Motorola Droid X : No Tones On Incoming Calls And Messages / How To Fix
Sep 20, 2010
Had my Droid X about 2.5 weeks and it stopped playing my ring tones and message alerts. It does nothing but vibrate, and it doesn't always do that. I've checked every setting I know to check, and everything is good. Anyone have any suggestions? I converted from Blackberry because of the system freeze ups.

Last week, my Droid X just stopped playing my ring tones and message alert tones. It only vibrates, and it only does that on occasion.Anyone have any suggestions?I've only had this thing about 3 weeks, I'm a Blackberry convert. Please tell me this is not a system thing like the BB freeze ups. That's why I switched, to get away from that mess.

Is there any way to black list a contact from your incoming calls and messages? I got someone who will not leave me alone no matter what I try.. any way to block them entirely from my Droid without getting Verizon involved or having to change my number?

I have disabled the messenger and placed it in the drawer. I downloaded handcent and ringo lite. I would like to have a general ring tone for incoming texts. However, fire department and my wife I would like to assign seperate notification tones. In addition I would like to download ringtones other than the standard ones on the phone. I see them in the phone ringer section but not in messaging. How do I get them in there. I am new to this so I need detailed instruction.

I purchased the HTC Hero from Sprint around a week ago, and it came with a stock 1.5. Had no issues at all, so today decided to try out the leaked 2.1 RUU. Updated without a hassle, but I've been experiencing some issues. This led to me repairing the bootloader and then trying DamageControl 2.08, and now finally fresh 2.0d. All installations went perfectly, nothing to call home about.
It cannot automatically detect my timezone, and it has no clue as to my location for weather nor other features. When I enable the GPS to go onto Maps, it locates me as around 1,000 miles off the west coast of Africa, whereas I'm in Pennsylvania, USA. I can call my phone from another line, but no response on my phone (no calls received, nor missed calls). When voicemails/messages come in, they flood in (10 new messages, etc, that have all stacked up).
I'm using the Wireless Tethering that comes with Fresh 2.0d, and I used PDANet/EasyTether prior to now (as my sole internet is tethering). I'm wondering if this could have at all affected it. Even with tethering disabled for a good hour, still nothing can reach me. If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be greatly appreciated. (Perhaps a radio update?)

I currently have my gmail set to play a tone called "green tunnel" as its notification and my sms to play "life mushroom." Under the main settings tab, the default notification tone is "silent." For some reason when I get a text message, I'm hearing "green tunnel" and "life mushroom" at the same time.

I just got my Droid yesterday and all of the sudden about two hours ago my girlfriend said she tried calling me for the last 40 min and my phone would ring once and go to voicemail. Earlier in the day i called Verizon to cancel my Visual Voicemail and after the rep did that for me he told me to dial *228 and select option 2 to update my roaming features....so I did.
Since then my girlfriend had the issue of her calls going to voicemail and my phone not even ringing. Can *228 cause this issue? Is this a common problem? I called Verizon back and the rep told me to dial *228 and hit option 1 to reprogram my phone. I did it and tried calling my phone from my other line and it is working fine. I can make calls no problem too. I calle my Droid about 15 times and everytime it went through. Is it possible for a specific person's phone to have an issue getting through to another phone?

All the incoming calls I've received since 2.0.1 update look like this: and it slides right/left not up or down like the arrows point. The whole animation graphic is rotated. No forced update, I waited till I got the OTA. Not rooted, no custom unlock or homes.

About once a week I need to do a battery pull on my DROID because both incoming and outgoing calls are silent. I'm not sure if the caller on the other end can hear me or not.In the meantime, I've switched my vocoder options back to the factory default to see if maybe that helps. Really, it's a shot in the dark, but it's a start.

When recieving incoming calls message on screen when call is showing on device screen it shows system message : ["blacklisted incoming number"] {not exact message, but similiar...}. This is happened a couple of times so it is not a fluke. The calls work at first, but after this you cant recieve calls from that number. There is no setting or list to remove or edit the blacklist "feature".

So I have something like 470 people in my Google Contacts under "All Contacts" and only about 60 under "My Contacts." I like it that way, because then my Droid contact list isn't full to the brim with people whose numbers I really don't need at the touch of my fingertips. That being said, however, it would be very cool if somehow the "All Contacts" section of my Google Contacts could be used to identify incoming phone calls.
For instance:
I want my Brother's phone number in My Contacts so I can call him.
I don't want my ex girlfriend's Stacey's number in My Contacts because I don't need to call her.
I still have my ex-girlfiend's contact info under "All Contacts" because there's no reason to delete it outright.
I would, however, like for my Droid's caller ID to tell me that the person calling me is "Stacey" instead of "unknown caller."
Am I asking too much? I know I could just add everyone to "My Contacts" and that would work, I just don't necessarily want 500 people in my Droid phone book. It's unnecessary. Or even apps that do this?

I've seen some posts about larger pictures on incoming calls, but I wouldn't mind having ANY pics.
How do I get pics instead of the Droid robot? The robot is cool, but still....

Has anyone found any good call blockers to prevent unknown callers from junking up your voicemail? I've heard about GBlock and aFirewall but they're not complete solutions. looking for something that shuts down an unwanted caller with NO voicemail option. Even better - an app where you put in the numbers you wish to accept and have anyone else who calls in get rejected instead of having to enter numbers you want to have blocked.

On a number of occasions, I've missed incoming calls that I never heard ring. This has happened even when the ringer volume is turned all the way up (it's much too easy to inadvertently lower the ringer volume, but that's another story). Yeah, I know - I live in New York City, where it's easy to not hear a phone ring, but I've missed calls even when I'm in a totally quiet room. Just now, I was sitting with the phone on the table in front of me, and it started lighting up with an incoming call, but the ringer made no sound. I checked and the ringer was up 3/4 of the way, so it should have been ringing.

I recently updated my eris to 2.1 and I really like it. The main thing that is currently annoying me with it is that when I am on a call, it still vibrates when I receive a text message. I like that it vibrates when I receive texts just not while I'm on the phone. How do I change this 'Phone Only' preference? 1.5 always just had a little beep or sound for the notifier never vibrated?

Does anyone know how I can change something in the settings to remove the +1 in front of all of my incoming numbers?
Example: +1(555)555-5555
When someone leaves me a message and i press callback it calls that number and Verizon wont recognize that +1 extension in front of the area code.

Hi all, I've owned an HTC Eris since January and have been pleased overall until I upgraded to 2.1 a couple months ago. That's where the real issues became more rampant. I've stumped most of the kids at Verizon, have wiped the phone a couple times, and even was given a whole new phone once.
This post isn't intended to be some whiny rant because I really want to see if there are any resolutions aside from getting a different phone. This list is extensive and obviously I wouldn't be posting if I wasn't concerned. Any help/feedback is appreciated. Thank you!!!!!
1. Some incoming calls freeze the phone. It is any one caller, just random. Phone will just ring uncontrollably and the screen just goes black. It will continue doing this until you pull the battery. Sometimes a force close message appears but you can't clear it. No buttons work.
2. If send text, then happen to turn the phone will it's sending, it force closes. At least the text still sends, but it's just lame.
3. Laggy response and/or need to push a button several times to get it to respond. I don't have a screen cover.
4.The default action on some favorites resets. Many times when I select a favorite to call, the phone asks me which default action I want to set. Hello, that's why I chose a default action in the first place!
5. Can't play more than 2 songs in a row on either Pandora or Slacker without phone crashing and reseting to home screen.
6. Bluetooth disconnects often. Sometimes takes a while to re-connect.
7. If I get a text while browsing the internet, it freezes that page and displays a "server cannot connect" error. I can go back to previous page and stay connected to internet, so that' ok. But I cannot navigate back to the original page I was on without getting the same error message. I need to close the bowser, and re-open to get back to that page.

In the source of Android I found programs written in language C ("dsp_core.c" and "dsp_dtmf.c") which are capable of decode DTMF. I've recorded (amr file) with my phone a conversation in which the one I'm calling dials DTMF tones from his cell and I would like to use the program to detect those tones and that my phone automatically calls the number that he dialed. My problem is I don't know how to use those two programs with the amr file I've recorded. If you need the programs because you haven't downloaded Android code source tell me and I'll send you them

I have had my evo for a little over a month now and I love it, only problem is it wont accept any incoming calls anymore. At first it would accept some but now it I don't get any. I updated to froyo today hoping it might fix something but no luck. I took it to sprint a few days ago he updated it and said see if it works now if it doesn't take it to the repair shop and if they cant fix it then they will give you a new one but I don't know how you'll be able to get a new one because we don't have any. I would rather not get a new one because I got the invisible shield put on my phone and I would rather not have to waste money getting a new one/putting it on. Has anyone else heard of evos doing this or know of anything that could make this happen? Everything else works fine on the phone.

Is it possible to set up a number (e.g. Google Voice or something else) and link that number to your mobile #, such that who ever calls you first dials the "proxy" number and the proxy is what directs them to you?
I ask because I have the 10 friends and family thing and I'd like to do a "one to many" by placing my proxy number on the list of numbers (so calls aren't deducted from my plan's minutes) and having certain people dial that number to get to me.
That way, the incoming number would (in theory) be the proxy number and therefore static, so that I could talk to non-Verizon people without the calls eating into my minutes.
I know one question will be: "So why not just list that phone number on your 10 friends and family list?"
Answer: Because I want a dummy proxy number so that, if I ever (i.e. can't anticipate which numbers they'll be) need to make a long call to a non-Verizon #, I can just have them dial that proxy number.
Make sense? Is this possible?
I also heard from a friend once about SIP or PBX virtual hosting to get all my calls onto VoIP through 3G or WiFi. That's something else that sounds like it works (because that person mentioned they were setting it up) and I may try if I can't do what I'm requesting above.
