Android :: Add An Option When Long-pressing A Number?
Oct 5, 2010
I'd like to add an option when long-pressing a number in the call list. Actually I have:
Dial
Send SMS
Add to contact
Edit before calling
Remove
Is it possible to add an option there? Such option should start my application through an Intent when pressed.

After a (brief) look around here, I have a couple of questions. Is it possible to change tracks by long pressing the volume keys?
It seems this is possible on the nexus one. How would I (can I?) put this on my desire.
Would I have to root to get it to work or is it something that is/might come with 2.2?

When you're in the browser long pressing on the back button takes you straight to the history page, very useful.

My Evo takes about 30 seconds to dial a number. i select a contact in my contact list, the contact highlights but does not dial for about 30 seconds. While I was typing this my phone was turned sideways for the big keyboard, I would select a letter, the letter bubble appears but the letter does not show on screen. In vertical mode the keyboard is fine.

On iOS within any app, multiple options are available when clicking on a phone number contained within any text in any app. Eg: save to contacts, call, message etc etc.
Today somebody sent me their number in a Facebook message and the only option I had in the "complete action using" popup when clicking on the number was to call it or Skype it.
I wanted to SMS it, or at least save it to contacts.
Using 4.3 on an HTC One. And GoSMS

I would like to forward all calls to my number on to the new predefined number automatically. Is it possible to forward incoming call? Probably it is possible for Froyo at least. I found application called Easy Call Forwarding. But many people reckon it dosen't work actually. We can notice forwarded call by onCallForwardingIndicatorChanged() from PhoneStateListener but I have no idea how to set forwarding mode.

My son decided to lock his tablet with a random number he plucked from the universe! one that he can't remember! I'm pretty sure it's a MID here is the link to where I got it from. 8G 7" Android Tablet 4.1 Dual Cam Keyboard Case | Trade Me. I have tried all the different power volume button combos that were suggested on web, also have tried downloading the program to my pc to share info with the tablet, but the information sharing must not be turned on in the tablet, as when the device showed up in my computer it was empty! Where I purchased it from will send me a Getroot, but I have to pay and I'm not sure if this will even work!

I use my phone as an audio player while outside with a bluetooth headset. I have the phone in my pocket. However,it seems very easy for the side buttons to be pressed, even when the phone is locked. What do you all do for this? I have tried a couple things and did find a "solution", but it's not one that I like, and would appreciate hearing thoughts from others.

I've recently been getting user complaints that when they leave my app by pressing the 'Home' key, my app continues to play sounds like it is supposed to, but when they go back to the app, a new one opens, but the old one is still running in the background. I have noticed this sometimes myself too, but only recently (my app has been on the market for a while now). I've done some testing myself and noticed that when a new instance of the app is opened after pressing 'Home' then starting the app again, pressing the 'back' key will go back to the original instance of the app that was opened. This means that the original instance of the app was not killed, but a new one was just opened over it. Has anyone else experience something like this?

I have an Android service, created in OnCreate of first Activity of the application using StartService(). I need this service to be running throughout the life span of the application ie, all the activities in the application. But the service should not consume the resources after user pressed Home key or Back button. Is there any elegant way to do that other than stopping the service in onPause() method of all the activities?

I've heard that pressing the back button will essentially cause the current Activity to finish(). Is this always the case? Seems like it would be with the way it pops the Activity off the stack.
The one situation I'm not so sure about is when the root Activity in a Task has back pressed. I'm currently experiencing a very weird effect, described as follows:
On loading my application, the first Activity is for initialization, and once it finishes, it calls my main Activity (a TabActivity). This first init activity has android:noHistory="true" set in the Manifest so pressing Back from my main Activity won't go back to that. It goes to the Launcher. When I click on my App in the Launcher a second time, the initialization activity loads again, and loads the main Activity when done. Almost immediately after, it loads a second instance of my main Activity. But ONLY after the Application has already been run once, and was exited by pressing BACK from the main Activity. It does it every subsequent time until I force quit the app or load a new version from the IDE.
Based on this, I am suspecting some kind of Activity instance is lying around and being reused, since it only happens on the second+ time I run the application (and exit with BACK -- using HOME just returns to the last state of the app, no big deal).

The api has a nice way to get a list of all installed applications: Code..
It doesn't start up the same Gallery as pressing your normal Gallery icon. Instead it starts up a list of all images and then when you pick one it just returns back to the program.
What I'm looking to do is start up the regular gallery app just like if someone pressed the Gallery icon on their home screen. Any ideas how to do that?

I have a pattern unlock on my Samsung Galaxy S 19000. If I want to lock my screen manually I simply press the power button briefly which works fine. I now use a skin on my phone which doesn't allow for easy access to this power button so I'm wondering if there's an app that I can use to lock my phone screen without having to press the power button. I have looked at "lock 2.0", however, it seems to be more for actually unlocking the screen.

I want to specify in code to move to specific activity after pressing back button on android keypad how I can accomplish this. Now I ot the solution to my prob onBackPressed() works after 1.6 version for previous versions we need use:
public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) method
My code for this solved prob is
@Override public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) {
if (android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < android.os.Build.VERSION_CODES.CUR_DEVELOPMENT && keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK && event.getRepeatCount() == 0) {
// Take care of calling this method on earlier versions of
// the platform where it doesn't exist. onBackPressed(); }
return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event);
} //@Override public void onBackPressed() {
// This will be called either automatically for you on 2.0
// or later, or by the code above on earlier versions of the
// platform.
Intent i=new Intent(AgesWebViewIndex.this,TabCls.class);
i.putExtra("age", "agepage");
startActivity(i);
return;
}

I'm new to Android and just starting the very basics. I implement my custom button skin using .9.png images for norma/focus/pressed states. It works fine, but I noticed that after a pressed the focussed button it visually "lost" focus and draws the normal state frame. I planned to use different state images to highloght what button is selected right now, but it seems that it would not work. I noticed also that the same happens with the default LAF button. Is it OK, or it's just emulator issue? What the good workaroud can be used?

I am making an Android game with an Activity called Game, a SurfaceView called GameView and a Thread called GameThread. The Game's onCreate(), I make a new GameView, which makes a new GameThread, where all the game logic and canvas drawing is carried out. However, I'm having some lifecycle difficulties. When I press back and restart it, it works fine, but when I press home and restart it, all I see is a blank screen. Here are the GameView's onSurfaceCreated() and onSurfaceDestroyed(): @Override public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) {
mThread.mRunning = true;
mThread.mWidth = getWidth();
if(mThread.mWidth > 550) mThread.mWidth = 550;
mThread.mHeight = getHeight();
try {
mThread.start();
} catch(IllegalThreadStateException e).......
