I'm new to android phones and m considering rooting my x. Sorry if this is totally a dumb question, but I was just wondering what happened when froyo comes out? Will i be getting the upgrade? Will the phone stay rooted if the update does download? Will i have to restore the phone in order to get the update?

View 4 Replies View RelatedThis is my first "smartphone" although I have used a corporate Blackberry and I have used a Palm for many years. I've had this phone for about a month now. While the hardware is ok, the software for critical functions (Calendar, Contacts, Notepad, and Music) absolutely sucks!
1. I do not want to use Google/Gmail for my calendar and contacts. I don't know about any of you, but I do not feel comfortable having my confidential contact and calendar information sitting on the internet in Google. The company I work for even has a block on Google contacts & Gmail because it is not secure and fraught with potential for virus. I want a way to sync calander, contacts and notepad directly from my PC to my phone. Unfortunately, this can't be done. I've tried Companion Link. Besides the fact that it cost $39, I can't even get it to work. This type of functionality should be a basic part of a smartphone. Iphones do it. Blackberry's do it. Palm Pre does it. Why not the Droid?
2. Music - I have been trying to figure out a way that music synced to the Droid will play in the proper order. The Droid will only play music in Alphabetical order. I can't find a way to play music in Track # order. I have been on the phone with Motorola for hours. Finally got to Level 2 tech support. They told me that it cannot be done. How stupid is this? Try listening to a Broadway Show album in alphabetical order! Right now I feel if you just want a fancy toy, buy a Droid. If you want a real "smartphone" look somewhere else.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI Installed Smoked Glass V5.0 from V4.5. I ended up doing it twice, and to make a long story short I lost my files in AK Notebook.
Here's my question:
1. Should I backup my current configuration
2. Then "Restore" my backup prior to upgrade
3. Grab my files (hoping they will be there) toss them on my mac
4. Then just "Restore" back to where I am now?
Need those files by tomorrow, any assistance is much appreciated. It's not that it's an emergency without them, but I will have to do some legwork to gather that info again.
Does anybody know how to do a factory reset/restore on the motorola droid x. And this reset process will not delete the phone number right?

What is the best way to backup my old phone and restore it on the replacement one?
I was told my Verizon that it would duplicate automatically. I was skeptical and for sure I have only seen Google stuff (contacts, gmail, etc) sync.
But I am also interested in all my apps and settings...
I did try an app called MyBackup, which let me copy over all the apps alright, but the market didn't realize they were installed (so it won't know about updates) and of course all my settings and prefs are gone. Anyone have any luck?
My phone is stuck on "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." If I hit "force close," the screen just keeps popping back up.I've powered off twice and even pulled the battery. My only other idea is to force into factory reset during reboot.

I did a Backup of all my stuff on the phone, when I'd updated my phone and turned it on it asked me to setup the phone again with the Language, Time & Date etc and now when I try to restore my settings it says "Could Not Restore" when it is almost done.

I have to send my dead phone back once I get the new one, and am concerned about the fact that it's rooted running Froyo. I'd like to restore the nandroid backup I made of stock 2.1. Can somebody give me advice on how to do this with a dead screen? Perhaps from the command line on my computer via USB, or perhaps the key strokes to do it in nandroid so I can replicate it by feel?

I placed my DINC order Monday and was completely content until my coworker just walked in w/ his Droid X this morning. My biggest qualm beforehand was the size, but now that I hold it in my hands it's not so bad.I've never had an Android device but everyone tells me HTC Sense will blow me away. I need you all to convince me that the X will blow me away (if you do I'll swing by after work and cancel the DINC order and grab a Droid X). I'm not worried about specs and stuff, just user interface. What can I expect to get with the X?

You will have the opportunity to switch your order to a Droid X. This is huge news. Inc is slated to be shipped until end of the month first of next month. So whos going to swtich? Two days ago I made a backup of contacts, messages etc.But when I try to install the backup and restore I made two days ago it can't complete it.I have my messages but my favourite contacts, timescape and widgets need to be reinstalled. And contacts which I have deleted a week ago are now reappearing on my phone.I have logged in to my gmail and market and all of my apps are in there so that's not the problem.It's like something is working and something is definately not.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally got around to putting some music files on the phone, sounds great, but the player plays the tracks of an album in alphabetical order, not in normal track order. Does anyone know of a solution to this? Right now all my music files (28 gigs worth) are wma files....could this be the problem? I want to convert all of them to mp3, anyone know of a quick way to do this. I know there are several programs I can use to do this, it just sounds rather time consuming. Hoping someone might have some tip for quick conversion.

So I was wondering about the proper order of installing zips.. For right now I have . . SBF, One click root, Blackglassdeodexer, Blackglassback to stock, Rubix1.86 i think. .. . I was wondering if the order changed anything... Or what all I can now do from here. I'm also having a few random reboots a day where it'll just stop and reboot..

I've never had this problem with iTunes or iPhone, but with Droid X, all of my MP3 albums are ordered in this way. (FYI, the issue is the same if it's an actual MP3 or AAC format.)
