Motorola Droid X :: Poor Battery Life?
Jul 14, 2010It seems every review praises the battery life of the X, however, it has been very poor for me so far. Anyone else with this problem?

View 35 RepliesHas anyone else noticed much poorer battery life on the Droid X since updating to 2.2? I find my phone running low on juice much quicker now than it ever was with 2.1, even after rooting and installing SetCPU. I typically leave bluetooth, wifi, and GPS all turned off unless I am specifically using them, so I am not sure what is causing this battery drain.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI'm sure many of the "poor battery life" reports were pre-mature, as people didn't realize their new rechargable has to condition itself, but today I ran into a new situation. This is my second Droid, since replacing original, due to wanting to confirm a faulty antenna, and trying to solve the 3G->1x issue.
Reception at my house is a crap shoot, where moving my phone 6 inches on my desk make speed tests go from 1.5Mb to 300k. So today I'm at mom's, 2 miles away, and we are both equidistant from the VZ store, which is also 2 miles away. However at her house, I pretty much get (0) bars. I left my house with about a 95% charge, pulling it from the plug before I left. I used it maybe 15min to try to resolve her router issue. After 6 days, my battery was good for a at least 18-24hrs of light browsing and mail checking. Well today, It was down to 50% after 3 hours, while flipping back and forth from 3G ->1x. I had (0) bars most of the time and noticed that the battery was warmer than usual. Signal strength was between -95dBM and -110dBm. Now "almost" 5 hours after pulling from the plug, I'm down to 20%. If my hypothesis is correct, I bet the charge will last the night now that the channels have stabilized.
I am currently on a new client where it's constantly on 1X and occasionally switches back to 3G with 0 bars, then back to 1X. I got in to work at 8:30 am and by 5:00 the battery was at 30%. Battery Manager shows Cell Standby as 21% of the battery usage. I had about a 15 minute call this morning (presumably on 1X, I didn't check) and have not used the Internet at all for the rest of the day. This is obviously unacceptable. On my Droid Eris, there was a way to turn off the Mobile Network and use only 2G/1X for calls. I have researched and not found a similar option for the Droid X (Why would Motorola leave this out?) Does anyone know what my options are? I've heard you can go into the #*#*INFO*#*# menu and set it to 2G only, then restart, but that would be a pain to do every morning.

My battery life was bad, but it was OK, but in the past few days my battery life is 10% per 30minutes(Just over 5 hours on a charge).I used to get 8-10 hours on a charge.I noticed last week that while it was charging the status of the battery was "Overheat".I think I somehow cooked the battery?I use TaskKiller and kill 95% of apps automatically, I have bluetooth, wireless,GPS disabled and the screen dimmed.I have not changed or installed any new apps.I have not changed the way I use the phone at all.My battery was dead, 0%, and it charged to 95% in about 45 minutes. Is this even possible? In fact in the past two days I have not gotten the charge above 95% at all.
View 10 Replies View RelatedOk,this is my first android phone, coming from a bb I've notice that the battery life on my EVO sucks,I bought the phone yesterday and put it to charge while playing around with it.I unplugged the phone this morning at 7am,I make a 5min call, watched a 5min video on YouTube,I had Friend Stream running until noon along with Background Data, surged the web for around 2min,listened to 2 songs and a couple of txt messages and the battery on my phone is @ 40% as I'm writting this, notice that background data was turned off around 1pm at that point battery life was @ 60%.is there any way to improve this?I am not running ATk,by the way I love the phone,a lil bit of help will be apreciated.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy battery life has been pretty poor to this point, so I have been going from full charge to completely empty. I was doing that today when my phone shut off because it was out of battery. I then went and plugged it in for about four minutes, then realized I needed something so I unplugged and turned it back on, and now am showing 43% battery! I figured it was a glitch with the stock battery display, so downloaded the BatteryLife widget, which confirms I have 43%. Does this mean I need to complain to AT&T to get a new battery, or a new phone? Update: I rebooted the phone again and was at critically low battery life. I reseated the battery and rebooted again, and now I'm at 5%.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have HTC desire and find my battery life from fully charged to dead is between 4 hours to 6 hours.
Is anybody else having this problem or do you think the battery is faulty ?
I've only had the phone 4 months and find it annoying that i have to turn phone off to save battery. What's point having it as a phone if you have to turn it off..

View 19 Replies View RelatedFor those that suffer from poor battery life or high awake times, I was given a code to enter that will give you all kinds of hidden info about the battery and what programs are running in the background keeping the phone from sleeping. Hit phone, as if you were dialing a number to call, enter *#*#4636#*#*, then talk. You will seee a menu come up that you can change to show you all kinds of hidden info on the phone and battery. Hope this helps some of you that are suffering poor battery performance and high awake times.
View 9 Replies View Relatedso what if each of uses this thread to clearly state the problems that they are having with the X10, please don't go on about firmware updates etc as this isn't an actual problem, we all knew the firmware the phone was running when we bought it, so therefore I feel we have to accept that is down to us as we made the choice to buy the phone. Please be polite and concise and hopefully Jeff or someone from SE will take the time to read the thread and answer in due course, remember though it may take a little time for people to post the problems they are having and also for Jeff and co to find the answers for us.
please pop in and acknoledge the posts every now and then, just so we know our complaints aren't falling on deaf ears. I am hving problems with 1/ In call volume is very low and needs to be fixed asap 2/ Battery Life is very poor, I mainly only send texts at the moment as I cant hear calls and also use the ebook reader for maybe an hour or two a day, yet I have to charge the phone halfway through the day, even though I fully chatge it at night.....
I see some people in the forums bragging about how great their batteries are and i am jealous I took mine of the charger at 7:00 this morning and at 3:00 my phone was already down to 40 percent. My question for the users that also seem to have poor battery life is, once your phone reaches 40% does a reboot give you more battery life? Every time my phone reaches 40% a reboot brings mine back up to 60%. This happens every time so it is not a coincidence or a onetime thing. I am curios if the reporting is off because it is almost 5:00 and i just did a reboot and now I have 60% left. I can live with 40% usage from 7:00 to 5:00 but I can't live with 60% usage from 7:00 to 3:00
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe internal meter says it is due for charge long before its out of juice. Battery Left widget will give accurate voltage levels, but it too is fooled, even after proper calibration.
View 15 Replies View Relateddoes battery status pro drain your battery life?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone else find that their battery does best at like 60%-70% charged and when it gets below 40 it moves a lot quicker? Also I've done 3 full drain and full recharges so far and my battery has improved sloightly each time, do you reccomend I do it again or is that just bad for the battery?
View 4 Replies View RelatedBackground info:
- I'm running the "Battery Left" widget and I have it displaying "estimated percentage left", "system percentage", and "estimated time left until dead".
- I listen to A LOT of Slacker Radio.
My issues:
- I was previously getting about 19+ hours out of a fully charged battery. 2-3 days ago I started having issues with the widget (I think it may have started when I installed an update to the widget) so I recalibrated it to no avail. Then I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Within a few hours it claimed that it was getting accurate readings (when I first installed the widget weeks ago, it took days to get accurate) and now says that I should be getting 9 hours out of a fully charged battery. I know that can't be right so I'll see how the widget adjusts itself over the next few days, but, any thoughts? (I know a lot of you guys use the same widget and know how it works...)
- Also, In the first two hours of my phone being unplugged this morning, it went from 100% to 70%. I did run Slacker for about an hour and a half of that time, but could it really drain the battery that much that quickly? And I noticed that when I close Slacker, if I go into phone settings, applications, running services - there's still a Slacker update thing running in there. Could that be draining the battery too, even if it's only checking for updates?
- I really don't run a lot of stuff on this phone. I keep wifi and gps turned off. I use bluetooth only a few hours each night. Minimal web browsing. Although, my POP email gets checked every 5 mins (but I just changed it to every 10) and I do use gchat and text a decent amount, but I'd say overall, it's "light" use (except for Slacker which could be a huge drain, right?)
Alright I have one simple question. does LV SV or IV have a better battery life? I would think low voltage (LV) would cause your using a lower voltage? Correct me if im wrong
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo i love that my phone is rooted, but i also love a great battery even more. So what i am wondering is, what do you feel is the ROM with the best battery life with what kernel.
View 15 Replies View RelatedThe update had to have helped. Never got battery life like this before. I'm at 14 hours 36 minutes and 60%! I do power off the phone at night when I go to bed and plug it in.
voice calls 40%
display 27%
phone idle 10%
cell standby 9%
browser 6%
android system 4%
android os 2%
backgrounds 2%
I have no task killer. GPS and wifi off. Screen brightness on 4%. Twice today I turned off News Feeds and Skype. But they keep turning back on.
I have had my DX since it came out in July. I work in a Rural area in a Cinderblock and brick building so my reception when I am at work sucks to say the least which I know kills my battery, but I have tweaked it enough that I get about 18 hours of battery life during a normal day. The problem I have noticed is that about once a week my battery goes from 80% to 10% in about 20 minutes and the back of the phone gets warm. If I pull the battery for about 10 min. It works fine for another week or so. Any one else seeing something like this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was all for going with Sprint from ATT to get the Evo, but with all the negative reviews of the battery life, I'm thinking about going the verizon Motorola Droid route. As you can tell the battery issue is a huge deal for me, is the Droid's battery life better than the Evo's?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNot using or enabled: No Wifi, No BT, No GPS, Battery Saver Mode, No Live Wallpaper, No Task Killer Apps, no other battery monitoring apps.Fully, 100% charged at 10AM, left for offsite meeting.Phone shut itself off with Dead battery about 2 PM.Pulled Battery, reinstalled, nothing.Plugged in phone when got back PC (USB) and just have a Solid Green LED, but can't get power back on.Did it DIE already?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWell lately my battery life has been horrid. If I am lucky I get 7-8 hours. That's with little to no internet use and just texting. Like now I'm at 70% and my phones been unplugged for 1 hour and all I have done is text a little and browse Facebook via the app for a little. I'm using BB .4 with the stock kernel. I was gettin better battery life than this before.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just rooted last night and today my battery life has been horrible. It has been mostly idle for the entire day (since 6am, that's when i woke up) and yet it is now under 20% (at 5pm). Anyone have similar issues? Before it would last at least 20 hours...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm going on a hike this weekend and thought it'd be a good time to test out either Google Tracks or CardioTrainer to see elevation gain, time, speed, etc. The hike should last about 4 hours. How will my battery hold up with the GPS on the whole time? Assuming these apps have the GPS constantly draining the battery, which I imagine they do.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried looking for threads on the battery life of the phone after rooting it. So far no luck. Assuming you remove bloat ware and such, shouldn't batt life improve?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've tried BB 0.4 with two different kernels no good and kangerade 5.0.9 think. Still no good. Display is always on lowest setting possible but battery usage for display is well over 50. Only lasting 8-12 hours. First 10% drains in 10 minutes. Wtf!!! Overclock widget hasn't helped. And haven't tried setcpu. No credit card. So does setcpu improve battery life dramatically? Never had a problem with battery life before rooted Froyo. Ne suggestions? I just saw a new SS rom and new Chevy kernel. Anyone have any luck with them yet?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have had this phone for a little over 4 days now and it is by far the best smart phone on battery life that I have ever owned. Yesterday was the best day yet, I pulled the phone off the charger at 7am yesterday and forgot to put it back on the charger before I crashed out last night. This morn I was woken up to its alarm clock, got ready, headed out to work and the last 20% warning ding'd at 6:45 this morning. My use through out the day consisted of a few short phone calls, the wifi was on all day, I played an hours worth of home run derby, I watched a few you tube videos, surfed a little net, and I have all my accounts synced up to the Motorola widgets (facebook, myspace, yahoo, hotmail, google, and twitter). I also have a live wallpaper running, lots of widgets on my home screens, and I am running the automatic battery profile ( default factory setting). Oh and my phone service is not that great at my house. In the end I my battery never hit the "red" and was a little over 24 hours of battery life before I put it on the charger. I have read threads about poor battery performance and I cant imagine why my battery performance is so good, and with such a huge screen. With that amount of use, I would only get about 12 hours of battery life from my Droid 1.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering what settings I can tweak to improve the X's battery life after the 2.2 update. I do not want to root or uninstall bloatware, though (I did that with 2.1 and had a bitch of a time getting the OTA 2.2 to install correctly).
