Motorola Droid : NexBeast - Need To Setcpu

May 10, 2010

I am using Nexbeast 1.0 and I have installed setcpu and advanced task manager. I hear that it messes up somehow but I haven't noticed any problems. In fact before I installed setcpu my phone kept on restarting due to overheating. Am i messing my phone up in a way I can't detect? Any clarification on this issue would be great.

Motorola Droid :: Themed ROM - NexBeast 0.9 - New Update.zip's

Mar 23, 2010

NexBeast 0.9 Release

I built this ROM because I was having some issues with CyanogenMod 5.0.5 (mainly, no MMS), but I didn't want to give up the look and feel of NexTheme, which I really liked.

Before I begin, I must give credit where it is due (everyone but me, I take no credit. I'm just an enthusiast, not a developer).

Pete - For the excellent, bugless base ROM
Koush - For porting over CyanogenMod 5.0.5 to the Droid
Cyanogen - For building CyanogenMod
manup456 - For the AWESOME NexTheme 2.0
ChevyNo1 - For the overclock kernel
AdamZ - For the overclock kernel
gl0be - Whose Desire theme helped me a lot
haxzamatic - For his port of NexTheme to Koush's CM5
jr33 - For his Metamorph of NexTheme
arctu - For the AMAZING HelixLauncher2

Refer to this thread for NexTheme details (and screenshots!):

Motorola Droid :: Running NexBeast ESE81 OC'd To 1100mhz - Instant Battery Drain

Apr 14, 2010

I'm running NexBeast ESE81 OC'd to 1100mhz (Running idle around 23c). I've had no issues whatsoever and, in fact, have been on this ROM since the day it was released (a record for me). However, this morning my phone was fully charged and sitting on my desk when it suddenly dropped to 5% charge. I panicked, rebooted the phone, and it now says 70% charged. What could have caused this? I searched and found someone had a similar issue but no one seemed to know a fix. My phone is running fine now, but I want to avoid further issues.

Motorola Droid X :: APP - ROOT - Keyboard - Keyboard Manager - Dual Keyboard - Portrait - Landscape Switch

Nov 10, 2010

I tried it and it works so far.

Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.

From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers

Verbage:

Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.

Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.

To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer

The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'

Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion

Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.

The app is still in development.

Motorola Droid :: T9 Keyboard

Nov 21, 2009

I want a good T9 soft keyboard, but am having a hard time finding one. I have BetterKeyboard, but its phonepad keyboard isn't T9. the HTC Touch Keyboard sucks because it doesn't fit the screen correctly. EvenBetter keyboard isn't that great overall. TouchPal is by FAR the best I've used, but version 1.0.0 doesn't have configuration options and landscape doesn't fit screen width. Version 1.1.0 is scaled down to about 3/4 of what it ought to be (portrait and landscape).

Motorola Droid X :: Froyo 2.2 With Droid X / Black Keyboard With Bigger Keys To Swype?

Swype on the Droid X with 2.1 originally had a black keyboard with bigger keys to swype or type on. With Froyo, it's now showing as a white keyboard with smaller keys that looks look the Swype keyboard I had originally had on my Droid 1. Is this the "new" keyboard look for Swype on the Droid X or is there a way to bring back the old look before upgrading to Froyo on the Droid X? The version that is showing on the DX now is 1.64.40.9380.

Motorola Droid :: Handcent T9 Vs Better Keyboard

Jan 21, 2010

So I downloaded Handcent and the handcent keyboard in order to have T9 functionality (I like to type fast with one hand), and found the Handcent T9 keyboard to be pure crap.

First, it doesn't even have basic words in it, but mainly the letters only show and the numbers don't, so have to do a seperate thing just to put numbers in. Since it was free I got what I paid for.

So I search the market and found Better Keyboard and then had to also buy its T9 app, called EvenBetter Keyboard and this is much better. Is it worth it to buy to apps (2.99+3.99) just for T9 when there was a half-ass working one in Handcent for free? I don't know, but I am happy with it.

Was wondering if other people used T9 on Handcent and/or EvenBetter keyboard and what are your thoughts.

Please dont let this thread become a QWERTY vs T9 fight. Just asking about T9 and which vendor do you prefer using?

Motorola Droid :: Vibrating Keyboard

Apr 15, 2010

I've recently turned off the vibrating function for my stock keyboard, haptic feedback is still on though. I found it's easier to type when it's off for me, especially when typing long messages. Not that I don't like it, because I do. But when I'm typing something long, it's just really annoying IMO. So I became curious as to what everyone prefers regarding vibrating keys.

Motorola Droid :: 2.0.1 Users Try Out This 2.1 Keyboard?

Dec 8, 2009

When the HTC Hero 2.1 was leaked out I immediatly pulled out the new HTC_IME.apk file (the keyboard). I figure that it will be updated for bigger, high res screens since this is whats going to come on hte Bravo/Passion/Dragon. I was sad to find out that the version number was higher than my droid so it would not install. When I peeked into the Manifest file I could see that it is SDK level 6 where Droid is on SDK level 5. At the time I assumed 6 was 2.1. However, Google has already released the 2.0.1 SDK and it is level 6.So, since I haven't gotten my update to 2.0.1 yet maybe someone else wants to see if the HTC_IME.apk will now install? You can either pull the file down from the web, install it with a file manager like Astro, or push it to the phone with "adb install HTC_IME.apk" if you have the SDK installed.

Motorola Droid :: Does The Keyboard Really Become Usable?

Jan 22, 2010

One thing though I cant get over was the keyboard. Being so off center I found that I could not type as normal becuase my right thumb could not reach to the "yhn" row (middle of the keyboard). I know many have said you get used to it so this is my question. In getting used to it, does that mean you learned to hold the phone differently? Did you type more with your left thumb? In all honesty, I found the keyboard to be bad enough that I questioned weather its worth having it at all. In which case the Nexus might be a better alternative once it comes out on Verizon.

Motorola Droid :: Hard Keyboard

I come from the iPhone world, and I thought having a physical keyboard would be nicer. I don't know if it's because I got used to the iPhone, but so far I'm not thrilled with that keyboard, it's too easy to make mistakes and it's not comfortable.

One thing I noticed is that when you use the soft keyboard, it corrects you automatically and offers you suggestions as you type. How can I get the same features when using the hard physical keyboard?
