Motorola Droid X :: Backup And Restore New For 2.2
Sep 24, 2010
So here's a little tip that's part of Froyo (2.2). Backup and Restore. Apparently, if you need to do a factory reset and wipe the phone, by selecting this in your Privacy settings before the reset, your apps and settings will be restored from Google's servers to their previous state without having to do it all manually f. There's more info on the Moto Forum site here. I hope this actually does what it says it does and helps a few folks out.

I Installed Smoked Glass V5.0 from V4.5. I ended up doing it twice, and to make a long story short I lost my files in AK Notebook.
Here's my question:
1. Should I backup my current configuration
2. Then "Restore" my backup prior to upgrade
3. Grab my files (hoping they will be there) toss them on my mac
4. Then just "Restore" back to where I am now?
Need those files by tomorrow, any assistance is much appreciated. It's not that it's an emergency without them, but I will have to do some legwork to gather that info again.

I was switching roms last night and something didn't go through correctly.I restored my nandroid backup and everything is somewhat back to normal.Ti backup force closes on startup although I still have root. I don't really mind having to sbf, but my question deals with game progress. One game i have in mind is angry birds. Is there a way to save my game progress without using Ti backup.and saved the contents of this folder to a folder on the root of my sdcard. Can I simply overwrite these files after an sbf and clean rom install and maintain my progress? Will this general procedure work for anything? If not, what is the difference between this and "restoring" from ti backup?

So, for the second time I am having to replace my Droid.
What is the best way to backup my old phone and restore it on the replacement one?
I was told my Verizon that it would duplicate automatically. I was skeptical and for sure I have only seen Google stuff (contacts, gmail, etc) sync.
But I am also interested in all my apps and settings...
I did try an app called MyBackup, which let me copy over all the apps alright, but the market didn't realize they were installed (so it won't know about updates) and of course all my settings and prefs are gone. Anyone have any luck?

How come there are certain apps that will not allow me to restore even though I have a valid backup for it. For example I have the HTC_IME with a valid backup but when I click in within TB my only option is to delete the backup file, no restore available. There are other apps like that as well.

As the topic states. Is it really worth it for the donation functionality? I've seen conflicting reports on whether restoring stuff from TiBu causes issues or not.
At the moment, the only feature I find would be highly useful is the App freezing since I want to compare ADW and LP without having to have both running at the same time.

I've been rooting my phone for about a month now, and I'm currently running Kangerade 5.0.9 (great job Jrummy) but I have a quick question about Titanium Backup. I have a feeling you will all be hesitant to answer, but Im going to ask anyway. Note I have no intentions of stealing here, Im just curious to see if this is a bug.
If I purchase a paid application from the market, back it up, and then refund the application, would titanium backup be able to restore it?

I am trying to batch restore all of my apps and it gets to about 4% and the phone restarts. I can not figure out why it is doing this. I have used it many many times before and never had had this problem. Though I know it did start when I loaded up CM6 and it also did the same thing. I am now back too BB .04 and it is doing the same thing. I assume it is some corrupted file somewhere?

Is there an app that will backup and restore your desktop widgets to there original position. I know you can backup/restore your icons with Launcher Pro, Titanium, etc... but they do not restore working widgets. Is the only way to do this through a complete system restore like nandroid?
I would like to be able to restore my desktop with widgets after something like a factory reset or custom ROM install. Is it possible to restore just the desktop/widgets from a nandroid backup? What data would I restore to accomplish that?

What do I need to restore to put my Email account (exchange account) back on my phone via TiBu? Always just re-entered my account info, but wanted to try restoring it the last time I wiped, and could not get it to work. I restored "Accounts" and "Account and Sync Settings 2.2" and all my Gmail accounts are present, but when I launch the Email app or look at Settings>Accounts my Exchange Email account has not been restored. (I also restored Email 2.2 (only option was Data restore). This was going from one CM nightly to another, so I'm restoring data from two ROM s that are virtually the same. Any advice appreciated - I can add the Exchange Email account back manually, but wondered why I can't restore it. What am I missing?

Will titanium backup restore the market links with the apps so that I can still receive market updates?
I want to change ROMS without having to make a list of my current apps and reinstall each one. But I still want the ability to restore and get updates for all the apps I have.
And one other question, when I backup my apps, and then do a nandroid restore I assume Titanium backup will need to be reinstalled. Once I do this will I still be able to restore the apps from the SD card?

I have wiped data and restored my apps twice with Titanium so far. It all works well, but two minor problems. First, every time I do it all of my previous call logs, and all of my previous handcent text messages also get reset. Is there a way I can restore all of these as well?
Also is there a way I can restore my non-gmail email account so I do not have to go through the whole set up of putting in the incoming and outgoing settings all over again. It isn't a huge deal, but it does get annoying redoing the path, the port and the security every single time.
I might just not be doing the correct restore as I only do the batch restore missing apps with data and not all apps with data, but I do not know for sure.

So my Droid's screen recently stopped working and I'm getting an exchange with Verizon. I have to send my dead phone back once I get the new one, and am concerned about the fact that it's rooted running Froyo. I'd like to restore the nandroid backup I made of stock 2.1. Can somebody give me advice on how to do this with a dead screen? Perhaps from the command line on my computer via USB, or perhaps the key strokes to do it in nandroid so I can replicate it by feel?

Ok i have not been able to find any answers what so ever regarding the people that can not find the backup/restore option after entering the recovery mode. I have recently rooted using the new z4root application. I get a skull and crossbones supper user app, and was wondering if that means its different than the one with the ninja icon that everyone else gets.
Anyways, When i go to make a nandroid back up, i follow the steps to the letter, but when i get to the recovery menu, my options stop after the wipe baseband data option. there is absolutely nothing else there that says anything about backup/restore option everyone seems to be screaming about. Its not there!
Now please can someone figure out a solution to this problem?
My recovery looks like as follows: Android system recovery <3e>
Use d-pad to highlight: center to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe baseband data

I recently updated my Mini Pro to Android 2.1, I followed the steps on the sonyericssonsupport YouTube video. I did a Backup of all my stuff on the phone, when I'd updated my phone and turned it on it asked me to setup the phone again with the Language, Time & Date etc and now when I try to restore my settings it says "Could Not Restore" when it is almost done.

When i try to update through the marketplace it says installation error, package file was not signed correctly.

I have 73 visual voicemails on my Evo right now. If I backup the stock voicemail program with Titanium Backup will I be able to restore them all after wiping all data and/or installing a different ROM (as well as Sprint VVM)? If not, is there another way to backup the downloaded voicemails on the phone, i.e. not emailing them to myself?

I live in Denmark I have gotten the 2.1 update a few days ago.The SE startscreen does not work anymore (I am using ADW.launcher anyways but I am thinking about reinstalling the update again to get everything to work as intended.I have notised that the new backup and restore program contains a menu item during backup called Programs from market. I tried to do a backup but that menu item didnt seem to progress from 0 to 100% like the others (Sms phonebook and so on) so I am unsure if the backup file actully contains info on Programs I installed (from market) or not.Problem is that I am getting sick of first remembering all the apps I have downloaded and then downloading them all again. It takes hours and would be so much easier if phone either makes a backup of all programs/apps or at least keept a list of what was installed. Its is not possible to find the programs via market/download list (or at least has not been possible for the last 2 updates for the phone)

I think I know the answer to this, but want to check as I'm new to rooting. Bear with me. So I have a nandroid backup of the Sense ROM I was using up until recently. I've wiped and installed a Cyanogen ROM to check out Android without Sense - can I then just restore the old back over the Cyanogen ROM and get back t how I was, or do I need to re-flash the other sense-based ROM I was using first? Second question - if I want to move between different ROMs without losing my contacts, SMS etc, should I just flash it without doing the wipe first? What if I have to wipe - then I need some other kind of app-based backup to restore?

Best way(s) to backup and restore your HTC Desire? I am hoping people have better suggestions than my experience..I have just factory rest my HTC Desire to get around the googlemail to gmail switch. This required a factory reset of the device. Now the HTC backs up some settings but as it turns out not much. These are what I notice it misses:any saved scene settings any added wallpaper any apps any email or other account settings I already had the backup feature enabled (home>menu>settings>privicy>backup...) I used ASTRO to backup the apps to the SD.

I tried on my I9001 the subject rom, it is a good work, for me is more fast than other 2.3.6 rom but:
1) I can't restore sms backup (I made it by SMS Backup and Restore)
2) I can't restore call backup (I made it by Call Logs Backup and Restore)
3) I can't restore contacts backup (I made it on a single *.vcf file by the last rom in contacts area)
4) I can't syncronize contacts by google account
5) I can't see all calendar appointment (I can see only two for a day when I have five, six or seven !)
6) Default file manager can't read external_sd but gallery can read external_sd, I don't know why !

Now that I'm fully rooted I'd like to experiment with a few different ROMs. My issue is: I'm a heavy user of Folder Organizer (great product). After I rooted initially, I flashed the Fresh 3.3 ROM after backing up using Titanium, Astro File Mgr, AND MyBackup Pro (I don't mess around). After I was done with the flash, I went to restore with Titanium. It didn't restore all of my apps, and actually not much of my data (for example, it didn't restore SMS for some reason). No worries: I went to my Astro backup, it got a few more of my apps, no data.
Finally, I turned to MyBackup Pro, fortunately it restored my SMS data. To wrap it up, I wound up having to restore a few apps from AppBrain, and I had to reset all the folders in Folder Organizer (a real pain). Is there a can't miss backup/restore process when flashing ROMs with Folder Organizer? I don't mind having to restore a few missed apps, but it takes hours to get the folders back. I'm also paranoid about the missind SMS data, but I think I have that covered.

I downloaded TB and backed up a few apps I plan to un install eventually. Before I did it though, I wanted to make sure I understood how to restore something in case I have problems. So I went to the TB folder on my SD Card and found where the backups were, but they are not saved as .apk files so how do you restore e-install them? I open the TB app and clicked on the backup e store button, but didn't see anything about restoring. All I see is buttons for backup, freeze and un install. Am I missing something obvious?
