I want to refresh an Android ListView after adding/deleting dynamic data.
Can any one tell me how to achieve this?
I'm writing an android program for adding task and deleting task in listview. I've add an onClickListener to the delete button so it can delete the task. However I was told I should not have the listener in the adapter violating mvc. how I can remove a task in my TaskListItem class. I got the method removeTask() in the adapter, but don't how I can use it in the TaskListItem class.
Code:
public TaskListItem(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
super(context, attrs);
mContext = context;
[code]...
I am adding items to my data source and would like it to appear in my ListView.
For some reason nothing is appearing:
Adapter:
CODE:.........
Adding items in onCreate:
CODE:...............
Here is my layout:
CODE:..................
I want to add,delete,update android Contact Database using native c code. please tell me how to do if any one have done it.

<LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:id="@+id/Ledititems" android:orientation="vertical" android:scrollbars="vertical" android:scrollbarStyle="insideInset" android:scrollbarAlwaysDrawVerticalTrack="true" android:fadingEdge="vertical" android:fadingEdgeLength="8px"></ LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
I am adding dynamicly created EditTexts to the last vertical LinearLayout:
ArrayList<EditText> arrayedititems; edititems = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.Ledititems);
arrayedititems.add( new EditText(globalcontext) ); //multiple times to add many EditTexts .... edititems.addView(arrayedititems.get(lastindex) );
Now all the edittexts are being added fine and show up on the linearlayout, the problem is I get no vertical scrollbar and can not scroll the linearlayout (you can a see large number of failed attemptes in the xml entry to enable this scrolling, such as forcing scrollbars or setting to vertical) Do I need to call some sort of invalidate() or notifyDataSetChanged() like with an arrayadapter to update the LinearLayout into checking if it needs to enable scrolling?
I'd like to use different row descriptors (from the XML layout resource) in one ListView. Can I and how? Also, I'd like to be able to programmatically change the size of the rows, based on the data in each row, in a ListView. Can I and how?

I am making a time sheet program where a user inputs his in- and out-punches. I have a ListView that I am populating from an array of calendar objects. I would like each row to show the day and date then on a new line the time, but I only want to display the day and date if it is different from the previous element.Currently, I am setting visibility in the Base Adapter based on comparisons using position vs position-1 (which are used as indices to the array). This only works if the whole list fits on the screen. If it extends beyond the screen and the user scrolls around the results are unpredictable.To further confuse things, I am setting the color of the times, based on the position, to alternate between green and red (in/out) and it works as expected, scrolling or not.How does Android handle the ListView position when scrolling or what could I do differently to show/hide the day and date? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a ListView in my android activity. And I populate the ListView by sub-class the BaseAdaptor (which returns a View in getView() method).
What if in my click listener of a button in a list item view, I change the text of the TextView in the List item view or change the dimension of the list item view by adding/removing children of the list item view
What is an efficient to refresh my listView? I don't want the listView to re-trigger a query since there is no data change.
I have listview with items that include both text and images. If I scroll the listview fast enough all items images are messed up: wrong images are displayed for wrong items. The same problem exists with expandable listview. I tried to implement holder class to cache imageview and image itself using setTag, getTag but nothing helps. The faster I scroll the more items are messed up. Text almost always displayed correctly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a CursorAdapter attached to a ListView, the ListView contains checkboxes for every row. When I check/uncheck a checkbox in a row it will update it to a 0 or 1 in the database (This is working fine) I also have another checkbox in the same Activity that when pressed will disable all the checkboxes in the ListView [ setEnabled(false) ].
The problem is that when I press this checkbox the ListView checkboxes return to their initial state when I started the activity. It does not matter the number of checkboxes I changed during the activity.
However, if I press the back button and then re-enter the activity all modifications are saved because the Cursor is refreshed. I am calling notifyDataSetChanged() at the end of the the methods that disables all the checkboxes.
I also tried this for every checkbox in the ListView but it did not work (was unable to check a checkbox) Any ideas?
I have been looking at Androids call log content provider and have managed to pull the data from it and display it in my own app. However I want to be able to write to the call log, is there anyway of doing this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using this following code which creates a ListView with text and an icon but the problem that I have which the following I want the array to be dynamic instead of static so my list gets created dynamically not statistically. My ultimate goal is to retrieve specific strings from my Db and to display it then on the Listview where every string would be in each row.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get my first Android app stable enough for the marketplace, and I've hit a brick wall with one exception that I don't understand. Probably I'm doing something stupid, but I can't tell what, and after several hours googling and experimenting, I thought I'd see if I can get some help. My Activity extends ListActivity, and the parts I think are most important are extracted below:
GroupedListAdapter is a simple class that extends BasedAdapter to provide headings for sections of the list (not unlike the Fancy ListView tutorials that are floating around).
I create this in onCreate, and it works fine. Inside onListItemClick, I do some actions which will create a different set of list contents. I "clear" the adapter, which empties the contents, and call reload, which repopulates it. Then I call notifyDataSetChanged.
Most often, this seems to work, but also fairly often, I get the exception following the code snippets below - this seems to indicate the ListView is not in sync with my changes. Lately this crash happens 100% of the time under the simulator.
CODE:.........................
to display the contact i have used this coding
Code:
Cursor cursor = getContacts();
String[] fields = new String[] { ContactsContract.Data.DISPLAY_NAME };
//this.setListAdapter(new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,android.R.layout.simple_list_item_checked,));
SimpleCursorAdapter adapter =
new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,
android.R.layout.simple_list_item_checked, cursor, fields,
newint[] { R.id.contactEntryText });
mContactList.setAdapter(adapter);
exception is thrown, i got successful in textview but i want it in listview(scrollable) to add the contact, i have used the code
Code:
ArrayList<ContentProviderOperation> ops = new ArrayList<ContentProviderOperation>();
ops.add(ContentProviderOperation.newInsert(Data.CONTENT_URI)
.withValue(Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID,0)
.withValue(Data.MIMETYPE, Phone.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE)
.withValue(Phone.NUMBER, "1-800-GOOG-411")
.withValue(Phone.TYPE, Phone.TYPE_CUSTOM)
.withValue(Phone.LABEL, "free directory assistance")
[code]....
i both add and delete i am not getting any error, but it is not reflected nither in the contact nor in the textView.
In a layout (linear, vertical) hierarchy I've got several view and one of them is a WebView. Is there a way to let the webview resize itself, to match it's content size? By the way the space left vary from one device to another (emulator vs Milestone vs Hero)..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to display contact information in a custom layout. My app lets the user select a contact, then I retrieve key pieces of info on that contact (phone #'s, email addy's, etc). I want to display them to the user so they look grouped logically. Sort of like a series of tables, so phone numbers, then email addys, then organization, etc.
I have a table format that I've been using in a different part of the app where I know the exact number of rows I'm adding and I have defined styles for the rows already. I want to reuse those styles for this data, but android sdk won't allow for you to set the style attribute programmatically.
I could create the tables in code and set all the attributes the same as in my defined styles, but it seems like a lot of extra coding.
I have created a broadcast receiver statically by specifying it within the Manifest, and I have also created the "same" broadcast receiver in code and have registered it with the application context. The static way works very well, but the dynamic way does not receive the expected broadcast. It could be that I am not creating the intent filter correctly, or that I need to register it with some other context somewhere. Please see the code examples to see what I am doing. This is related to receiving data SMS, it works very well on a device using a broadcast receiver defined in the Manifest. The correct permissions are set for both examples.
The following is from the Manifest, and the resulting receiver gets the expected broadcasts:
CODE:.....
The following is the code example that doesn't work (it does work with an intent like "android.provider.Telephony.SMS_RECEIVED" but not for data sms):
CODE:.....
The question is - why does this broadcast receiver get notified of the incoming data messages? It seems some other resource is notified when the Manifest version of the receiver is created...
In my apps preferences screen, i want to pop up a dialog that shows a list of checkbox items that are dynamically generated.
How does one do that and also, how does one get the checked values? I have made custom dialogs in the past, but for some reason my brain wont function today ..
After the listview is already initialized, is it possible to add items to it during runtime?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi am quite new to android and i was wondering how i could go about adding a listview with different images and text. What i am trying to achieve is a listview with four rows which have a different Icon? I don't know how to set that up using the xml layout provided. should i build this using different multiple linear layout or is there a better way to go about it?.. All the examples i have seen all seem to be using one particular Icon and no much detail of the xml layout.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ListView that with alphabetical headers for each letter. I also have an index function that brings the letter headers to the top of the screen.
My problem is when I reach the end of the list setSelection is unable to bring the last few headers to the top because it will not scroll past the end of the list.
My question is this: Is there a way to add a blank space to the end of the screen dependent on screen size? I would like to scroll until the last item in the list is at the top of the listView.
I'm adding section headers for my listView, there are few methods on the web. Since I'm using simpleCursorAdapter to manage my listView, I adopted phil bogle's method. http://thebogles.com/blog/2010/02/section-headers-for-android-listviews/
The error occurred at this part of the code:
CODE:.................
This is the LogCat shows how they compare while I scroll up the list:
CODE:..............
The correct output should be:
Sun, 05 Sep 2010
112
120
But when I scroll up, the setViewValue calls 120 first and compare with preDate(show above), it becomes:
Sun, 05 Sep 2010
112
Sun, 05 Sep 2010
120
So how can I make the section headers fixed after creating the headers? Why setViewBinder been called while scrolling?
I am trying to create a ListView and add it to a custom ViewGroup.
Here is my code:
CODE:.................
I am copying my code below to do the above. The problem I have right now is after I have picked a Contact from the list, I am not able to add the name to the listview. I get a Force Close at that step. See point no. A below to understand what I am talking about.
Also, the ListView is built using 'strings' ArrayList which is empty the very first time. The Menu option 'Add' is then used to pick a Contact and add the contact Name to the ArrayList which is then:
