Recreate Socket When Application Gets Focus?

Jan 8, 2014

basically, I'm using Async for my socket, the idea is the applications runs, i press buttons, it sends commands to my pc, the program works fine until that is...

it loses focus, at which point everything i've tried does not bring the thread or socket back to life, all i want to do is re-create the socket when the application gets focus.[code]....

So how do i get this Async thread active again once the app loses focus?

Recreate socket when application gets focus?

Android :: Java Socket Not Throwing Exceptions On Dead Socket?

Jun 29, 2010

We have a simple client server architecture between our mobile device and our server both written in Java. An extremely simple ServerSocket and Socket implementation. However one problem is that when the client terminates abruptly (without closing the socket properly) the server does not know that it is disconnected. Furthermore, the server can continue to write to this socket without getting any exceptions. Why? According to documentation Java sockets should throw exceptions if you try to write to a socket that is not reachable on the other end!

Android :: Socket Programming - Java - Many Clients One Socket

Nov 12, 2009

Essentially Im trying to get many many java clients connect to a socket on my ColdFusion server (Using the Socket Gateway). However before i even start to code this, Im a little confused about sockets and their performance. First of all, are sockets meant for many(1000+) clients connecting to one socket (say port 2202) on one server? How is the performance if all there waiting for is basically a ping, or something such that when these clients receive this "ping" they can go get some new data.

Android :: Application Focus To Front Under Special Circumstances?

Nov 1, 2010

I have a need to force my application to the front under special circumstances. I know its against the good coding philosophy but I am working on a turnkey solution where I control the complete device. The app is used internally as a business tool and supplied to the users on a stripped down device. I have searched but cannot see a way but know that it can be done as in the Application Protection app. This can react to the launching of an application and kill it / allow it by entering a password.

Android :: Connecting Android Bluetooth Client Socket To Ubuntu Server Socket

Jul 15, 2010

I am writing an Android app that should exchange data to a server over Bluetooth, with the server side on a PC running Ubuntu, using the bluez library, in C (or C++).

My Android app fails (IOException) when I try to connect to my server socket on the PC.

Here is essentially what I in the java code (in Android, full eclipse project here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2968234/ThinBTClient.zip)

CODE:...........

This throws IOException after a timeout of 10seconds or so.

On the server side (in Ubuntu 8.10), I basically set up a Bluetooth server socket, along the lines described in the example bluez/sdp-register.c

Down below is my C++ program. To compile it do

g++ -I/usr/include/glib-2.0/ -I/usr/lib/glib-2.0/include -o bt_server bt_server.cpp -lbluetooth

I can do the reverse succesfully, i.e. create a server socket in Android and connect from Linux, however this is not what I want to do!

I think either the problem has to do with my config of Ubuntu.

Motorola Droid X :: Auto Focus - Click To Focus

Aug 29, 2010

I loved the camera on the Eris and the Incredible, not only did they have a whole lot more of a crisp high-res detail, the auto-focus absolutely rocked. With my droid x, I can be getting a little artsy and focus on an object with the crosshair but it'll take me 20 tries to get it to lock on, its insane, I know I'm not getting too close to my subject because it will definitely eventually focus on that object if I try over and over and over again. It's not just close ups that I find myself and my buddy with this issue either. macro shooting mode does not help. My buddie's droid X has the same exact behaviors. Eris and incredible just LOCKED ON first try with even very low contrast / detail subjects, on top of that, have a ton better camera GUI when it comes to "click to focus". I know this thing ain't no SLR but, blows me away of how terrible the camera performance is vs. the HTC android based devices. Ihink motorola will fix this? I know this thing ain't no SLR but it just blows me away how the HTC android devices camera performance (except for video) blows the Droid X away.

Android :: Android Bluetooth Crashes Application When Remote Device Closes Socket

Feb 16, 2010

I have connected my Android application to a Windows desktop machine via Bluetooth. The application interacts with the machine. At the end of the interaction the application on the desktop closes the socket that was opened between the Android and the desktop application. Right when socket.close() is called on the Windows machine my Android app pops open a dialog saying that the application has stopped unexpectedly and then it quits. I have a breakpoint on the line in the ConnectedThread (like in the BluetoothChat sample) where I read the InputStream on the Android and that is not hit. I also have a breakpoint in the catch statement for the try surrounding the place where I read the InputStream. That one also does not get hit. So I have no idea how I can catch this error. Is this a bug?

HTC Desire : Can I ReCreate Wifi Hotspot?

Sep 8, 2010

I'm wanting some advice from those who have used their Desires as a hotspot (either on 2.2 natively or with an app). How reliable and how fast is it?

The reason I ask: I'm thinking of getting an ipad (cue the abuse!) and rather than spend he extra on the 3G model I was considering using my Desire as a wifi hotspot.

Previously, I had an iphone 3G jailbroken and used the mywi app to do what I've just explained but with my laptop. It worked really well although not flawlessly.

Also, after some testing with the same sim card, I found it to be a bit slower than either a dongle or by connecting the phone via USB to the laptop (the latter of course won't be an option with the USB-less ipad!)

My suspicion is that I'm probably better off spending the extra as it probably won't be flawless, or as fast, using my phone as a wifi spot.

The other day i was scrolling down reading messages and all of a sudden the bubbles went from about half the screen to stretching all the way across the screen. One on top of another. But they were still in bubble format and different colors for sent and received. They were just longer which i thought made them easier to read. I kind of liked it, but next time i opened it they were back to normal. I'm not sure if this was some kind of glitch, or if some way i was pressing down on the screen made them change. But I have not been able to recreate this.

Android :: Screen Rotation - Rotates That Doesn't Recreate Everything And Re-fetch Data And Process It Again

I was working on implementing a more advanced list view then the standard one they teach you in basic tutorials, and I did find a great tutorial explaining how to create your own Adapter and such not. http://www.softwarepassion.com/android-series-custom-listview-items-a...

I do have a working version of the tutorial and I am currently in the process of changing the list to suit my needs, but there are a few issues I am stumped on. If your run the tutorial code it creates a little progress dialog saying that it is retrieving data. In my application it is going to be fetching data from the internet and storing it in an ArrayList of custom objects. However if I where to rotate the screen the progress dialog pops up again, I have no clue on how to set it up so that when it rotates that it doesn't recreate everything and re-fetch the data and process it again.

Android :: How To Manage Connection To A Socket?

Jun 21, 2010

I would like to know what is the recommendation for socket connection management in Android? In our App we would like to be connected to a TCP/IP server when our app is in the foreground or paused. So, create a connection to a TCP/ IP server when the App starts basically, On Create of the launcher activity. However, we do not want to create a new connection and close connection every time an activity is created, paused, destroyed or orientation changed. So, we save the connection object in the App class and the activities will reuse the same connection.Question is when do I close it? I would like to close the socket when the App is "paused", "stopped" or "destroyed". The problem is these messages are not sent in the App context. How can I figure out if the App is in foreground or not? Even the "Terminated" event for an App is not guaranteed to be delivered. So, in that case how do I know when to disconnect?
