODE:................................
I've been trying to add a linear layout to a listview header. The listview appears fine and is working as expected, but when i try to add a linearlayout to the header i get a java.lang.ClassCastException: android.view.ViewGroup$LayoutParams occuring at the list.addHeaderView (ll); line. I thought it might be something in the complex layout i had so i switched it to just a linearlayout with a colored background and still got the same error. The end result i an trying to get is a list with a header that is all scrollable.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Absolute Layout with two buttons on top, a Text View of fixed size in the middle and List View as the rest of the Layout.
I want to use the top left button to add a list view item to the existing list and the top right button to remove the last item from the list. The List is layed out properly when the App starts, but as soon as any of the two buttons is pressed, the Activity Force Closes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a list view which uses a custom adapter in order to show my custom content. Its layout is the following.

I would like that the listview only showed the view with the ids itemimage and item description, keeping the itemtext hidden.
The idea is to have an onclicklistener on each item of the list, in order to expand that item so it shows the itemtext content. I know I should use Tweening animation in order to expand/collapse each item, but I can't figure out how to do that.
I want to refresh an Android ListView after adding/deleting dynamic data.
Can any one tell me how to achieve this?
I was attempting to add a custom view in XML, but I kept getting force closes. It works fine when I just find the parent and use addView() so it isn't the code. I'm pretty sure I'm just getting the constructors wrong. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Here's what I've got:

I am working on adding vertical and horizontal scrollbars in a custom drawn View. I have overridden the compute*ScrollOffset, compute*ScrollRange, etc methods and have enabled the scrollbars by called set*ScrollBarEnabled. However, I do not see the scrollbars in my View, even after a call to scrollBy, which according to the documentation calls awakenScrollbars (I assumed awakenScrollbars is not required as the scrollbars do not auto-fade - isScrollbarFadingEnabled returns false).

And i was wondering how can i add the new View to an existing xml layout file, along with some other views.
Already i did this inside my main linear layout:
CODE:..........
But the problem is that this way the onDraw method doesn't get called.
Maybe some examples where you combine CustomViews with xml layout.
