I bought an aftermarket car charger on eBay for about $5.says it has that intelligent IC chip that stops charging when the device is full.I assume having an aftermarket car charger is fine, I just wanted to get input from the board. Here is the ebay link to the one I bought.Retractable Retract Car Charger FOR MOTOROLA Droid X - eBay (item 300451296417 end time Aug-06-10 12:05:25 PDT)

Does anyone have any experience using generic, non-Verizon-sold chargers with their X?
I know the original Droid would get fussy with many aftermarket/generic chargers; that's the only reason I ask this.
The chargers Verizon sells are an absolute scam. I buy all my cables from monoprice.com and I was planning on buying 10 3' and 3 6' USB cables from them for charging my X (3' are currently on sale for $0.48 a piece!). I noticed that Monoprice also sells a few generic wall chargers but a few people mentioned issues with the Droid, so I'm a bit leery about ordering them with the intent of using them for the X.
Has Motorola been kind and decided to let us charge our X's off of any USB source of power, or are we locked in to Verizon-sold overpriced nonsense?

I've noticed some odd behavior when using a wall charger for an Amazon Kindle 2. The moment I plug in the charger it's as if there are fifty phantom fingers touching the screen repeatedly. I've heard others report similar behavior with various other non-moto chargers.the Kindle charger charges the Droid just fine, as does my Blackberry charger that I use at work. I just plug them in and immediately turn the screen off. I've been using those for 2 weeks and haven't noticed any ill effects as long as I turn the screen off immediately after plugging in the charger. At first I thought that any standard USB micro charger with the proper voltage should work without any issues. That is obviously not the case, but it leaves me wondering what causes the odd screen behavior. Are some chargers just not shielded properly? Is it EM interference activating the touchscreen? Or is the moto charger just special somehow? Maybe some EE type out there can figure out or explain what the deal is with this.

I'm not sure if this is the problem - but it could be...sorry for the long post, but could REALLY use your help - and this is the best place to find it! Last night I hooked up my Droid to charge on this charger: Amazon.com: Lenmar ACUSB4 AC Travel Adapter for up to 4 USB Powered Devices (Black): Electronics.I went and checked on it later and it was turned off. This was after about 2 hours. The power button wouldn't work and I had to pull the battery to get it to turn on.
So I was thinking that maybe the charger wasn't good enough. Granted, it's not rated all that high but reviews have people charging an iPod, iPhone, Blackberry, and Kindle all at once with it.
It has the 5V output but a lower MA rating (I think 300ma input is what it says). I have another single port charger that only has 500ma (before people come in and say you NEED 800ma or whatever) and it works fine. Anyhow, I tried to replicate the problem by plugging it back into the charger (I wanted to see if it was the charger, or something I did, like set it down too hard...as I have the business card under the battery trick for the back case, thought maybe I dislodged it and was covering the leads or something), and after 8.5 hours, no problems. Fully charged, it was on this morning when I woke.I would REALLY prefer to have a multiple USB charger (even if it costs 50 bucks or more) because I travel a TON and have a bunch of USB devices (6+) that need charged.

This has been an issue that's been bugging me the last few days now. The stock wall charger that came with my Droid X is the 5PN5504A, which has an output rating of 5.1V, 850mA. My understanding is that the mini-USB interface is an industry standard for power delivery to portable devices, which I take to mean that any charge source should work (wall charger, desktop PC, laptop) as long it has uses an USB interface. So any USB-->miniUSB cable can be used to charge any mini-usb device, regardless of power source, right?
I already have several other mini-usb devices, such as bluetooth headsets, which all came with their own wall chargers. However, I checked these chargers, and they all have different outputs: 5V @ 200mA, 5V @ 150mA, 5V @ 550mA. Because the default Droid X cable was so short, I was tempted to use these other chargers. I plugged in the 5V@150mA charger to my Droid X, and found that the phone does not show it's charging (the lighting bolt isn't there, there's no animation on the battery indicator). So then I switched to the 5V@550mA charger, and it DOES charge....................

I've searched the forums and cant find an answer or reason, but my phone wont charge either through the wall charger or through my computer.I plug it in and it says plug in your charger, and the light wont turn on. My computer says that the phone is unrecognized. This all came about yesterday when I flashed BB V.3.Froyo. I was running chevys 1.2Ghz kernel with every other rom and have had no issues. I tried a recovery, and switching kernels, and even pulling the battery but nothing has seemed to fix the issue.

For all of you having battery issues (lasting only a few hours, etc) I think I've found a fix. Yestarday my phone was dead after only being on for about 6 hours. I got home about 10 hours after it died. I left it plugged in for about 2.5 hours until it said "Charged". *Note* First it said "100%" but took about 40 minutes until it said "Charged". That was about 10 PM last night. I ran some movies on it for 3 hours with Full Brightness on. I went to bed without plugging it in. This morning I did another 2 hours of movies. It said 50%. After rebooting it said 60%. Another 42 minutes of movie watching, reboot, still says 60%. Conclusion: If you completely discharge your phone then let it charge full without touching it during the charging it seems to fix the battery.

Best Buy rep said not to power it all the way off. Of course she also told me to install ATK. So, should you power it off at night? I know they say to power off you computers, etc.

I was using RUBIX 1.0 focused, and I tried to download and install something else, and I guess i failed to do so. My phone keeps showing me the motorola logo. Should I get the new phone, or I can just recover this one? I downloaded Droid X 2.2 Full SBF leaked, and still have the problem. It says battery is low, and I dont think its charging my phone even when I connect my droid to charger. Can I charge my battery not turning on my phone? It turns on itself when connected to its charger.

So when are you charging your Droid x.
#1- Are you waiting until it dies completely and shuts off before you put it on the charger?
#2- Are you putting it on the charger when the warning pops up that your battery is almost dead?
#3- Are you putting it on the charger when ever you get a chance to give it a charge.
How long are you letting it charge for?
#1- Are you letting it charge to 100% with the (check mark) before you remove it?
#2- Are you letting it charge all the way through the night? (so like for 6-8 hours while your sleeping)
#3- Are you pulling it off before 100% and if so do you do that every once in a while or all the time.
This is my first smart phone so I am trying to figure out how everyone else does it. I have had the phone for 2 days now and have already downloaded the new OTA update. So with me being on it pretty hard core I am getting about 15 hours of battery life. I think that is really good. But I let the phone die all the way and shut itself off before I put it on the charger and I pull it off right when it says 100%. Is that bad? Should I not let it die every time and should I let it charge longer even though it says 100%?

My phone recently has stopped charging when plugged into my laptop. I have tried 3 different USB cables so i know that's not the issue. Also when I plug it in the screen lights up so I know there is some sort of connection going on, it just does not charge.

I bought 2 spare BP6X batteris and a Motorola OEM P323 Charger for my Droid. Does anyone know why my Droid says the battery is fully charged, 100% (with cord attached), then if I put it in the charger the red light stays on and it charges for another 30 minutes? The app battery status pro (new) also shows a higher voltage when said battery is re-inserted into the phone.

Well my Droid quit charging, the only time I can get it to charge is when I hold the charger into my phone at a certain angle, same thing I gotta do when I flash sbf with rsd lite onto my Droid. I'm gonna miss this thing. But hopefully, with warranty, I'll have a brand new one in my pocket by this evening. What's funny about it is, I'm planning on getting the Droid x when it comes out. Lol, so I guess I'll have a basically brand new Droid to get rid of when the time comes. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

I have noticed this problem multiple times now with my droid. When I plug my droid in to charge at night, it appears to charge up to 100%, then stops charging and begins to lose its charge. When I wake up it is usually around 60 or 70%. I recently bought the multimedia dock to see if this would help. But with this it actually fully discharges because the clock is up on the screen.

I did search and read the other threads, but has anyone had experience with portable chargers with the Eris?
I am headed to Bonnaroo and I am sure I'll be using the phone a lot so I was looking at the smaller portable chargers that run off of AA batteries. Figuring I'll need a mid day charge so I want a smaller one to throw in my pack.

I finally received my Eris today. So... I rushed home, plugged the phone into the wall, and did the activation. (This was about four hours ago.) My phone has yet to be charged. By far... this has taken way more than any of my other pones. (Then again, this is my first Smart phone.) So... how long does it usually take for the phone to charge?

I picked up my X at 8am this morning. I've been on it all day long, but I'm noticing that my battery won't gain a charge even though it's been connected for a couple of hours. Am I doing something wrong or do I have an actual issue? I tried AC and USB power and pulled the battery and it's still at 50%.
