Motorola Droid X :: Custom Boot (Logo) Animation
Oct 17, 2010
So I decided to hijack the "Red Rage" boot animation and use it as the base of my animation. Mine just has some Georgia Bulldog love to it. Also I have modified my boot logo and no longer have the "M" its now a lot nicer. I will include the bootanimation.zip in case anyone wants this. Just place it in the /data/local/ folder. Do not Unzip it, leave it how it is. If you have another one there just rename it with a .bak extension in case you don't like mine. Its stretched a little vertically, not sure why not too noticeable tough.

Was wondering if there is anyone out there on this forum that might make me a custom boot animation. I suck at photoshop. I have tried to do it but it looks terrible. The one I want should be simple (I think)for a person who knows what they are doing. All I want is the stock boot animation droid word highlighted in neon green like a lot of blue ones I see where it splashes blue with highlights and the red eye turned the same neon green with my name highlighted neon green like the word droid but name will be above the eye. Kind of like this but with my name from sort of beginning to end.

I've found plenty of tutorials on how to get a custom boot animation on my droid. First question, they all say to use the "terminal". Is this just an app? Secondly it asks to copy a file in the systems folder, can i pull this from a nandroid backup? I love the boot animation from smoke themed liq frozen yogurt, just not the ROM itself.

I finished my boot animation and uploaded it to YouTube, so I thought I'd share it again. (Last time I embedded a .gif file, and it wouldn't play on the DROID.)

I am trying to put a custom boot animation on my moto droid 1. I have root I have done it before and I am using froyo. My big problem now is that I tried putting a different one I downloaded on and it worked. So I need someone to tell me whats wrong with the one I made, because I am out of ideas. I have compared size, resolution, ppi, bit depth but for some reason my images are way bigger files. The sequence was created by using virtualdub to clip a section of an animated short, then exporting an image sequence as png.
But I've fed the images through gimp and an image resizer. The frames are only some of them because I went through deleting every other frame a few times to cut down on the total size. The file is too big to attach here so i put it on my web space at:
http://www.freaksed.com/stuff/bootanimation.zip
I am using the patch that lets me put the files in datalocal and be named bootanimation.zip. it works I've tried with other animations like I said.

I have this animation I made but I'm not that knowledgeable with the desc.txt file. My part0 folder is below could someone please write the desc.txt file, zip it and get it working for me please. I'd like it to stretch the width of the screen and the height doesn't matter. I have it currently at 480x240 and like it there. I've tried a few times but I keep getting the dreaded black screen.

On previous phones such as the Droid Eris and Droid 1, users were able to use custom boot animations without being rooted. All you had to do was push the new file to the boot animation location and it would over ride the old one. I really want custom boot animations on my X but am not rooted. Does anyone know a solution to this other than rooting and how to install without being rooted?

Does anyone know a program where I can convert a clip into .png files? I would like to start making my own boot animations, but can't seem to find a program that would allow me to do such a thing.

I made a boot animation. Not great but I am trying. Anyway, I can get it to look right when it is set to the center of the screen (480x427 not full screen) but when I set it to 480x854 (full screen) it gets stretched out. I was told the png files had to be 256x256 so I don't know what I could change so it doesn't look stretched. My animation looks like my avatar that I made and it looks just like it does here before applying the 854 settings. After seeing a lot of other custom boots mine isn't looking so good.

I have a rooted eris running "Eris_Official_0.8.1T2" rom. I have seen threads about how to change the boot logo/animation, but no one knows how to remove the animation entirely. I would like the verbose boot to display on start up if possible. Has anyone done this? I have seen something similar with the android on iphone(at 1:53 in the video)

Recently I flashed to this ROM [URL] .... from a stock ROM. Have done it a few times before and no problems have occurred. It's an MIUI rom and I decided to customize the theme a little. The themes section allows to change most of the detail ie fonts, status bar, home screen, lock screen, icons, boot animation.
And that's where it started, when I changed the boot animation, instead of using the default one. When I did a reboot after the switch, the usual boot logo was up, but then the screen turned pixelated like a CRT monitor/damaged LCD screen with colourful pixels. But then in boot into the new animation all fine, and has been ok since. The device boots fine, but I'm worried about that pixelated screen.

I'm new to the droid world but catching on quickly. i have a droid incredible, rooted and updated radio and running sky raider 2.5.2. i am trying to use a custom boot animation from droid boots. i have tried using adb and it puts the file in data/local but the problem i have is it still runs the one in system/media. i bought the root explorer app and followed another guide to pasting over top of original zip in system/media but then i get a message saying the file being pasted is too large and cannot be completed. i reboot and it hasn't changed still says sky raider. i know its a boot animation but i dunno its something for me to play around with.

I tried installing Tranquility and must have screwed something up because now my phone won't boot past the Motorola Logo. It's been sitting here like this for about 15min and I can't even boot into recovery by holding the power and home buttons. I don't know what else to do now. Idk if my phone is bricked but even if it is don't I need the SBF file to unbrick it and I can't find that file any where. I did a nand backup or whatever before doing any of this so hopefully that can help me. What should I do now?

Just thought I'd show you what I got running on my EVO. I take absolutely no credit for this, just saw a thread somewhere in the incredible forum about a boot animation and did it. Takes no ROOT, just install the SDK and a small amount of knowledge on how to use the ADB tool. Here is a video of it on my EVO.

I pretty much have the custom boot animations figured out... It seems to work whether I put bootanimation.zip in /data/local or /system/media no problem... but the one thing I can't figure out is how to get a sound to play. I've tried every combination I can think of... boot.mp3 in the zip file, android_audio.mp3 in the zip file... tried the zip without the mp3, just placing the mp3 in the same directory as the zip (and also tried both names that way, in both directories stated above). Is there something I'm supposed to add to the desc.txt file? What am I missing? The only info I can find for the Eris is just "put a boot.mp3 in the zip file" which is just not working...

I have a custom boot animation on my phone that I downloaded and it works but I would like to show it down a little bit. It runs through the animation really fast. If it was a little short it would be great. If I go into the boot animation.zip there are two files. One is a file that just has a few numbers in it the other is a bunch of pictures. Does that number file determine the speed it displays those pictures?

I was wondering if there is an easy way to change the boot animation on my EVO as well as the splash screen. I do realize there is a long way to do it without root, but I am operating from a Mac. If there were some rooted apps that do this, please point me to them.

So prior to manually installing the 2.2 update, I had a custom boot animation with sound. The update ran fine, no issues, and I knew I would have to re-install the custom boot animation files. However, I followed the same steps as I did prior to 2.2 (see below), and again, no errors. After reboot, I'm still seeing the Sprint 4G boot screen. Can anyone else confirm? Looks to me like it's been locked down.
From XDA:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
adb push android_audio.mp3 /data/local
adb reboot

compile a ROM based on CM10; what would make that ROM go into a never-ending boot animation on a clean flash (wipe data/cache/dalvik), yet boot up without a problem when dirty flashed over a CM9 variant. One might think that since a dirty flash over CM9 works, what about dirty flashing over a CM10 variant? What if it acts just like performing a clean flash and never gets past the boot animation?
Lets compound this by adding that once a successful boot-up after the dirty CM9 flash has occured; if one goes into recovery and wipes data/cache/dalvik, the ROM goes back into a never-ending boot animation.

I picked up a brand new Droid X, turned it on, got it all setup, and it downloaded my apps that I used to have on my old Droid. Then I rebooted it after all the apps were installed and updated, and now it will not move past the Motorola logo screen.
Searching around the internet I have found others that ran into this issue, but they were always rooting their phones. I also am not able to boot into recovery mode.
I have not rooted it, attempted to root it, or done anything other than as described above.
Is there anything I can do? Or do I have to just head back to Best Buy and demand a replacement unit?

This is to change the motorola logo that you see when you boot your phone to a custom image. This is separate from the boot animation seen afterwards.Tools/files you will need:
1) RSD Lite
2) droid sbf
3) SBFCodec
4) Photoshop (or paint, or whatever drawing program)
5) Hex editor (frhed is free and very easy to use)
NOTE: I do not use sbf-recall because it complains about needing version 1.3, so I use SBFCodec instead.Steps:
1) Run SBFCodec and open up the sbf file. This will extract all the smg files and header files.
2) Using photoshop, create an image that is 480 pixels wide and 182 pixels tall. Each color should be assigned 8 bits (1 byte), or in paint, just make a 24 bit bmp file. Mirror the image, making the left become the right, and the right becoming the left. Save as a bmp file (photoshop method).
3) Using a hex editor, open up your image and erase the first 54 bytes of data. (and possibly the last 2 bytes of data if you used photoshop. the number of bytes remaining should be exactly 262,080) With the remaining data, reverse the bytes. (using frhed, the option is in the edit menu->Reverse bytes)
4) Using a hex editor, open up the CG42.smg file created in step 1 and erase all data except the last 64 bytes of data (these 64 bytes of data should be FF's in the file). Then paste in the remaining data from step 3 to the beginning of the file and save. Your final file should be exactly 262,144 bytes large.
5) Go back to the SBFCodec window and save (this creates the sbf) the sbf file and name it whatever you want. i.e. boot.sbf
6) Using RSD Lite, flash this sbf to your phone. It may take 5-10 minutes for the flashing to complete. (after the 10 minutes, it might say "failed", just click on the show device button once that happens and you'll have succeeded)You now have a stock phone with a custom boot image. Go ahead and root your phone and stuff. Sorry for the difficult instructions, this was the only approach I could think of to edit the boot logo.

I downloaded the bootanimation.zip for the droid 2 and all instructions and tips say:
If your rooted it's as easy as putting it in the /data/local folder!
Well there is a /data folder on my Nexus and it's empty. If I try to make a new folder it says "cannot create new folder" in File Explorer that came with CM6.1. Astro greys out the create folder button. What am I missing? Also I saw that you can ADB push it. WTF does that mean? I know how to do some fastboot stuff, is it the same? Reboot the phone with the USB connected and run commands on my PC?

I followed all the instructions on the other really long thread. I am having one issue though. I installed SDK and the drivers, that all went perfect. The only issue I am having is with the actual bootanimation.zip. I am thoroughly stuck. After I download a bootanimation.zip it shows up in winrar with 4 files (loading, eye, android, and the desc.txt) I know it has to go in tools. I am just not sure how? Do I add each folder or is there a way to add them all? I also know the name has to be bootanimation.zip. I tried a few different ways and pushed it to my Inc. But I cant get it to boot with the animation.
