Android :: Adding Button To Efficient Adapter Which Has Icon And Text?
Apr 19, 2010
I want to create a layout in such a way that on top edittext and button should be there in one row. The search text I enter in editext and click on search button. Then I want to display a custom list view where each row contains image and text.(As per the API demos example list14 I have tried). But when I run the application, button and edittext are being added to each row (i.e., Each row contains a image, text, editext, button.
Below is my xml file:
<!--
<FrameLayout android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1"></FrameLayout>
-->
<ImageView android:id="@+id/icon" android:layout_width="48dip"
android:layout_height="48dip" />
<TextView android:id="@+id/text" android:layout_gravity="center_vertical"
android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_weight="1.0"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<!--
<EditText android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/prdsearchtb"
android:text="@string/tb_prd_search_lbl"></EditText>
-->
<!--
<TableLayout android:id="@+id/TableLayout01"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TableRow>
-->
<Button android:id="@+id/prdsrcbutton" android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/btn_lbl_prd_search"
android:layout_x="2px" android:layout_y="410px"></Button>
<!-- </TableRow>
</TableLayout>
-->

I'm using a mixture of the "Efficient Adapter" and the EndlessAdapter from CommonsGuy, and sometime the holder in getView() is null.
CODE:.............
I've put the rest of the code for both of my classes here, as it's rather large to paste inline.
Once the whole data set is loaded, scrolling up & down causes rows to disappear and re-appear too.

I am hooking up my Samsung s4 to my tv to mirror the image on my phone. I read that a lot of people are having problems finding adapters that can charge the phone while using the hdmi adapter. I was wondering if I took the cable going from the adapter to the phone and if I spliced into it and added another source of power that was 5 volts would that make up for the lack of power coming out of the hdmi adapter or would that damage my phone. I attached a picture for reference.

I have some reference data in a text file (~5MB) that I want to use with might android application.The file is of the format:
1|a|This is line 1a
1|b|This is line 1b
2|a|This is line 2a
2|b|This is line 2b
2|c|This is line 2c
What I want to know is the most efficient way (less memory, fast, size etc.) to use this file within my application.
a.) Should I save the file as a raw resource and open and read the whole file whenever I need a certain line.
b.) Should I convert the file to XML and use XPath to query the file when ever I need to look up a value
<!--sample XML -->
<data>
<line number="1">
<entry name="a">This is line 1 a</entry>
</line>
</data>
c.) Should I just copy & paste the whole file as a static string array in the application and use that.
[EDIT] I will also need to search this file and jump to arbitrary keywords e.g. "line 1a".

I have read the Gallery2.java example, which show how to map a Column's value to an element in the view I want to create (in this case, it maps 'NAME' to text1 element0. But what if I have a Button in my view, how can I know which Person is being clicked? or how can I query the person's info when a button in the new is clicked?
From the Gallery2.java example:
SpinnerAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,
// Use a template that displays a text view
android.R.layout.simple_gallery_item,
// Give the cursor to the list adatper c,
// Map the NAME column in the people database to...
new String[] {People.NAME},
// The "text1" view defined in the XML template
new int[] { android.R.id.text1 });
Gallery g = (Gallery) findViewById(R.id.gallery);

I'd like to make a list adapter that formats views like this:
I want to be able to fire a different onClick when the user clicks the image. I have defined the onClick on the image itself in the getView() override, but how do I then get the position of the line that was clicked so I can update the record in the database to record the action?

While Contextmenu items support calling setIcon : menu.add(0,).setIcon( R.drawable.xxx); the icon never gets displayed. Is this a bug? a feature? Is there a reasonably priced workaround for getting icons onto context menus?

I'm implementing my own sync adapter and everything works great. A strange i'm having is that after the sync is over, the Android still shows the sync icon (the one with the rounded arrow) in the account activity, and that someone (i guess its the account manager) repeatedly calls the sync again and again, every 30 to 60 seconds. Now i tried all sort of things to test this issue and i have discovered something strange. In my code, i do resolver.applyBatch every 50 new rows. (each new contact i sync has about 5 rows). If i remove the applyBatch (which means i retrieve the data from the next, sort it and prepare it, but never "commit" it) - the problem goes away. The icon disappear and the account manager never calls it again on its own (I'm using Android 2.1). I must also state that no exception is being thrown in any of the cases and that all the methods finish gracefully.

If it is undocumented, i.e. "API can be changed at any time", then I dont think I will use it. But otherwise, it would be very neat to indicate that my service is active.

Recently I've ordered a Cube U9GT5 tablet and so far it's great, however I miss a small feature and really makes the life easier, and that is the button to kill all apps in Recent Apps window. I have this feature on my I9000 running GamerzROM (4.2.2) and I really miss it on my tablet.
The Cube is also running on 4.2.2 and is rooted. Is there any tweak or an app that can add this button?

I was wondering if it is possible to customize the icon used for the More menu option (displayed when there are more than 6 menu options)? With the stock vanilla Android UI it appears as a disclosure-type arrow and on HTC Sense UI it's an ellipsis icon. Curious if these are fixed icons only defined in the Android resources or if there is a way to programmatically set them?

I have a LinearLayout defined in XML that I want to use repeatedly to display elements of a list. The XML-layout looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="@drawable/background"
android:paddingBottom="5px">
<TextView
android:id="@+id/destination"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textSize="22dp"
android:text="@string/test_destination"
android:paddingLeft="5px"/>
<TextView
android:id="@+id/date"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:textSize="15dp"
android:text="@string/test_date"
android:paddingLeft="5px"/>
<TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="@+id/info"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:paddingLeft="5px"
android:paddingTop="10px" >
I gather information about certain events from a webpage, and then I want to display all events in a list using the above layout for each event. My current approach is to have a LinearLayout as parent and then adding each event as a row.
Problem number one is to add the layout to each event (the number of events is varying). I.e., I want to dynamically inflate this layout for each event. I also don't want the text to be hard coded into the layout (as above) but added at runtime. I don't know how to do this. I have tried something like the following without any success.
LinearLayout eventView = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.layout.event);
parentView.addView(eventView);
Problem number two is then to add these layouts to the parent view group and display it on the screen. When I try to do this using parent.addView(child), the program crashes at runtime and I can't figure out why.
It's kind of hard to describe the specific problem, since I'm new to GUI-programming on Android and I'm sort of programming by trial and error right now. Anyway, if you are able to help me with some of the problems it would be greatly appreciated. Linus
EDIT:
The problem now is adding text dynamically to the TextViews. I try this:
TextView dest = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.destination);dest.setText("myText");
only to discover that dest is null. Any ideas why and how to fix this?
EDIT 2:
I have narrowed the problem even more, but I really don't understand its nature. This is the trouble-method: Code...
it somehow works (even though the events are displayed in reverse order). Anyone knows what's going on here?

Is it possible to change the radio button icon? For example, is it possible to create a custom layout for each row and in that layout reference my own icon and change the font et al.

While using the predictive text in the DINC I sometimes want to type something that isn't a word like an acronym or some abbreviation. Predictive text will suggest a word close to what I am typing but I don't want that. It offers exactly what I am typing as an option but then it adds that text to the dictionary. Sometimes that's great but most of the time I want to simple use the term once and not add it to to dictionary. If I type space it will change my text. If I select the offered override it adds the text to my dictionary. How do I just keep what I am typing?
