Motorola Droid :: Overclocking / Settings And ADB Shell
Oct 5, 2010
I have 2.2 installed and rooted. I want to overclock. I have searched the Internet on how but the guides don't make sense to me. I don't know what .img I should use and I don't understand the adb shell.

How do I use adb to perform some automated tasks on my android phone? I need to find commands that I can issue from the command line (ideally, using a .bat file) that will be capable of more than simply opening an application or sending an input keyevent (button press).
For instance, I want to toggle Airplane Mode on or off from the command line. Currently, the best I can do is launch the Wireless & network settings menu and then use input keyevents to click Airplane mode:
CODE:.................
There are quite a few drawbacks to this method, primarily that the screen has to be on and unlocked. Also, the tasks I want to do are much broader than this simple example. Other things I'd like to do if possible:
1.Play an mp3 and set it on repeat. Current solution:
CODE:..................
2.Play a video. (current solution: open MediaGallery, send keyevents, similar to above)
3.Change the volume (current solution: send volume-up button keyevents)
4.Change the display timeout (current solution: open sound & display settings, send keyevents)
As before, these all require the screen to be on and unlocked. The other major drawback to using keyevents is if the UI of the application is changed, the keyevents will no longer perform the correct function. If there is no easier way to do these sort of things, is there at least a way to turn the screen on (using adb) when it is off? Or to have keyevents still work when the screen is off?
I'm not very familiar with java. That said, I've seen code like the following (source: http://yenliangl.blogspot.com/2009/12/toggle-airplane-mode.html) to change a setting on the phone:
Settings.System.putInt(Settings.System.AIRPLANE_MODE_ON, 1 /* 1 or 0 */);
How do I translate something like the above into an adb shell command? Is this possible, or the wrong way to think about it?

Right now I've just got setcpu for overclocking my droid, but I want it to be at 800 when I'm using it and lower then that when I'm not. The settings and stuff inside are a little confusing to me right now is there a way for me to do this?

I am running kangerade and cannot seem to get it running stable using anything above a 1.1Ghz kernel. I see other users on here running the same thing with kernels up to 1.25Ghz.

I am new to rooting. Lurking for months and pulled the trigger today. Need help on overclocking. I installed the ChevyNo1-1.0Ghz-ulowV-7slot-update.zip kernel. Now I installed SetCPU and need help with the settings. Min/Max, Scaling, Set to Boot, profiles? Any suggestions on how to set it up?

I have followed everything stated on the stickies about rooting and such to get my self rooted. I'm running ultimated droid right now with SetCPU and my question to you all is, how do you get it even higher. In the video I followed (the 1 in the sticky), he installs everything and when installing the ROM, has an option to install a 1.25 ghz ROM. Given, he wasn't installing ultimate droid but when I "crank it up," my max is 1 GHz. Is this because of the ROM or am I missing something?

I unplugged my phone from the wall charger at 6:30 am this morning. It is now 1:00pm and my battery is at 20%!!! It says that the display has used 33% and the android system has used 24%. For some reason it says that the calendar has used 14%, and I barely looked at it today. I installed bugless beast 7.5 last night, set the overclock to 800, and charged it up. Today, when my battery dipped to 40%, I went to setCPU and set the speed back down to 550. Still, now it's at 20%.

I am new to rooting, but not new to overclocking... except for when it comes to phones.
I made this thread to find out exactly what I need because I have no idea what is up to date and what isnt, there are so many threads eveywhere with different information. I only rooted last night so I am still quite noobish here.
Question: Does the installation of Cyanogen include everything I need to OC? I have downloaded setCPU 1.5a but that is all. Havent installed it or anything. I'm pretty confused on the whole kernel topic and what needs to be done for me to get my droid up to 800mhz.

Let's discuss board. Will the new JIT Compiler for 2.2 (FroYo) be faster than overclocking? And when we have 2.2 can we over clock?

What have you OC'ers found? Is the extra "oomf" costing you much in battery life? And, can you easily make it through a whole day without recharging?

I have struggled with overclocking performance and battery life. I use my phone for more than Linpack & Quadrant.I have noticed that when I have a higher clock speed of let's say 1.1GHZ and I compensate for battery life by using an on demand setting at 0.4/1.1 my droid runs a little hesitant at times when starting programs. Some times it takes up to 10 seconds for a program to load.If a have a performance setting at 550/800 everything runs much more reliable and the overall speed and battery life is very good. guess what I am saying is that high benchmarks don't always mean good overall performance.

I am wondering if there is actually an appreciable performance boost when overclocking the Droid CPU. Does it really improve performance, or is it more just so we can say "Hey lookee here! I OC'd mah Droid!"? Nothing wrong with the latter if thats the case, I am just wondering.
Specifically I am wondering about framerates in games. I have Angry Birds (for example) on both my Droid and my iPod Touch. It is smooth as silk on the Touch, but the framerate sucks balls on Droid. Wondering if OC'ing will do anything for that.

I recently rooted to froyo and I installed the kernal to overclock between 250 and 12500. I use setcpu and even with it set at 12500, the phone will still act slow sometimes. For example, with a live wallpaper on, if I click to look at my apps, it stutters. If I take the live wallpaper off, its fine.

Do you guy think that the 2.1 update will help smooth out the framerate on the SNESoid or does it require overclocking? Also I tried out a Link to the past just a couple minutes ago and noticed that the layers are all wrong. Like when it was raining, I couldn't see the actual landscape and was just guessing where I was going. Any idea on how to correct the layering issue?

Sorry for a new thread but I was afraid my question would not be seen because of the size and age of the other thread. I was using the DX/D2 overclocking app and decided to download the Droid X/2 overclock so now I have 2 overclocking apps. Should I remove one so they do not conflict?

I've been reading up on rooting/overclocking and the like, and I've made the decision I want to try to overclock. It just seems like it's not running as good as it should be for a phone of its caliber. Killing apps seems to be the only way to improve the speed of the phone, and I think it's unnecessary to have to kill apps every time I do something on my phone. Some people have said that uninstalling app killers and not worrying about running apps has made their phone faster, and I tried that but it was running even more sluggishly than before. So if I overclock to 800-1000 and not kill apps, would I see a noticeable increase in performance? I usually run either PandaHome or just stock Home, and I may install something like BB if I get tired of home replacements, but I don't want to install a ROM at the moment, only if it's necessary.
And I have a few questions before I get started:
I've read a couple threads about rooting/overclocking, and none of them seem to say if it's possible to just get a kernal and overclocking abilities without installing a ROM and wiping the SD card, so is it possible to ONLY get overclocking abilities without installing a custom ROM and wiping the SD card?
