Motorola Droid X :: Ringer - Way To Increase Volume?
Oct 21, 2010
OK...everyone thought that a louder speakerphone/ringer volume fix would be in for Froyo 2.2 when the OTA came out, and that was the only reason I installed it in the first place. But...I'm finding that this same problem is the affliction of any ROM I install. I'm wondering if it's the software or my phone, because many users report high volumes despite my problem. My OG Droid was at least twice as loud as my X. So...my question is, is there any sort of way to increase volume for this phone?

I had an original Droid before getting my Droid X. I am using the exact same custom ringtones I made for my Droid on my Droid X and my Droid X is much, much lower on ringer volume, even at max setting. Due to this, I am missing tons of text messages and a bunch of phone calls when I am in a place that has even slight noise. On my Droid, I could hear my ringer even in the noisiest of places. I can't hardly hear my Droid X in the quiet places. Are there any tips, tricks, or hacks that can increase the overall volume on the X?

When I am on my home screen and try to use the volume rocker to increase or decrease the ringer volume the screen shows ringer volume going up then if i press it again the media volume comes up. It seems to alternate between the two when I am trying to change the volume. Is this normal or is there an option I need to have checked that I have missed? Is it because there is a media program running in the background that I do not know about?

Is there an app for increasing the ringer/alert volume on the HTC Incredible? The original Motorola Droid had plenty of volume, but the phone sucked. Now we have the Incredible that works great, but only if you hear the ringer.Has there been any discussion about an update, because I haven't seen anything? I did see discussion though about the Motorola Droid X.

Is there any way to disable the volume control button as it works on the ringer volume? I use locale, but I bump those buttons often enough and turn the ringer off completely.

Is there any way to lock the ringer volume? I keep my phone on vibrate always. well, I try to, but sometimes I hit the volume button on accident and it would be nice to not have to adjust it. Not only do I not want the phone to ring, but I don't want it to not vibrate (all the way down). Also, I still don't always understand when I can adjust other volumes, like Media Volume. Sometimes I start an app or music and the volume is too loud. It seems like sometimes I can't adjust the volume till after it starts playing.

Is there an app out there that will let me sync the Ringer volume and notification volume with the same button/slider? I prefer to have both at the same level at the same time.

Im looking for an app that will link all of the phones volumes (media/system/etc) to the ringer volume except for alarm volume. I need alarm volume to always be at max so I want it independent from this. I used to have an app that could do this but i forgot what it was and the only one ive been able to find after much searching, was one that links all volumes (alarm volume included). The prog i used before let me choose which volumes to link to ringer volume, rather than making them all linked.

I'm using Timeriffic to turn my ringer and notification volume off at night. However, if I get a call from some of my contacts, I would like my phone to ring. Is there a way to set up my phone so that some contacts will be able to ring my phone, even if the ringer volume is off?

Still debating on which phone to buy. With the droid x the major concern is soft volume (some phones seem softer than others); rumors of over heating and wifi issues.
Is there a known hack to fix the volume issue; or has Motorola ack the issue and have publically indicated a fix is in the works? Next weekend is no-tax weekend (in Ma) so I might try to pick a phone up then...
I'm pretty sure the wifi issue is a firmware problem (shame on moto for using an encrypted boot loader and having bugs like this one); not sure if overheating is limited to a few phones or is a design issue.
Anyways please add comments (negative and positive) relative to alternatives (samsung s and evo are major contenders). With the samsung the major negative is it pauses now and then and also have soft volume (there is a fix for the gps issue); for evo the major negative is +$10 and poor battery life (this phone is nice and loud) also the display is a bit dimmer than the droid x (an issue for outdoor usage).

I noticed that when turning down the volume of the ringer with the volume rocker it doesn't automatically turn down the notification volume as well. Is there a way to set the volume rocker to adjust both notification and ringer volume to the same level? You can test this by going under Settings/Sound and Display/Ringer Volume...and try adjusting the volume with the rocker and it only adjust the Ringer Volume.

On one page of my app there are sounds. Is there a line of code to allow the volume up/down buttons to switch to media volume control for that page of the app only? Or do I need to set it for the entire app, and how do I do that?

My dad somehow changed his volume control, so it only affects the media volume. Any clue on how to change it back? Instead of Ringer Volume, it says Media Volume on the box that pops up when pressing the volume controls.

I have a problem with the ringer going to full volume even though its set to low.
It doesn't always ring at max volume but maybe 1 out of 3 times. Does anyone else have this problem? I have 2.1 second leak installed.
I reset all my data before installing the leak. Anyway to fix this? Aside from this I have no other problems with 2.1.

I recently picked up a used Eris and love it. It's my first Android phone, and it works flawlessly--most of the time. My main issue is the volume settings. None of them actually adjust; my ringer and notifications ring at full volume all the time and my In-call volume is absurdly loud. I have searched this forum and have found many have issues with low volume. My problem is the opposite. I have tried adjusting the volume in the settings screen and while on the phone talking to somebody. Neither works. While adjusting the ringer volume, it just rings at the loudest volume all the time. My firmware version is 2.1.

Just wondering, on 1.5, the Ringer/Alerts volume was locked together so however loud the Ringer volume was, the notification volume would be the same. Since upgrading to 2.1 OTA, they are no longer linked together. Is there any way I can link them back together so they are they same volume without having to individually change each one? It's kind of annoying when I set my Ringer volume to low, and all of the sudden I get a text and it's almost 3 times as loud.

A bizarre problem has developed on my Magic (Vodafone, 1.6) whereby the Ringer volume keeps setting itself to the lowest setting. Five times today I've missed a call, and upon pressing volume up, noticed the Ringer Volume was on zero. I set it back to about 50% and locked the phone again. After it had happened about 3 times, I took to repeatedly checking the phone, and it seemed that the volume was remaining where set, until I missed a call again and this is where it gets weird: Every time a call comes in, the ringer volume sets to zero and I miss the call!
How bizarre is that? I have checked the volume repeatedly to find it was ok, then I miss another call and I find the volume on zero again. I have switched the phone off and on several times without the problem going away. I don't have any apps or widgets installed that alter the ringer volume, the only thing I have which is along these lines is "Smart Vibrator". Oh and it doesn't matter how I set the volume, with the buttons on the side of the phone or through the Settings, the problem still occurs. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Because this is driving me insane and the phone has nearly gone across the room on several occasions!

I want to set my phone to ring only. I don't want any other notifications (text, email, etc.) to make any noise or vibrate. No matter what I do, when I set the Ringer Volume the Notification Volume gets set to the same value.

I attended a seminar and simply turned the volume all the way down (i.e. Menu, Sound & Display, then Ringer Volume). But when I got out of the seminar, and went back to Ringer Volume, it's now grayed out as is Phone ringtone, Phone Vibrate, Notification Sound and all the others below until you get to Emergency Tone and below, where those are back to being bright white. i.e. now when I touch the grayed out Ringer Volume, it does nothing and I'm stuck with vibrate only.

I do have the option on that decreases the volume once I move it, but even before I move it, it's sometimes very hard to hear unless if there is no other noise. Could it be the actual ringtones? I used ringdroid to edit down songs and make a ringtone on the aria.

I am trying to work out if there is an app or a tweak that will join the Media & Ringer Volume together?
So if i adjust one it adjusts the other. (Can even include alarm too if that makes it easier).

Is there any way to stop the volume rocker from changing the ringer volume when at the home screen etc. It's really annoying! It's so easy to press by accident, and I never want to change the ringer volume anyway! (I only ever want it to ring at a particular volume, or not ring at all...in which case I just put it in vibrate mode)

The in call and ringer volume on X10 is way too low, I can hardly hear the other party on a call at a shopping centre or food court. This is very frustrating as making a phone call is the most basic function of a phone but X10 fail in this aspect badly. I am sure a firmware upgrade can increase the volume on X10, its just a matter of whether SE will implement it. Can everyone who had low in-call and ringer volume problem of your X10 report here and hopefully SE will listen to us and give us a fix ASAP. Other than this volume problem, I reckon its a fantastic phone. But SE gotta act NOW!

I am trying to change ringer volume but I am a bit confused. I can reach the volume_ring level by using the code:
String vr = System.getString(this.getContentResolver (),System.VOLUME_RING);
However it says in the explanation "Ringer volume. This is used internally, changing this value will not change the volume. See AudioManager." How can I change Ringer Volume? What should I do?

I am facing a weird behavior these days with my new HTC legend. My ringer volume gets muffled automatically after 5 or 10 sec on getting a call. I have already disabled "quiet ring on pick up" feature. Then also this problem is coming up. I have googled this n come to know that i am not the only one. Some folks have found a workaround that if they choose "WCDMA only" network in network settings then this problem is not there. But I don't have 3G connectivity in my area. What should I do? I have note down the logs just after this problem. It shows some errors:-
W/CallNotifier(144)
CallerInfo query took too long, manually starting ringer
CallerInfo query took too long, falling back to default ringtone
E/jBtlAgHandler(144)
"JBtlAG context is disabled"
E/BT HS/HF(144)
mjBtlAgHandler.sendRing() failed
