After I do some change in my database, that involves significant change in my views, I would like to redraw, re-execute on Create. How is that possible?
i am fetching XML from the web, parsing it and display it on the screen. The problem which i am getting is that the activity tries to load the data from web each time the activity is called.(Actually, my mobile app requires frequent trips to the server) So i am in search of the below solution: On Re-launch of an activity, the data from web should not be loaded again. (But it should load data from the cache or local database that we have created while calling the web-xml for the first time). creating a class that i can use to transparently make application faster by selectively caching items in memory. And thus, making users very happy and This class can even apply individual refresh times to each cached item.
So, i think i need to store the data in Cache , or in local database or something like that. Is there any way/technique to implement such thing ? so that it need not to load from web every-time on Re-launch of an activity. [Note: I want to do to make client happy by decreasing the loading time and running the application efficiently and optimizing application's loading time]
I want to launch an Activity with a webView as its content from current Activity. This new activity needs to be transparent and webview should be in the center. I looked around the web but only solutions I found were using style xmls. I want to do it using pure code i.e. no xml declarations. if anybody has come across this then please shed some light.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the activity cycle when you use the Home button to exit an application. I have noticed that when you use the Home button to exit an application, you can hold the Home button to move back to that application, but selecting that application from the list of programs or the 'desktop' will open a new instance of it. So I'm wondering is there a way to make it so that if the program is running already, then it will move back to that application like it does from the task menu brought up from holding home button? Or is this something that needs to be handled via the activity methods (such as on Create, on Resume, etc) or in some other clever way?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to put a notification with an intent. My intent is basically action = DEFAULT and category = LAUNCHER in order to bring the activity that was launched into the front. When the app is not shown, there is no problem, the intent works perfectly and launches the last activity seen but when there is already an activity launched, on New Intent is not called (activity is in single eTop mode). I'm wondering how to relaunch the app from an intent to the last activity seen and call on New Intent when the activity is already launched.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk well basically I'm having a problem on my Galaxy S II in which when I exit all apps using the task manager, it kills my lockscreen app, WidgetLocker.
Is there a way that I can have WidgetLocker relaunch after it is killed? Or should I just not bother killing all the apps?
I have my hand cent set an I Phone conversation style. The other day i was scrolling down reading messages and all of a sudden the bubbles went from about half the screen to stretching all the way across the screen. One on top of another. But they were still in bubble format and different colors for sent and received. They were just longer which i thought made them easier to read. I kind of liked it, but next time i opened it they were back to normal. I'm not sure if this was some kind of glitch, or if some way i was pressing down on the screen made them change. But I have not been able to recreate this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just had the odd case that my Android project for some reason would not properly rebuild in Eclipse (v3.5/Galileo). Occasionally that happen and so I did the usual Project => Clean... as I always do in such cases. But this time I now have the odd effect that almost all files show bugs, and looking closer it's that the compiler can't find the R-file (which is indeed missing from the gen subtree). How do I force eclipse to rebuild that file?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm wanting some advice from those who have used their Desires as a hotspot (either on 2.2 natively or with an app). How reliable and how fast is it?
The reason I ask: I'm thinking of getting an ipad (cue the abuse!) and rather than spend he extra on the 3G model I was considering using my Desire as a wifi hotspot.
Previously, I had an iphone 3G jailbroken and used the mywi app to do what I've just explained but with my laptop. It worked really well although not flawlessly.
Also, after some testing with the same sim card, I found it to be a bit slower than either a dongle or by connecting the phone via USB to the laptop (the latter of course won't be an option with the USB-less ipad!)
My suspicion is that I'm probably better off spending the extra as it probably won't be flawless, or as fast, using my phone as a wifi spot.
basically, I'm using Async for my socket, the idea is the applications runs, i press buttons, it sends commands to my pc, the program works fine until that is...
it loses focus, at which point everything i've tried does not bring the thread or socket back to life, all i want to do is re-create the socket when the application gets focus.[code]....
So how do i get this Async thread active again once the app loses focus?
I was working on implementing a more advanced list view then the standard one they teach you in basic tutorials, and I did find a great tutorial explaining how to create your own Adapter and such not. http://www.softwarepassion.com/android-series-custom-listview-items-a...
I do have a working version of the tutorial and I am currently in the process of changing the list to suit my needs, but there are a few issues I am stumped on. If your run the tutorial code it creates a little progress dialog saying that it is retrieving data. In my application it is going to be fetching data from the internet and storing it in an ArrayList of custom objects. However if I where to rotate the screen the progress dialog pops up again, I have no clue on how to set it up so that when it rotates that it doesn't recreate everything and re-fetch the data and process it again.
I am working on Gps based application which runs all the time in background. But in extreme low memory case(or when i open many apps) my app is killed by the android system. I want to relaunch my app when it is killed by android system.I goggle it for this but don't get any solution.Any help would be appreciated.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I got my Dinc back in June I have pretty much used AppBrain exclusively to install apps. If you know AppBrain, you know that your account automatically makes and saves a list of the apps you load. And you can sync this list with your phone to keep both current. It is also like a backup incase something happens to the apps on your phone. Well yesterday I was clicking my mouse faster than I was thinking and I deleted my "Apps on Phone" list from the AppBrain website. So my question is...If I run the "Sync with AppBrain" feature from my phone will it recreate the deleted "Apps on Phone" list on AppBrain or will it delete the apps from my phone

I want to be able to show the Battery Info activity in my app, which shows things such as the exact level, battery health, etc.I'm not sure how I can get it, though a few applications such as Power Manager, Any Cut, etc. show this screen as well. I found in the source code of Settings this intent in a file called testing_settings.xml,But I don't know how to use it. I would guess from the fact that Any Cut has a list of activities, that a list of said activities exists somewhere, and therefore an easy way to access them exists, but I haven't found it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem to start/create Activity in landscape mode. My Activity need to start in landscape mode and be used in landscape mode by users. So far, I used setRequestedOrientation(ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) to force screen orientation of my Activity to landscape mode in onCreate() method.
In addition to this screen mode requirement, my application need to start another background thread in onResume() method, and this thread takes some seconds in order to finish an initialization process, and it is not desirable to to stop/restart this thread's service during the initialization process.
However setRequestedOrientation (ActivityInfo.SCREEN_ORIENTATION_LANDSCAPE) forces my Activity restart in a very little while (means onCreate->onResume->onPause->onStop are executed twice at the first place). As a result, my background thread be stopped/restarted during the initialization process, and this makes me a mess at this moment.
The default behavior from my observation is if current activity force closes Android tries to go to previous activity on stack How can I control this behavior? I want force close to close all activities

I'm writing an application that starts with a loading activity. In the loading activity the app requests html from web and parses the html, then it sends the parsing result to the main activity. The main activity has several tabs, and contents of these tabs are based on the result of parsing. For example, the result of parsing is a list of strings ["apple", "banana", "orange"], and I need to pass this list to main activity, so that the main activity can create three tabs named after three fruits.I would like to know if there is any way to pass a list of strings among activities, BTW, is it the common way of do this?
