Sprint HTC Hero :: Android Stock Notification Bar On Sprint Hero
Nov 30, 2009Does anyone else want the stock (white) nofication bar on the Sprint Hero? If any one has it on their please share how to get it. I think because its a HTC phone it is made with the black bar, but is their anyway to extract the APK from any other android phone if such a file exists and just install it on the Hero, I really prefer the white one.

Dec 18, 2009A while ago I found a tip somewhere on how to get to some additional hidden android browser settings including how to change the user agent string so that the browser would identify itself as a desktop browser or iPhone browser while surfing. This setting is reset between sessions, I didn't use it frequently and eventually forgot how to go about making the change. Recently I had a need to access these hidden browser settings again and it took quite a long and frustrating search effort to finally locate this information which does not seem to be widely publicized. So, in an effort to save anyone else this trouble, I figured I would post the information on how to do this on a couple Android boards that I frequent and also include a few words that might be picked up as search terms for anyone else trying to find this info. The procedure is very simple. I currently have an HTC Sprint Hero running Android 1.5, so I'm not sure what other devices or builds this will work on..

Jul 10, 2010I have used Handcent for months now, but continued to experience lag when typing in landscape mode. But for some wierd reason, I chose to use the stock SMS the other day, and realized the lag was greatly reduced. Now, has anyone else experience this also?by the way, I am using Better Keyboard rather then using the stock keyboard.Besides the landscape typing lag, Handcent was a cool SMS App. I liked it a lot more than ChompSMS.

Nov 21, 2009Does anyone else's stock messaging app lag a lot? It seems like it takes longer to send text than through handcent or chomp. I can't compare it to before the update because I used Handcent but I do like the stock better, just wish it wasnt so sluggish.

Jul 30, 2010I manually rooted my sprint 2.1 stock rom & removed all sprint bloatware. Running very smoothly & seems to be able to keep up with me. Even after calibrating the keyboard, it can keep up to my 75wps (when flipped horizontal)!
Is there anything, any customizations or whatnot, available for us stock users? I work nearly full-time on a retail schedule and have a highly active toddler so I really don't want to mess with flashing stuff because I *rarely* have more than a half hour-45 minutes to myself XP

May 31, 2010Is there a stock 2.1 rom i could flash that also has root. I dont want any of the other stuff the other roms have. Wife has 1.5 stock. I have the latest damged rom. I would like to upgrade hers to latest radio, latest boot rom etc and just 2.1 stock rom with root access.
Or has anyone found a root for 2.1 so i could just install that and root it?

Nov 12, 2009Just out of curiousity, if/when Sprint/HTC fixes the stock messages application, will everyone use it or stay with Handcent/Chomp? What are the advantages of using the stock messages application? I almost immediately downloaded Handcent after reading all the temporary fixes. So I am not aware of the advantages of it.

Apr 8, 2010Running 2.0d for several days now and love it. Very quick and stable when using sense ui, however when I switch to the stock launcher some very strange stuff happens.
The thing takes 3-6 seconds to open from sleep, it just hangs on the background image with no icons or nothing. Then after that finally loads there is an even longer delay when you try to pull up the programs.
After you do this the first time the launcher becomes very quick and normal, that is until you put the phone back to sleep, when you put the phone back to sleep and re-open the whole process repeats.
This does not happen with sense, so is autokiller, killing launcher causing it to completely reload everytime? Is there a way to switch it where it kills sense and lets launcher run?

In my other phones, I've always been able to just view the picture on the screen.It's really annoying, and I would love it if someone can tell me how to fix it. I can see pics I've sent, right in the thread, but not ones that are sent to me.What about chomp sms? Is that any different?

Jun 4, 2010If this is already posted but i couldn't find it. so today i figured out how to get the stock facebook widget to work again because every time i opened it up or tried to post something i got an error number/null (i forgot what it exactly said) so what i did is go to the market and look for the facebook app and install it. its going to ask to uninstall the old one and reinstall it. do that and once it is complete, uninstall the updates because for some reason the widget would not load and voila the stock widget works again if you guys already know this feel free to delete this post. And FYI i too also mainly use the touch.facebook site but sometimes its nice to be able to post something without going to the browser and it just irritated me that after updating to 2.1 a stock widget kept failing but i thought i would share this with all of you

Its not a big enough problem that id pay for "better keyboard" if its different there and I just switched to handcent so I don't have to go to more in the menu to get to the android smiles without typing them out all the way.
Sprint HTC Hero : Stock Apps And Rooting
Dec 30, 2009I know you can remove those bogus stock apps by rooting the hero but I have a slightly different question that I couldn't find in other threads. I am interested in rooting my hero just to remove the bloatware and then unroot the phone back to its original ROM. I am not a huge fan of tinkering with my electronics because it voids warranties, possibly bricks devices, and causes trouble with firmware updates, but it really ticks me off that sprint forces these apps on us and then makes them impossible to uninstall. Imagine getting a new PC and not being able to remove crap like wild tangent and the 20 free trials for programs you don't want or need. I know this isn't news to anyone here, but every time I see that Nascar app I get irritated. Seriously sprint? Nascar? Anyway, my questions are 1.) is root/unroot possible to remove bloat and return to original state 2.) has anyone had success uninstalling pieces of the bloat without rooting? I don't want to uninstall anything integral to the phone like the stock messages app, but Nascar has gots to go!

Jun 30, 2010I just recently got my HTC hero and I have a question about the messaging app. First of all, I am currently using Handcent mainly because if you use the stock app, texts always show up on the lock screen even if you are using the pattern lock. That is annoying, and I don't understand what the point of the pattern lock is if you can just see my texts without having to even unlock my phone...anyway, so I am using handcent and it's fine. I've made sure to remove notifications on the stock app so that I don't get double notifications, but my question is: is there a way to delete the stock app? I mean is the phone going to slow down since it is getting texts from 2 apps, does that make sense? Even though the notifications are disabled for the stock app, the texts still go there and they are also going to handcent...
So basically i would like to know if:
1. i can delete the stock app (i have rooted my phone so...)
2. does it matter that the phone is pulling texts to two different apps
3. is there a way to make my texts not go to my lock screen, if so i would just not use handcent
Finally, on handcent, i will oftentimes get a text twice from people. does anyone have this problem?

Feb 12, 2010With the Droid's 2.1 update, it will be getting multitouch in the browser. So I'm assuming that stock Android browsers will be getting multitouch from 2.1 on forward. I've always been under the impression that the purpose of the Sense browser was to incorporate multitouch that was previously missing in older versions of Android.
With 2.1 coming to our Heros, do you think the new Hero's will just use stock browser? If not, will there be any way to GET the stock browser on the Hero? I honestly think I would like the stock browser better, because I hate the "text autoflow" on the Sense browser. Everytime I zoom, it text-autoflows, and throws me onto some random place on the screen! Plus it makes the browser slower.
