Motorola Droid :: Getting Only One Bar On 3G Signal / Reception Flaky

May 16, 2010

I just got a replacement refurbished droid a couple of days ago. I am wondering why I am getting one bar on 3G signal a lot of times. It seems like the reception/signal is a little flaky. My buddy just bought a brand new droid yesterday and he has the same thing a lot of times with just one 3G bar where I' ve seen other google phones with 3 or 4 bars.

Motorola Droid :: Getting Only One Bar on 3G Signal / Reception Flaky

Motorola Droid :: Poor Reception - Unrooted Droid Had A Strong Signal

Jul 22, 2010

Rooted droid, using Froyo Kangerade V5.0.9.

I was sitting next to my friend who just got a droid and is unrooted. I was explaining how great everything was, but he was skeptical to root as most of us have been.

I wanted to make a phone call so I picked up my droid, but I went between 0 bars to half a bar and had a weak to no signal. I dialed the number, but the call wasn't going through. He, on the other hand had 3-4 bars consistently. I was pretty embarrassed when I had to ask him to use unrooted droid. I even tried *228 but my reception was still poor.

How can you explain this? More importantly how can I get "more bars" and a stronger signal.

HTC Desire :: Poor Signal Reception?

Nov 6, 2010

poor signal reception been fixed yet? I'm interested in buying either a new sim free desire, x10, or a blackberry bold 9700. Leaning more towards the desire, but the only thing holding me back is the poor reception problems people have been experiencing. I'm on orange, and based in the east midlands, UK. Not had bad reception in my area with other phones in the past, so if got the desire and did have problems, it would annoy me to say the least

HTC Incredible :: Poor Reception / Low Signal?

Jul 26, 2010

I work in a location where the phone is without a signal about 35%-40% of the time. Naturally, my battery suffers terribly and I often need to charge it sometime during the work day to ensure it makes it until bedtime. Due to firewall/security issues, my phone is my only way to get to my Gmail. I also spend a lot of time on the move, from meeting to meeting, so it's advantageous to leverage my Exchange sync. Typically, I'm able to get emails right away, as the signal drops in and out frequently as opposed to being completely unavailable for long stretches of time.

I guess what I'm looking for is a way to reduce consumption without reducing connectivity. I'm already shutting off GPS. I'm leaving Wifi on for now, as I've got rules on things like Tasker and Setting Profiles that rely on finding specific access points. What I've really been thinking about is having a Tasker setup that turns the Mobile Data Network on and off periodically (say, 1 minute on and 10 minutes off). Does that sound like a viable option? I've heard folks say turning the data network off can cause sync issues, but I'm hoping that turning it back on periodically will solve/prevent all that. Anyone have experience with something like this? Any other ideas for power savings, especially as it may be relevant to a low-signal environment? I also make sure I'm on auto-brightness and am more aggressive about screen timeouts.

HTC Eris :: Are ROM Differences In Signal Reception?

Jun 28, 2010

I've had this Eris since January and was surprised when I began reading in the Eris forums about various issues, ongoing bugs and problems with signal reception, etc.Mine exhibited nothing other than solid, reliable behavior on 1.5 and again after the OTA came to our devices. After rooting, that same reliability and concrete behavior continues, with one exception: on my now favorite ROM, XTR 2.1.1, the signal quality has dropped to near nothing, even to the point of truly nothing; zero bars and 1g rather than my usual 3g and two or three sometimes 4 bars.Recovering to Senseable 3.1 the signal quality returns to normal.Has anybody else seen any differences from ROM to ROM wrt signal strength?

HTC Droid Eris :: Google Applications Very Flaky

Apr 16, 2010

About 2 days ago all the Google applications on my phone started being very unreliable. The one I use most, Gmail, is constantly restarting. Usually the first time I try to open a message the whole app restarts and then I can open the message, but often it will restart again before I get through the whole thing. There is no error message of any kind, it just restarts. I've had similar, but less frequent, issues with Google Talk and Google Voice that started at the same time. I originally thought it was just that I was out of memory, but I tried killing everything with TaskKiller and it didn't fix anything.

I think the only change I've made to my phone recently is installing Skype and I kind of need it at the moment.

HTC Incredible :: Droid Getting Bad Reception In Good Reception Area?

Oct 11, 2010

I just got the droid incredible a few days ago and have had be reception since where I only get like one or two bars while in town and barely one at my house. I took it to the verizon store in town and they said this county area has the best 3G coverage you can get and can not figure out why I am getting such low bars. They need a roaming update thing twice on my phone but it did nothing. They said I would have to take it into a service station. I was hoping I could find a fix for it on here before doing so since my phone is rooted. also I notice that the antenna is at the bottom of the phone and when holding it there, the reception drops even more.

Motorola Droid X :: Droid X Signal - 87dBm - Low Signal Causing Battery To Drain Faster

Jul 18, 2010

My droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.

On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.

Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?

I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.

yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.

Motorola Droid X :: Poor Phone Reception

Jul 29, 2010

I have really poor reception with my DroidX and I am trying to figure out if it is the phone or verizon. I used to have an iphone on AT&T and while I had low bars I could at least make consistent phone calls. With the DroidX and verizon I have 0 bars and only have service when the wind blows my direction (or so it seems). Any advice on how I could boost my signal? I had verizon 4 years ago and it was great so I am not sure what the problem is.

Motorola Droid :: Got Weird Reception / Service

Feb 9, 2010

My sister just got a brand new Droid about 4 days ago. I noticed when holding both droids next to each other that her Droid always has 1 extra bar of service than mine. I don't understand why?? Like she will have 4 3g bars and i will have just 3. Sometimes if she has 3G but none of the bars are lit, my droid is on 1X. We live in a rural area and 3G coverage is spotty but it works pretty well most of the time. I just don't get why her droid would be getting better reception than mine? My phone does have root installed, but no custom rom or anything. Just a couple mods to the video recording quality and auto hi quality youtube videos. also tried to load the same website on both droids and hers went pretty fast. mine was stuck on 1X.

Motorola Droid :: Speedtests / Reception And Basebands

Sep 5, 2010

I feel like i have a solid grasp on roms and kernels, and have gotten my phone running at the max as far as those things are concerned. at least i am satisfied for today!BUT.. now i'm trying to get a grasp on basebands, and i just don't get it.. i've read every thread i can find in the droid root section on froyo basebands and blah blah.. but it just doesn't seem to make sense to me.i currently have baseband version C_01.43.01P on my droid, which must be the official version since i have yet to flash any other basebands. and i guess from what i have read this is the most up to date baseband (?). i started to do 3g speedtests (with the speedtest.net app from the market) and have been consistently getting 925-950kbps down, and 775-825kbps up. from what i've seen the down speed seems low (maybe?).i guess i just don't have anything to compare these speeds to, and don't know if i should try flashing a different baseband, or if i should be satisfied with what i have.. i get decent reception (usually 2-3 bars) except at home where i only get 1-2 bars. so i dunno.. BUT! any input and/or clarification would be greatly appreciated!!

Motorola Droid :: Poor Cell Reception - 3g Service

Jul 28, 2010

For the past couple weeks my phone has been acting very strange and has been getting pretty poor recpetion. I run BB.4 and P3Droid 1.0ghz and 3e baseband. I have tried .41 & .43 and did not get any better reception. Basically the issue is i get 3g for a while and all of a sudden i get 1x where i should have full 3g. If i shut my phone off and turn back on I then get 3g service back. I ultimately noticed it while in Chicago and i had terrible service when everyone else had great service. In Chi i went through all the basebands with no luck. Yesterday I restored back to rooted 2.1 by Pete and i still had a issue. So what i am looking for is there any settings i should look for that maybe off. I doubt its a common issue and i want to look at everything before calling to get it swapped out for a like new droid.

Motorola Droid :: Missing Texts Due To Poor Reception?

Dec 17, 2009

I live in a rural area and have sporadic reception in my house, and work in a large building with dead spots. When I am in areas without reception and a friend texts me, I will not receive it. When I get reception again a few minutes later, my texts will not go through automatically.

From what I understand, the way SMS messages work they will send immediately, and if they do not go through they will piggyback on a different connection. So Verizon will not try resending them to you until it is good and ready, even if you have had reception since then. In my case today I got 3 texts 80 minutes late.I called Verizon tech support earlier with this problem and after describing to him everything, his only solution was to always leave my droid by a window and never have it near me................

Motorola Droid :: Wifi Causing Reception Problems

Dec 6, 2009

I've noticed poor call quality ever since I've had a wireless router in the house. I wasn't sure if it was just the phones, or if having so many wireless things is interfering with reception. I haven't had this problem with the home phones in the same room.

Outside, and even in a store with poor cell reception in the back, my droid did what my other phones could not. However, at home near all the computers and wireless madness, the call quality periodically goes south, and I occasionally drop to 1x. Are all of these waves bumping into my phone, or could it simply be the pipes?

Motorola Droid :: Quick Battery Drain In Bad Reception Buildings

Feb 17, 2010

So my church is a cell-phone black hole.No 3G and barely 1x.They changed the password on the WiFi recently so until someone leaks it to me, my phone is near useless in the building. This stinks as I spent a considerable amount of time there over probably 4 days a week, so stinks to be me.That said, I've noticed that on days I spent a lot of time at church, my battery life is poor. Last Sunday however, I noticed my Droid/battery was HOT when I left church and by the time I got home, it was down below 20% battery life. Was full when I awoke (media dock) so this all happened in just a few hours, most of which it was unused.I returned that evening for some children's events and it dropped again to 20% in just another 2 hours in the building.

Motorola Droid X :: Poor Reception Area - Killing Battery Life - Disable 3G?

Aug 2, 2010

I am currently on a new client where it's constantly on 1X and occasionally switches back to 3G with 0 bars, then back to 1X. I got in to work at 8:30 am and by 5:00 the battery was at 30%. Battery Manager shows Cell Standby as 21% of the battery usage. I had about a 15 minute call this morning (presumably on 1X, I didn't check) and have not used the Internet at all for the rest of the day. This is obviously unacceptable. On my Droid Eris, there was a way to turn off the Mobile Network and use only 2G/1X for calls. I have researched and not found a similar option for the Droid X (Why would Motorola leave this out?) Does anyone know what my options are? I've heard you can go into the #*#*INFO*#*# menu and set it to 2G only, then restart, but that would be a pain to do every morning.
